The moment the door swung open and Charles entered, I stopped my restless pacing. My eyes locked onto his immediately, searching his face for any sign of good news.

He hesitated in the doorway, his gaze meeting mine with that infuriating calmness he always maintained. I shot him an impatient look that clearly conveyed my desperation.

"Did you find anything about Kessler?" The words tumbled out before he could even close the door behind him.

Days had passed since Charles began his search, scouring every corner of our territory and beyond. Kessler's cell phone had last pinged somewhere in the Northern mountains before going completely dark. After that, nothing. No trace, no signal, no clues.

Even our pack members had come up empty. Dalia had been blunt when I pressed her about it - if she could locate him through their bond, she would have already dragged him home by his ear.
