Just as I'd expected, Lionel blurted out without missing a beat, "I regret it. I truly do."

Lionel crumbled into sobs, his voice cracking with remorse. "It's all my fault. I failed him. I failed Andy..." His words melted into uncontrollable weeping.

Like a child who'd just lost his most precious treasure, he collapsed completely, sobbing without restraint and exposing his raw, broken emotions.

But I watched his breakdown with eyes as motionless as dead water. The damage was done, the person was gone. No amount of sincere remorse could undo that. It was all pointless.

Yet someone as sharp as Andy couldn't grasp this reality. Simply because that person was his only brother, the one he'd relied on his entire life.

Whether from crying his soul out or a recent flare-up of his heart condition, Lionel's face appeared ghostly pale.

Lionel looked at me with desperate eyes, his voice shaking. "Did Andy leave any final words for me?"
