Two weeks ago, Deacon Roth had thought that he knew what his future looked like.
To him every single alternative that awaited him in the time to come had had his Haley-no not his-just Haley by his side. He had gotten so used to her presence that he had been unable to imagine a future without her. But now that was exactly what he was being forced to do, Haley was not dead. She was very much alive and the last time he'd seen her, she had been very well.
She just wanted nothing to do with him anymore. A large part of Deacon wanted to call her, to press her for more information. She had at least done him the decency of giving him a reason why she had decided to leave.
