Chapter 26 - Chapter 123 Nobody Knows (21)

Samantha didn't consider himself a good person; he was cold-hearted and indifferent. He wouldn't even glance at someone jumping off a building for him. But now, just imagining someone getting hurt made him feel pain himself.

But this person is crazier than anyone else, completely disregarding his own dignity.

When it was almost time, Saman gently pried his hand open, ignoring the Scarlet Witch's obstruction and anger, and put his hand back. The wound had stopped bleeding and had turned somewhat pale. Saman wrapped his wrist with a roll of gauze.

Saman sat down to the side—just out of reach of the irritating little monster.

He began to eat the food he had brought in earlier; it was still warm, soft and delicious bread filled with vegetables, fried eggs, and beef patties.

The Scarlet Witch, having eaten her fill, licked the remaining blood from her lips. She wasn't entirely full; the blood was only about five or six tenths of what she wanted, and it had even whetted her appetite. However, she knew this was already a manageable amount for a human.

While Saman was eating, Ren Yifei examined the handcuffs on his hands, which kept clattering against the bedpost.

Ren Yifei was very unhappy and resentful of being restrained. If it were someone else, he would have wanted to bury them alive in cement.

"Don't be angry, I'm just worried you might suddenly run away. The entire base is searching for you, and it would be troublesome if you were discovered. You understand what I'm saying, right?"

If the information he found is correct, Scarlet Witches can understand humans. Their intelligence is similar to that of humans, and they have lived among humans for over a decade; they could probably not only understand what humans say, but they could also speak.

This is just a pretense to lower the humans' guard; it's a rather cunning little monster.

Saman hoped he could trust him more.

Ren Yifei understood what he meant. The Scarlet Witch's character was indeed supposed to be extremely intelligent, even more so than the average person, and cunning.

He quieted down, indicating that I did understand, but refused to pay attention to Saman.

Does understanding something mean you have to listen to it? I've never heard of that.

Samantha finished his sandwich in a few bites, then approached the Scarlet Witch again, grabbing her hand as she scratched at him and giving it a kiss: "Want to talk about something?"

Ren Yifei: ? !!

If Ren Yifei were a cat, he would be completely furious right now.

With one hand cuffed and the other being held, Ren Yifei angrily kicked him, only to have his ankle grabbed and his knee pressed down on him.

"Gurgle..." Ren Yifei made a threatening sound from his throat, indicating that he was in a very bad mood at the moment.

Samantha had no idea that this fierce little monster in front of him could easily pin him to the ground and repeatedly torment and rub him if he simply rolled up his sleeves and untied the red rope. He just didn't do it, not that he couldn't.

"Want to go out for a walk?" Saman asked, and Ren Yifei was stunned.

Want to go out for a stroll?

"You grew up in this base, yet you've never seen what it looks like. You protect the people who protect it, yet you've never received any kindness from them. Don't you want to see what the human world will look like after the 'sacrifice' before you has been offered up?"

Saman's face was reflected in those eyes, and panic finally appeared in them.

"Who are you?" Ren Yifei asked slowly and deliberately, his voice slightly hoarse, as if he hadn't spoken to anyone in a long time.

"Guan Yue, call me Guan Yue."

Just as Saman and Ren Yifei were getting along well, the base and the player community were in an uproar.

Ren Yifei slept for about five hours, during which a lot happened. The authorities issued wanted notices for the exposed players, and the efforts to apprehend them were intensified, with bounties approaching those for murderers.

The hunting team duo disappeared immediately, the handsome player vanished in full view of everyone, and the laid-back trio were chased like dogs.

"How despicable! Absolutely despicable! Which player did this? Showing off their powerful attack cards? Everyone has those! Who does things like this? No rules whatsoever, just brute force to solve problems, what a fool!"

The authorities finally captured the Scarlet Witch, and players were all ready to visit the lab without proper authorization. But to everyone's surprise, one player hogged the spoils! Not only did he eat it all himself, but he also ruined everything! Unbelievable!

Players felt cheated and were furious.

"Don't the NPCs have something to locate Scarlet Witch? Why aren't they using it?" The girl with pigtails was panting heavily. If the location was successful, she would help the authorities catch her for free, hoping to atone for her crime.

"I heard it's past the expiration date and has expired," said Natural Curly. That player had timed it perfectly.

"Damn, that's so sneaky! Waaaaah, run!"

The night was far from peaceful, especially for the base.

Without the 'shielding' function, the monsters are on the move.

The first wave consisted of smaller monsters, scouting ahead for the larger ones. They weren't very aggressive and were small in size, but their numbers were vast, keeping the hunting party members on all sides constantly on their toes.

Left with no other choice, they resorted to using some of their firearms.

"Why do I feel the ground shaking?" The people in the underground city felt a slight tremor, but the sensation quickly subsided.

"Who used some kind of large transport plane?" the people at the base speculated.

They lived for more than a decade without being bothered by monsters, and without the sense of crisis of monsters besieging the city.

"This is just the beginning." This wave is just small fry; more and more monsters will discover this base in the future. We can handle it now, but what about later?

The hunting team leader leaned against the door, silently smoking. The smoke blurred his vision, and he couldn't help but think of something that happened a long time ago, eighteen years ago.

"Was what we did right or wrong?" The base maintained the former order of human society, allowing the elderly, women, and children to survive. But it was also the base that gave people a way out, making it impossible to directly face the dramatic changes in the world and various monsters.

Elsewhere in the world, humans survived in hunting parties, each struggling against the new world, their relationships with monsters complex, a mix of cooperation and competition. Humans seemed to have regressed to a primitive state, but they had indeed become stronger and more agile.

"Captain, we've found a lead!" A team member ran over. "Someone saw the suspect in a residential area. He was wearing a black hoodie and a mask. The witness remembers him as tall and a handsome young man."

"They're all wearing masks, how does he know he's a handsome young man?" the captain asked irritably.

"Huh? This..."

"I'll go take a look myself; I'll leave this place to you."

At the same time, the base leader received a threatening email on his phone containing only one picture: his daughter tied up.

The base leader initially refused to believe it, and immediately called the two bodyguards responsible for protecting his daughter. However, he couldn't get through, so he immediately took his men back home. The nanny and the two bodyguards were all dead, their faces rosy as if they were asleep.

His daughter wasn't in the room, and there were no signs of forced entry. After checking the security footage, the base leader discovered that his daughter had gone out with a man on her own initiative. It was the handsome player who had been wanted by the authorities not long ago.

"Who are you? What do you need?" Around 1 a.m., the base leader paced back and forth in his room, pinching the bridge of his nose and hesitating for a long time before replying to the message.

Outside the base, in a small building, a handsome player sat in a carved chair, replying to messages with a warm smile on his face.

Beside him was a young girl whose hands and feet were bound and whose mouth was gagged.

The girl looked at him with the same watery eyes the man had praised, as if she were pleading with him.

However, the handsome player is a cold-hearted man; his heart is made of ice, and if it were to warm up, he would die. So his heart is forever cold.

"Be a good girl and I won't hurt you. As long as your father loves you enough, you can go back to him safe and sound."

The handsome player stopped looking at her and continued texting the base leader: "I heard your base once conducted a special experiment. To be honest, our base would like to try it out as well."

Experiment? Upon seeing this word, the base leader had a bad feeling: "What kind of experiment?"

"Is the leader going to play dumb with me? Of course, it's... your son's experiment."

The bound young lady suddenly turned her head, looking at the handsome player, unable to speak. The handsome player smiled and said, "Actually, you should have a younger brother, two years younger than you."

The base leader in the office nearly dropped his phone when he saw the words "your son." He immediately put the phone aside and ran his hands through his hair in frustration.

"How did he know about this? Who leaked it?" the base leader asked through gritted teeth.

After a long pause, he replied, "You're mistaken, I don't have a son."

"Whether it's true or not, you know it yourself, you don't need to explain it to me. I just want the results, as well as the original experimental report and all the details."

Looking at the reply on his phone, the base leader's face turned pale, then green: "Impossible!"

"Heh." The handsome player chuckled. He knew this man's weakness; he knew from the confession he left behind that he had used so much euphemism to cultivate his future reputation. And reputation could bring him power and wealth.

Since he was willing to sacrifice a son and a wife back then, it's normal for him to sacrifice a daughter now. For his own benefit, there's nothing he wouldn't sacrifice.

"The New Human Project can be put aside for now. Can you tell me about the Scarlet Witch?"

The handsome player typed, finally revealing his true purpose: "Perhaps I can help you find the Scarlet Witch. If the Scarlet Witch escapes, your base might be finished. What is a base leader without a base?"

Click send.

Seeing the message "Send completed," the handsome player smiled even more broadly: "It's mine, it will always be mine?"

Saman shut down his computer, put the ultra-thin laptop and other prepared items into his backpack, and checked the time. This was precisely the time when the dungeon was least crowded.

He knocked on the door: "May I come in?"

After a while without any response, he was about to knock a second time when the door opened and the Scarlet Witch, her face dark and grimacing, walked out.

He was wearing a beige ruffled shirt and a burgundy skirt that Saman had bought from who-knows-where. He also had a hair clip in the same color as the skirt on his head, and white lace stockings and red round-toed doll shoes on his legs.

The Scarlet Witch has exquisite features, a slim waist, and long legs; wearing this outfit, she looks like a giant real-life doll.

"Cough, I didn't know you were a boy." Saman's eyes darted around.

He bought this outfit before going to the lab to rescue people. He really thought the Scarlet Witch was a girl, a witch, a witch. Little did he know that the nickname was so deceptive.

Positive review.

Ren Yifei glanced at him. His awkwardness wasn't because it was a Lolita dress, but because the Scarlet Witch was very unaccustomed to such close-fitting clothing and would definitely feel uncomfortable.

Neither Ren Yifei nor Scarlet Witch seem to care much about gender in their clothing. If it's for work, not wearing it is fine; it's others who will feel awkward.

"Here is your cloak." Saman handed him a small backpack, extending his hand as he awaited the princess's favor.

Ren Yifei glared at him fiercely: Human, do you think I'll trust you just because you fed me a meal of blood?

The highly vigilant Scarlet Witch declared that she would not be easily tempted and gave Saman a cold laugh.

Saman smiled slightly: "Let's go for a walk. When it's about time, I'll see you off."

Ren Yifei pushed his hand away, walked over, opened the door, and the aroma of all kinds of 'food' wafted in, whetting one's appetite.

I understand now why Saman made sure he drank enough blood first.

Shortly after Saman left, a group of people arrived at his residence and barged in, but they were too late; the man had already left.

"Boss, there's no one here, and the blankets are still warm."

The hunting team captain, his face dark, ordered: "Investigate!"

Author's Note: Afei: ...

Saman: It's all a misunderstanding. I didn't know that 'witch' was a vague term (

silent praise).
