Chapter 14 - Chapter 14: The Pre-Trial

It is an important day today. The trial that began for the crime of fighting a hero, has now become a public issue of morality. Is it right that a man that is both our hero and one of their greatest menaces, Balgor, can just fight anyone he pleases in Fair City? Is it right for the Crimson Wolves to defend themselves as the Heroes' allies attempt to stop them from showing Fair City who Balgor and his friends truly are? And do the Seekers of Knowledge really eat babies and puppies? All this and more is the talk of the town.

The trial to settle this begins unofficially, in a backroom of the courthouse. Here, two different groups of lawmakers led by a Judge each are arguing.

Cato Sordelia, the Judge which declared Jacob's crime evil to begin with. And across from him, the Judge, who was very thankful to Henry for inventing divorce laws. His name is William Jacksonson.

"Judge Sordelia, you are too close to this case. You shouldn't preside over this trial." Judge Jacksonson says seriously.

Judge Sordelia laughs with sarcastic anger, and crosses his arms.

"And what, you think you're any better? Everyone knows you basically love that fool for inventing some laws which are giving us more trouble than anything else ever has. I'm sick of seeing grown men begging for their wives not to leave them." he says angrily.

Judge Jacksonson puts a hand on his hip, and clicks his tongue.

"So let's put an impartial Judge in charge. Like Judge Jude." he says annoyedly.

"For the love of Libra, no! I will see him punished! He and his allies have turned this whole city into a chaotic mess! All these ridiculous new laws, the fighting in the streets, and worst of all, it's all over a man who attacked a hero of this city!" Judge Sordelia rants angrily.

Judge Jacksonson's eyes become filled with suspicion and annoyance. He glares at Judge Sordelia.

"Is this about the fight or the lawyer representing Jacob Deatrix?" he asks seriously.

Judge Sordelia holds his hands up by his sides, and glares back with angry disbelief.

"It's about everything. Don't you worry, that bastard lawyer is being punished as well. You must've heard how hard he tried to ruin the Heroes's reputation. All for the sake of winning this trial. You heard the stories being told?! I've been told that the Town Crier was bribed and intimidated into telling them!" he rants angrily.

Judge Jacksonson crosses his own arms. His eyes are resolute.

"I believe the stories about the Heroes. I believe the stories about the Seekers of Knowledge. And I believe there are reasons to declare those Heroes and the organizations they're a part of." he says seriously. "Evil." he states with absolute certainty.

Judge Sordelia gasps with disbelief, then growls loudly with rage. He tightens his hands into fists, then points an inquisitorial hand at Judge Jacksonson.

"You are a demon of deception in disguise! You support the real villains! Jacob Deatrix is a damn Disciple of that bastard Gilgamesh! He is a murderer! His lawyer is a bastard who stirs up false, disturbing drama for the sake of Deatrix, that bastard! His guild uses their resources to attack the Heroes and their allies! Good people who have proven they are good for Pordrig! The Heroes of Fair City have saved us many times over! The Seekers of Knowledge have helped us advance our magic greatly! And there is no proven connection that Balgor is a fucking Bloody Fist!" he rants furiously.

His eyes become filled with a delusional, self-righteous fury. His voice becomes loud and full of wrathful authority.

"YOU ARE EVIL, WILLIAM JACKSONSON! GUARDS, SEIZE HIM AND EXECUTE HIM!"

There are only four guards in the area. Two in the backroom, and two in the courtroom. When they hear these declarations of evil, they become frozen with confusion. They have no idea which Judge to listen to. One even wonders if they should just capture both the Judges, and make another Judge decide their punishments.

The lawmakers begin arguing loudly for their preferred Judge.

"Judge Jacksonson is a good man! He's speaking logically, while you are selfish and motivated with your petty rage!"

"Jacob Deatrix is the real criminal! If anyone is a thug, it's him! A thug For King Gilgamesh!"

"My friends all hate King Gilgamesh and his disciples! Fuck King Gilgamesh, kill his damn disciple!

"The Heroes of Fair City have deceived us long enough! They are criminals! The Bard is a damn drug dealer for Libra's sake!"

"Take that back! They aren't criminals! Those drugs weren't illegal until Henry Sheeves made it illegal! And the Bard only sold the good shit! He never sold anything shady to me!"

Everyone stops for a moment, trying to figure out who said that last one. It isn't a rule for them, but it is frowned upon to do drugs as a member of the law. However, the fool who said it never spoke up, ,,, Until someone else started talking.

"So we've just had someone admit the Bard sold drugs. I think that means the Heroes of Fair City are evil."

"Fuck you!" Judge Sordelia yells furiously. "For the last damn time, the Heroes of Fair City are good! Henry Sheeves, Jacob Deatrix, Crimson Wolves, and Judge Jacksonson! Are! Evilllllllllllll!"

Judge Jacksonson points with dramatic fury at Judge Sordelia.

"You're the truly despicable one." he declares with certainty.

"Fuck you! Fuck you!" Judge Sordelia yells furiously.

He flips Judge Jacksonson off with both fingers. He starts shoving them forward furiously and rapidly as he keeps yelling with utter rage.

"FUCKYOUFUCKYOUFUCKYOUFUCKYOU! YOU'RE EVIL, YOU'RE EVIL! YOU FUCKING PROBABLY FUCK CHILDREN! AND EAT THEM AND FUCK THEIR PUPPIES!"

"No, that's the Seekers of Knowledge! Bastards like you always pin your crimes on others!" Judge Jacksonson yells with righteous anger.

"FUCK YOU, YOU'RE WRONG! YOU'RE EVIL! FUCK YOUUUUUUUUUUUUUUU!" Judge Sordelia yells with pure wrath.

I just entered the courthouse, and I just hear so much yelling. Someone is just screaming 'Fuck you' repeatedly while everyone else is yelling. I literally have no idea what they're on about. I approach the courthouse secretary, a middle aged woman, sitting behind a wooden desk in the corner of the room.

"Excuse me, Henry Sheeves. I'm here for a trial, representing Jacob Deatrix." I say quickly.

The secretary's eyes widen. She looks around nervously, and whispers to me.

"You know all that yelling is about your trial, right? My advice is to leave the city while you still can." she whispers nervously.

I sigh annoyedly at that. Then shake my head firmly no.

"I have to face this trial at this point." I say with determination.

"But why? Judge Sordelia wants to execute you." she asks nervously.

I stare at her with utter disbelief.

"What? I could be killed? Why?" I ask seriously.

"Because he hates you and Deatrix. He hates everything to do with the trial." Secretary says seriously.

I gulp with fear. I um… am unsure how to handle this.

"Don't think about running. You were already paid for this. I'll make someone pry that wand from your dead hands." August says seriously.

I gulp again at that. I hear Deatrix laugh behind me. I turn to see them both smiling at me, like we're friends and I wasn't just threatened.

"Ah, don't be like that. Don't worry bro. If things really go to shit, I'll make sure you get out alive." Deatrix says happily.

"By any means necessary." August adds happily, with a hint of malice.

I look at them both like they're wolves that could turn on me at any moment. I nod nervously.

"Okay, alright. We'll stay. Guess we go to our courtroom then." I say hesitantly.

I turn, and ask the Secretary where it is. She gives us directions to Courtroom 4. I decide to ignore the obvious foreshadowing that Libra is probably giggling about and-

Ow, she smacked me with her invisible hand again. However, I don't even show an inch of pain. I can't help but smile proudly at that. I am improving at resisting pain. … And now she's pulling and pinching at my face. We walk past some guards on the way to the courtroom, and they give us concerned looks. I decide to assume it's because of who we are and what's going on. And not because there's an invisible finger pulling the right side of my lip as far to the side as they possibly can.

We enter the courtroom. It's more like a church though. I'm somewhat surprised by it, but it does make some sense. She is the Goddess of Laws after all. It's almost entirely split in black and white, but the colors change nicely into gray as they reach the middle. Against the back wall, in the center is a high gray stone seat with a desk that reaches as high as him in front of it. All that sits on the desk is a wooden gavel carved into the desk, and a hammer. The hammer is half black, half white. It is rather simple otherwise.

There is another chair and desk on the left, white side that reaches high up, but a few feet below the Judge's seat. There sits a middle aged woman in a simple white dress with a black cascade collar. Sitting in a thin, black iron stick with a small frame of a cup around it is a glowing blue orb. It has a musical note shining brightly on its surface. I don't hear music playing. But add that to the fact there is something resembling a blue holographic keyboard in front of her, and I'd say the orb is recording everything that can be heard. While she types down every word. She's most likely the Court Reporter.

On the right side is a low, black chair with a small railing in front of it. This must be the witness's stand. Then there's a dark gray, high quality set of seats on a platform with a small wooden fence around it, and an opening on the side. Here is where the jury sits. … I hope. Knowing this place, that could be extra seats for the audience.

Sitting in front of the Judge is a white table with floating leather seats on the left, and a black table with regular black wooden chairs on the right. Then behind that, filling either side of the room are benches colored to be the same as the side they're sitting on. And in the center is a clear walkway for people to reach their proper spots for the actual trial.

I turn to August and whisper to her.

"Hey, just to confirm. The defendant and I sit on the black side, right?" I say nervously.

August nods calmly. I click my tongue annoyed, but head over to the black table and take a seat alongside Deatrix. August takes a seat in the audience area directly behind us.

We don't talk since there's such loud arguing going on. It makes me tense, while it seems to amuse August and Deatrix.

The arguing continues for several minutes, and soon it starts growing louder. And louder. Then it sounds like people are fighting. I hear strange sounds that I assume are magic spells flying around. Then a literal explosion rocks the courthouse. It makes me jump up and start to slowly leave but I hear August click her tongue.

"Stay, Henry. We need you." she says with good humor.

I turn to her, fear plain on my face.

"August, there was an explosion. We should leave immediately." I state nervously.

"Pusssyyyyyyy. Why you being lame, bro? Just suck it up, and get ready for some fights." Deatrix taunts amusedly.

"I'm not being lame, I'm being smart. It's dangerous here." I state with nervous certainty.

August snorts amusedly.

"Trust us. If necessary, we will defend you just as you will legally defend Jacob." she says warmly.

I sigh sadly. I'm gonna die.

Suddenly the door in the back right of the room swings open, and the chaos pours in. I see that judge I helped with divorce get shot in the back with lightning as he tries entering the room. I gasp as he falls to a knee, and shakes a bit.

"You fucking bastards! How dare you do this to Judge Jackson!"

The judge struggles back to his feet, mumbling "It's Jacksonson." As he does, a horde of lawmakers pour into the room, trampling him. Then I hear the Judge that started all this screaming with pure rage.

"GET THAT JUDGE, GET THE FUCKING LAWYER SHEEVES, AND GET DEATRIX! WE WILL BURN THEM ALL FOR BEING EVIL BASTARDS!"

I look with pure fear at August.

"Can we please leave?" I ask with serious fear.

August smiles and shakes her head. Then she stands up, drawing her wand. Jacob stands up as well, and draws two blades. A black katana and a dark blue dagger with a bright orange tip and edge. I hesitantly stand up as well.

"We should help that Judge from being trampled. From what we've heard, he's on our side." August says seriously.

Deatrix nods with a bloodthirsty grin. August turns to him with a disapproving look.

"Please make sure to refrain from killing anyone. I don't need all this to be a waste of time." she says with weary seriousness.

Deatrix sighs and hunches over a bit, completely disappointed.

"Yes ma'am." he says sadly.

Deatrix puts his blades up, then takes his bag off his back. He searches through it for a few seconds, before pulling out a thick log with a handle carved into the bottom of it. It's a nice, smooth yellow handle at least. Then he puts his bag back on.

"Did you carve that?" I ask nervously.

"Yeah, it was a fun distraction." Deatrix says warmly.

"Cool." I say nervously.

August smacks us both on the back of our heads.

"Enough banter, help the judge." she orders firmly.

"Yes ma'am." we say in annoyed unison.

Deatrix squats down, and jumps high into the air. He sails through the air until he's directly over the crowd of people fighting on top of the Judge's trampled body. Then I hear a loud gust of wind, then Deatrix flies down into the crowd at high speeds. His body slams feet first into the shoulders of a lawmaker. This guy just crumples into the ground with a loud thud. A lot of them stop to stare at Deatrix for a moment.

Then Deatrix starts swinging his log club wildly. He's smashing it into the faces of a dozen lawmakers within a few seconds, knocking them out cold. August sighs and shakes her head. Then she cups her mouth with her hands and yells angrily.

"Jacob, you're hitting friendlies! Pay attention to the messages I'm sending you, dammit!"

Then she turns to me with pure annoyance in her eyes.

"Why aren't you fighting yet?" she asks angrily.

"Uh, I, errr, I mean, I'm just-" I stammer nervously.

"Start blasting already." she orders angrily.

I gulp nervously, and draw my wand. I point it at the crowd and charge lightning into it. But I really can't tell who's on my side.

"FUCK ALL THESE EVIL BASTARDS! KILL THEM!" Judge Sordelia yells furiously.

I think I know what I should do. But it's gonna hurt a lot probably. I turn to the door in the back, and start walking.

"August, I'm going around the side to target that Judge. I hope you don't mind." I say seriously.

August snorts amusedly.

"That's fine. We'll handle protecting this Judge. Don't hesitate to yell if it gets to be too much. Jacob will hear you." she says warmly.

I head out the doors, and walk through the hallways that surround the courtroom. I turn the corner and see more of the fight ongoing. Out here, there seems to be some Guards involved along with the lawmakers, but they're on both sides of this. One Guard is even begging to Judge Sordelia. He stands feet away from the Judge, begging with tears in his eyes. While the Judge looks down on him with crossed arms and disgust.

"Sir, this is getting to be too much! Nobody knows what to do! We're just fighting based on nonsense! Please, allow an impartial judge to rule over this trial!"

Judge Sordelia pulls a hand back. It glows with bright orange energy. Then he surges forward at high speeds, and plants a strong smack against the Guard's face. It knocks him on his back, and left a sizzling red handprint on his face.

Then the Judge sees me. He starts to point, and opens his mouth. But I am ready for him. While I watched, I already aimed my wand at the Judge. I unleash my lightning, and it hits him before a word comes out. He shakes profusely in place, before falling to a knee. Steam rising off his body.

But now the others have noticed me. A Guard points at me with pure rage in his eyes.

"That's the lawyer Henry Sheeves! Take his head and put it on a stick!" he yells furiously.

I start to back up, and ready a ball of lightning. It takes a few seconds, during which half the crowd in the hallway starts charging towards me. I feel amused at what's about to happen.

As they get close, I unleash the lightning ball. It floats for a moment, before surging forward at high speeds.

But that damn Guard who noticed me is in the lead. His blade suddenly becomes covered with fire. Then he swings his blade through my lightning ball as it draws close. This makes the spell dissipate into nothing within seconds. The Guard continues charging forward through the dissipating lightning. Then the crowd follows shortly after.

I gasp at this, and start running away. I run down the hallway, trying to leave. But a few lawmakers and a Guard have run around the back to corner me. I stop as soon as I see them, and swing my head around rapidly for an exit. I see only the courtroom I was just in. And being in the same room as my allies is probably my best bet.

I run back into the courtroom to see several dozen lawmakers knocked out. The Judge that likes us is sitting on a bench on the far left side of the room. August is standing near him, firing gray balls of pure mana at the few lawmakers trying to still get to the Judge. And I don't even see Deatrix.

I run to the back of the courtroom, enemies close on my tail. August laughs, and points her wand at those behind me. A large, gray circle filled with glowing runes forms in front of her wand. I reach the back of the room, and start to turn towards the right exit where I assume Deatrix is.

That's when August fires off a bright beam of blue lightning. She sweeps it left to right through the crowd chasing me. I hear their cries of pain, and turn to see almost all of them knocked out. The few still awake start crawling away. I stop running, and pant a bit. I don't even know why I'm tired like this already. I really need to workout more.

August turns to me with a blank face.

"Henry, someone has reported to me through my mind link. Apparently Seekers of Knowledge have opened portals outside the courthouse. They're coming to fight." she says calmly.

My jaw drops with shock. Then I facepalm with both hands, and scream into my palms. I pull my hands away after a few seconds of this. And sigh angrily.

"I am gonna die." I say bitterly.

August snorts amusedly.

"Fight like your life depends on it then. It'd help a lot. Also, don't worry too much. I've ordered Crimson Wolves to come in to help as well." she says warmly.

Now I sigh with relief.

"Thank God we're getting back up." I say.

AGH! I've been hit with lightning from behind! I fall to my hands and knees, shaking from the pain and the electricity coursing through my body. I see August start firing lightning bolts back, while lightning flies right back at her. I turn around to see two Seekers of Knowledge, with Judge Sordelia behind them.

"KILL THEM! YOU HAVE MY BLESSING AS A JUDGE! EXECUTE ALL EVILDOERS, SEEKERS!" Judge Sordelia yells with righteous wrath.

I see the Seekers nod with bloodthirsty smiles beneath their hoods. Then they point their wands at me. I struggle to my feet, charging up lightning in my wand. The Seekers fire a black spike with a crimson aura at me. I hear August gasp. Then she shouts "Wall of Holy Protection!" A bright white wall is created near instantly in front of me, barely stopping the spikes before they hit me.

"Henry, get away from there! That's Curse magic! It might kill you!" August yells urgently.

That lightning is messing with me. I'm shaking and unsteady. But I start crawling backwards. As I do, my friend and savior Deatrix appears behind the Judge. He raises his club, and slams it down on the Judge's head. Judge Sordelia immediately crumples to the ground, unconscious. The Seekers turn around as soon as they hear the thud of wood against skull, but they're not fast enough. Deatrix is a blur as he repeatedly slams his log club into their heads. Then decisive blows slam them into the ground.

August rushes to me, and presses her wand against my chest. It glows a bright red, and I feel my body steady and stop hurting. After a few moments, I stand up, seemingly fully healed. I nod nervously to August.

"Thank you, I needed that." I say appreciatively.

August nods, a mischievous grin on her face.

"It isn't over. We need to claim this chaos for our own benefit." she says seriously.

I sigh with weary sadness.

"I want to run so much, August. Pleasseee just, just, just let me go." I beg desperately.

Ow! Deatrix bonked me on the back of the head with his club. I turn around and glare at him. He stares back at me with a serious, disappointed expression.

"Don't you understand that they want to kill you too?" he says seriously.

I nod with rapid certainty.

"Yes, in fact, that's why I wish to run." I say nervously.

"They'll just hunt you down." August says seriously.

… I sigh sadly. And grit my teeth.

"So do we convince them to put their support behind the Judge over there then?" I ask seriously.

Deatrix seems taken aback by the idea of this concept. While August snorts amusedly.

"Uh, sure. That could work. I was gonna suggest something more unscrupulous, but that is a fine solution." August says sheepishly.

I turn to her with a disturbed look in my eyes. She just laughs at me. This woman was gonna do some shit like mind control people into calming down, wasn't she?

I was totally gonna order some Wolves to come in and kill these people, then get out of the city. Go work in the northern part of Pordrig probably. Or the Draconic Kingdom if necessary. We could use more dragon scales. … Maybe I'll plan Henry's plan to be a distraction for my plan, and if his plan doesn't work, I'll do what I want.

Always good to have a Plan E.

I approach the Judge who's still sitting on the bench, looking a bit rough. His robe has a burnt hole in his shoulder. And I can see what seems like a fresh scar, based on its bright pink color and the steam coming off of it. Seems magical stuff happened there, at any rate.

"Sir, I am Henry Sheeves. I believe I never got your name." I say with polite seriousness.

"Judge Jacksonson. What do you think you're gonna try to do? I heard what she said." Judge Jacksonson says with suspicion.

I sigh with pure annoyance. Starting this as an uphill battle is a pain.

"My goal is to restore order and establish a proper trial. I do not need to manipulate anything. The facts will prove my client to be innocent in this due to it being self-defense." I say seriously.

Judge Jacksonson looks at me, his mind's gears clearly working at high speeds. Literally judging what is essentially my whole argument for Deatrix's innocence.

"You can prove it was self-defense?" He asks seriously.

… I nod, hiding my hesitation. He doesn't seem to notice as he stands up with determination in his eyes.

"Alright, let's go out there. One of you please tie up Judge Sordelia. We will go out, and declare Judge Sordelia's guilt evil deeds today. Henry, you will put down any arguments people have. You're a lawyer, I'm sure you're used to that kind of thing. And you two please defend us in case any violence occurs." Judge Jacksonson says.

August nods and Deatrix smiles, smacking his club into his hand. August walks up to Judge Sordelia, and places a hand on him. Her hand and forearm glows a bright gray, and metal wires begin to grow out of her arm. They crawl down his body, wrapping around him tightly. His arms and legs are pinned together. It takes about a minute altogether. I honestly grow impatient near the end. It's a bit miraculous, I suppose, but I guess my world spoiled me with officers just carrying cuffs around.

Finally we walk outside the courtroom to find the halls littered with unconscious bodies. Though some people have wounds too… I kick someone bloody as I walk past, and hear them groan. I sigh with relief cause they're not dead. Judge Jacksonson turns to me with disgust in his eyes.

"He's nearly dead, why did you do that?" he asks angrily.

I gulp nervously.

"I just wanted to make sure he was alive." I admit nervously.

Deatrix laughs at me. August sighs annoyedly. Judge Jacksonson glares at me for a few moments, then turns back around and continues walking. I follow, and outside I see a very annoying scene.

A crowd of citizens, lawmakers, and guards stand before the Bard Cephellion as he stands on the black plate mail back of Balgor the Fighter who is kneeling on the ground. And off to the side, is that wizard Wilbur, along with an older man with balding black hair slicked back in a fancy half black, half white robe. For some reason I instinctively feel he's their lawyer. The Bard is giving a speech that has transfixed the crowd.

"Ladies and gentleman! This chaos must stop! Control yourselves and realize the true evil is before your eyes! There, behind you, are the bastards who dare declare us as the villains! Especially my great friend Balgor, the man who slew several dozen trolls for this city just last week! He only defended himself, and now this whole continent has gone to hell! And it's because of Jacob Deatrix, and his truly despicable lawyer, Henry Sheeves! I nearly went to jail because of him myself since he illegalized the great pleasures of life that I sold. And don't you all miss things like weed, Third Eye shrooms, and Angel Wings? It's his fault they're illegal! It's his fault divorce exists! It's his fault that our freedoms are being taken from us! And all of this is evil as hell itself!" Cephellion declares passionately.

I roll my eyes and cross my arms. I feel August nudge me with her elbow. I turn to her, slightly confused.

"Argue against him. You need to." August says seriously.

She's right. I face Cephellion, and approach him. As I do, the crowd turns towards me with intense glares and bloodlust clear on their faces. I stop thirty feet away from them all. Cephellion grins with amused disdain at the sight.

"There's the bastard himself. Henry Sheeves. What do you have to say for yourself before you're executed?" Cephellion says smugly.

I roll my eyes. I stand with determination despite the hatred radiating off of everyone. I gather my thoughts, and begin speaking.

"You all may disagree with the new laws, but they are a necessity for a functional society. To start with, your so called "pleasures of life" have definitely destroyed lives. I'm sure many of you have seen people high out of their minds, and hated it. Drugs handicap everyone's ability to function. I'm sure many of you were in miserable marriages, often forced into it, and that is wrong. And the Guards have been given rules on how they treat the public. These rules help you all not be beaten to death for just stealing some bread. You may not like some of these laws, but they will help society. A society can't function with this much anarchy. The only reason you've survived this long is because of slavery." I explain seriously.

I hear a loud scoff, and turn to face the source. I see Cato Tyshira, wearing black robes with the half red, half blue scales that represent Libra on the front. I growl angrily as I realize this bastard has been a Judge of this city the entire time.

"I should've known to expect an argument like that. Judge Jacksonson, I believe you were wanting an impartial judge to preside over this trial? Allow me to fill that role." Cato says amusedly.

Judge Jacksonson sighs with relief, and nods with a sheepish smile.

"Yes please, that would be great." he says gladly.

Cato nods, and turns to Cephellion. He smiles warmly at him.

"If you're their lawyer Sir Dingleberry, you may argue against his previous statement." he says nicely.

"Oh my God, are we really gonna do this out here?" I ask angrily.

Cato chuckles and shakes his head.

"What's wrong with the fresh air Henry? Plus everyone is already here, and it'd be trouble to herd everyone back inside. Plus there's a lot of unconscious people in there that would just make things awkward." he says warmly.

I roll my eyes, cross my arms, and sigh with vain anger.

"Sir Dingleberry, you have the floor." Cato says warmly.

Cephellion smiles, and bows in respect to Cato. Then he straightens up and addresses us all.

"I am not Balgor's lawyer, but I do have some things to say before I let him take over defending Balgor. Sure Sheeves, you've 'improved' society. Now we get arrested for being high. That's something that really ruins families as now the breadwinners of so many families which just wanted to relax after a hard day's work are now in jail. Good. Job. And your laws did nothing to protect them from the Guards' wrath. Just this morning my good friend got beat up because he doesn't believe in Libra. And of course, you created divorce which is the true murderer of so many families on this continent. Now there are children starving on the streets because their single mothers can't provide for them. But sure, you 'improved society'." Cephellion explains with confident disdain.

Cephellion claps sarcastically at me a few times. A citizen spits at me, the spit landing a foot in front of me. Cephellion laughs and steps off Balgor.

"Good sir, you may take over." Cephellion says nicely.

Cepehllion steps back to join his Wizard friend along with Balgor, and their lawyer steps forward. He looks surprisingly calm. I bet he thinks this will be an easy trial somehow.

Cato turns to me, smiling amusedly.

"Do you have any arguments against what he said?" he asks warmly.

I shake my head.

"I'd rather start focusing on the actual trial if you don't mind." I say annoyedly.

Cato smiles and nods.

"That's fair. This is a trial, not a session for discussing the new laws. However, you are representing the defendant, so their lawyer may begin with his opening argument." he says warmly.

I nod, accepting this. Finally, the trial begins.
