Chapter 23 - Chapter 23 Delivered Me To Hell

Sallie's POV

Jill's words made everyone turn and stare. I stood there in my cheap jeans, faded T-shirt, and threadbare hoodie.

Nobody expected the former fashion queen to appear looking like this. The shock was written across their faces, though several couldn't hide their satisfied grins at seeing untouchable me finally brought low.

One girl scrunched up her face. "No wonder it stinks in here. Did someone climb out of a trash can?"

Her friend joined in, "Seriously, how does she even put that on? Doesn't she know what soap is?"

A third voice piped up, "Sallie, did you forget how to get dressed while you were away?"

Disgust painted every face around me. Some actually waved their hands in front of their noses like I was toxic waste.

I didn't even blink. My face stayed blank, like their insults were just background noise.

They wanted a breakdown—tears, rage, something—but I gave them stone silence. Eventually, their cruel laughter died out.
