Morning light filters through the windows when I stir awake, only to discover that Charles has already left.
A bitter taste fills my mouth as I complete my morning routine in the bathroom. When I step back into the bedroom, my eyes immediately catch sight of a pristine white dress laid carefully across the bed.
Next to the elegant garment sits an unopened phone box.
My pulse quickens as I rush toward the package, tearing it open to reveal the latest smartphone model. I pause for several moments, torn between gratitude and the urge to march straight to Charles and tell him exactly where he can put his expensive gifts. Practicality wins out in the end.
