Chapter 36 - Chapter 36 At Least You Are Learning

Sandy's POV

Esther and the other two servants, Rosalie and Jennifer, surrounded me like devoted attendants. They transformed what should have been a simple breakfast into an elaborate production.

Even Caleb, the usually stoic chef, was bending over backwards to impress me. Their sudden shift in behavior left me completely bewildered.

Just an hour earlier, these same people had treated me like an unwelcome intruder. Then something changed after my brief conversation with Esther.

Now they were practically falling over themselves to please me.

Their enthusiasm was overwhelming, but I held my tongue. Seeing them happy brought me an unexpected warmth, and I refused to dampen their spirits with my confusion.

After finishing the meal, I quietly escaped the dining room and headed toward Charles' private office.

According to Esther, that office was his sanctuary. If sleep weren't a biological necessity, he would never leave that room.
