Sallie's POV

The crowd swarmed around Jill, their faces painted with concern as Draven stormed toward me.

"Since you love dragging people underwater so much, why don't you stay there permanently," Draven snarled, hatred dripping from every word as his foot connected with my shoulder.

I had barely pulled myself from the pool when his kick sent me tumbling back. Fire shot through my shoulder blade, rendering my arm useless. Pool water rushed into my lungs; I choked and fought for breath.

When I finally broke the surface, Draven loomed over the pool's edge, barking orders at his bodyguard. "Watch her. She tries to climb out, you shove her back down. She doesn't leave that water until she begs for forgiveness."

He wouldn't even spare me a glance.

Draven pivoted, his touch feather-light as he guided Jill's elbow. "Easy, Jill. Nobody's going to touch you. Let's get you warm and dry."
