Chapter 23 - People Die If They Are Killed

In the name of Asgard, let the dirge of death be sung!

Every weapon was imbued with the Death Divinity awakened by Hela. Whether it was the soldiers of Asgard or the Chitauri wielding weapons, they all trembled and prostrated themselves beneath Hela's deathly might. Even The Other, who had resolved to cling tightly to Beckett's leg, couldn't control his trembling body and collapsed.

This was suppression beyond mere power levels, the very reason Hela earned Odin's trust to lead armies alone, and the key that allowed Hela to push open the door to the universe's ultimate powerhouses.

Every Asgardian knew what the awakening of Divinity meant for an Asgardian. King Odin's single-handed defeat of the Jotunheim giant clan leaders was the best proof of the immense power of Divinity.

"Now, I will give you and your army one last chance, Son of Thanos." Standing upon a platform made of weapons, her lithe figure, clad in a black bodysuit, appeared exceptionally majestic against the dim sky.

The wind lifted her long hair.

Hela gazed down at the grim-faced Beckett, her lips curling into a smile. "Now, kneel."

"Kneel at the feet of us Asgardians."

Death was one of the most terrifying powers in the universe. As the awakened wielder of Death Divinity, Hela's current presence was beyond compare to those so-called gods who only possessed superficial skills.

From childhood, she was personally nurtured by her father, Odin, who placed great expectations on her. From personal strength to battlefield command, Hela grew under Odin's influence and ultimately lived up to expectations, becoming the person Odin most wished to see.

The God of Death from Asgard, Hela's incredibly glorious future was sealed the moment she awakened Death Divinity. No one could stop her from conquering the Nine Realms alongside her father; Jotunheim could not, and neither could Thanos.

"First: You are too confident in your own power." With his right hand behind his back and his left hand raised, pointing a single index finger, Beckett's lips curved into a cold arc.

"Second: Divinity has no effect on me."

Beckett raised his head to look at the figure beneath the dim sky. His bright silver combat boots trod upon the blood-soaked plains as he walked step by step towards the Asgardian soldiers.

"There were once three individuals who called themselves Gods of Light and wanted to purify me, seven who called themselves Gods of Darkness and wanted to kill me, and two who called themselves God of Fire and God of Water and wanted me to wish I were dead. In the end, they all died."

"The Divinity they awakened did not allow them to survive my hands. Do you think you will be the exception?"

Asgardians were not the only race in the universe capable of awakening Divinity. In the three years Beckett had spent on beheading operations, he had encountered and destroyed many civilizations. Some of their guardians had also awakened so-called Divinity, but in the end, they were still defeated beneath Beckett's bright silver combat boots.

He had even seen his adoptive father, Thanos, kill seven wielders of Divinity with a single strike.

"Divinity is, after all, just Divinity. Possessing Divinity merely grants one an additional exploitable power, but it does not make one a supreme god within the rules of the universe."

The smile on Beckett's face grew increasingly unrestrained. The sharp killing intent reached its peak as he closed within a thousand meters of the Asgardian soldiers.

Seething power roared within every cell of Beckett's body. With a flicker of his form, his scarlet tail had already pierced the chests of three Asgardian soldiers!

The heavy armor and shields could not stop Beckett's slaughter. The battle-hardened Asgardian soldiers discovered in terror that their weapons were unable to pierce Beckett's silver armor!

"You don't seem to value your subordinates."

Having finished the first round of slaughter, Beckett stopped and looked up at Hela in the sky. Hela's composure was somewhat unexpected.

He had thought Hela would show at least a little anger, but she had directly ignored it. The weapons imbued with Death Divinity behind her surged towards the Chitauri army behind Beckett like a tidal wave.

"You too," Hela replied noncommittally, idly moving her slender fingers. The weapons imbued with Death Divinity behind her continued to strike the Chitauri army indiscriminately.

The Chitauri army, fearless but forced to submit to the pressure of Death Divinity, instantly suffered precise strikes from the sea of weapons. Hela's objective was clear: she intended to eliminate Beckett's army first.

"Damn crazy woman!"

The Other, wielding his scepter, scrambled for cover amidst the "raining flowers," casting a resentful glance at Hela.

"For the glory of Asgard!"

The remaining Asgardian soldiers, who had fought the garrison forces of the giant clans, exchanged glances, seeing the resolve to die in each other's eyes.

They did not fear death, only dying without purpose.

The name of the tyrannical Thanos had some renown in the universe. They naturally did not wish to see Thanos's army encroach upon territory claimed by Asgard.

They felt it was worth sacrificing their lives to destroy an entire legion of Thanos's forces.

Only a throne forged by blood and fire could help Asgard ascend to the pinnacle of the Nine Realms. Under Odin's speeches, this concept had long been deeply ingrained in the hearts of every Asgardian warrior.

They were willing to pave the path of Asgard's dominance with their own flesh and blood!

The remaining hundred or so soldiers completely abandoned their defense, swinging their blades at the silver-armored Beckett. Their noble beliefs supported them as they exerted their last ounce of strength, not giving up even as their comrades fell before reaching Beckett.

"For Asgard!"

Roaring and bellowing, countless weapons landed on Beckett's silver armor, producing fragile clanging sounds. Scratches appeared on the surface of the armor, personally crafted by Thanos for his beloved son Beckett, but it remained unbreached.

"Overestimating yourselves."

Surging power gathered in Beckett's right hand. His cold eyes swept over the Asgardian soldiers still persistently attacking him. Beckett raised his right hand and then slammed it down onto the ground!

*BOOM!!!!!!*

A torrent of energy erupted, and the shockwave left no one alive within a one-kilometer radius centered on Beckett!

Meanwhile, the Chitauri legion, which Beckett had left unattended, had suffered over half its casualties.

Having annihilated more than half of the Chitauri soldiers single-handedly in just a few minutes, Hela's performance was worthy of her title as the God of Death.

However, "My father once said,"

"People die when they are killed. Now, it's your turn."

An arrogant smile crept onto Beckett's lips, his tail swaying wildly with excitement behind him.

Only the strong could pique Beckett's interest.

Beckett stood tall on the earth, while Hela looked down from beneath the sky.

As their gazes met, sparks were ready to fly!

The plan fell through (><)
