Chapter 2 - Chapter 2: First Mission

[Host: Kaien Blaze]

[Age: 18]

[Race: Human]

[Magic Power: ★]

[Magic: Take Over Magic · Soul of Anime]

[Character Card: Ulquiorra Cifer...]

Seeing Ulquiorra's character card quietly resting on the system panel, Kaien felt his heart pounding with excitement.

Kaien Blaze had once been an ordinary high school graduate on Earth. But half a month ago, an accident had sent him across worlds—into the world of Fairy Tail—and he had awakened a gacha system.

That's right! The same system from before.

The system allowed him to draw characters from anime Characters who had already died. Once Kaien received them, he could use their powers to fight—

like playing Genshin Impact, really.

However, the system required the host to bind with a guild. Once bound, aside from a fixed monthly draw, he could earn more draws by completing guild missions.

Since he had arrived in the world of Fairy Tail, naturally, he had chosen to bind with the Fairy Tail guild. After all, he knew this guild best—and liked its atmosphere the most.

Moreover, Fairy Tail was the strongest guild in the Kingdom of Fiore. Binding with them meant more missions, and more opportunities.

Kaien stood before the request board, scanning the rows of missions posted there.

The first-floor requests didn't have explicit ranks written on them, but the system panel showed their classifications clearly.

Missions offering rewards over 1,000,000J were marked as A-Rank; completing one granted a draw.

Missions between 500,000J and 1,000,000J were B-Rank; completing two of those also granted a draw.

Missions between 100,000J and 500,000J were C-Rank; completing ten would earn a draw.

Anything below 100,000J wasn't even labeled.

In short, to earn a draw, he needed to complete missions offering at least 100,000J.

Kaien first checked the missions within that range.

Eliminate the Snow Mountain Beast Vulcan, wipe out bandits, hunt forest monsters…

In this world, 100,000J was roughly equivalent to 5,000 yuan. For a mage, that was a decent amount—but for an ordinary person? Even twenty trained soldiers might not be enough to defeat a single Vulcan. From that perspective, the pay suddenly felt meager.

Kaien skimmed over these low-tier missions quickly—not because of the pay, but because completing ten of them would only yield one draw. Each trip would take at least two or three days.

Ten missions meant at least a month of nonstop work—just for a single draw. That meant twelve draws a year. Counting the system's one free monthly draw, that was only twenty-four in total.

'Way too few,' he thought. 'If the guaranteed drop rate is one gold card every hundred draws, I'll be waiting forever before I get another gold one!'

No, he needed harder missions—better rewards. In his previous life, he'd been broke. In this one, he'd be rich.

It didn't take long before Kaien picked out one. He grabbed the request slip and walked toward Mirajane.

"Mirajane, I want to take this job."

Mirajane blinked, surprised that Kaien had chosen one so quickly. "Already? You could take some time to get familiar with the guild first."

Kaien gave a wry smile and shook his head. "No need. I'm already broke. If I don't work soon, I won't have money to eat."

Ever since arriving in this world, life hadn't been easy. Without money for food, he'd been forced to camp outdoors.

On his way to Fairy Tail, he'd even been attacked by bandits. If not for the system's free starter draw, which had given him a blue-tier Chūnin, he would've died before even reaching the guild. He'd looted a bit of cash from the bandits, but that was almost gone now. His hunger for money had never been stronger.

"Hehe!"

Mirajane laughed softly. Most Fairy Tail mages were the same—lazy until their wallets ran dry. Only when they were truly out of money did they remember to work.

"Let me see what kind of job it is… huh?"

Mirajane's expression changed as she read the details. "Wait, this isn't something I can approve. I'll need to ask the Guild Master. Please wait a moment—he'll be back soon."

"Guild Master?"

Kaien hadn't met Makarov when he first arrived.

Just then, the guild doors opened, and an old man in a yellow coat and jester's hat walked in, carrying a scroll.

"Master, you're back!"

Mirajane quickly went to greet him.

Makarov looked at Kaien beside her. "Hmm? A newcomer?"

"Yes. My name's Kaien Blaze. It's an honor to meet you."

Kaien bowed respectfully. The old man stood barely a meter tall, but Kaien knew that inside that small body was power enough to destroy mountains.

Makarov's signature Giant Magic could enlarge him to the size of an island, and his ultimate spell, Fairy Law, could annihilate an entire army from the Alvarez Empire.

And more than that, Makarov cared for every guild member as if they were his own children—something Kaien deeply admired.

Makarov raised a hand cheerfully. "Oh! A pleasure to meet you too!"

Then—"Hup!!"

With a small grunt, Makarov bent his knees and leapt up to the second-floor railing in a single bound.

All eyes in the guild turned toward him.

He lifted a thick stack of papers, his face dark.

"You've been causing trouble again, haven't you? Just look at all these reports the Magic Council sent me!"

"First—Gray."

"Huh?"

A shirtless young man in nothing but boxers looked around blankly. He hadn't thought he'd done anything wrong.

Mirajane smiled sweetly. "Gray, your clothes."

"Ah! Not again!"

Gray scrambled to find something to wear.

"You had no problem catching those bandits," Makarov continued, "but after that, why were you wandering around town naked? And then you ran off wearing someone else's underwear from their balcony!"

Gray's face reddened. "Uh… yeah, that… being naked wasn't great…"

Elfman muttered, "Then don't be naked!"

Makarov sighed and looked at him next. "Elfman, I heard you used violence against your client?"

Elfman scratched his cheek sheepishly. "He said I wasn't a real man…"

"Cana! You went to your client's house for work, but ended up drinking their entire wine cellar. And then you watered it down so they wouldn't notice."

"...Did they notice?" Cana asked weakly.

"Loke! You flirted with Councilor Michello's granddaughter again!"

That one had cost him dearly. Michello, a member of the Magic Council, had scolded him endlessly last time.

"And Natsu!"

"Destroyed roads while slaying monsters, burned down six houses while chasing fugitives, and when guarding a caravan—you burned the cargo! You even managed to torch the victims' property while hunting bandits!"

Listening to Makarov list Natsu's crimes, Kaien was stunned. He knew Natsu caused trouble—but this was ridiculous.

"Alzack, Levy, Krov, Bisca…"

"You lot always get me scolded by the Council!"

Makarov tried to keep his anger in check, but the air still grew heavy.

Then, suddenly, his tone softened. "But… to hell with those Council fools!"

He snapped his fingers, and the stack of papers burst into flames.

"Listen well! All phenomena beyond reason are born from reason itself! Magic is not a miracle—it's the harmony between the energy within us and the energy of nature! Magic is the result of gathering one's will and soul into power!"

"If you care too much about what the higher-ups think, the path of magic will never advance! Don't fear those idiots in the Council—follow your own path!"

"That's what it means to be a mage of Fairy Tail!"

"OOOOOOOOOH!!"

The guild roared in unison.

Though Kaien had only just joined, he couldn't help but be swept up in the emotion. He was one of them now—a member of Fairy Tail.

Soon, the guild returned to its usual lively chaos, with laughter, drinking, and chatter filling the hall.

Mirajane approached Makarov with the request slip. "Master, Kaien wants to take on this mission. I couldn't approve it myself, so could you take a look?"

"Oh? Let me see."

Makarov took the paper.

[Eliminate the Phantom Thief Guild. Reward: 700,000J.]
