On their way home
"As you just received bad news for today this is a way to brighten your spirit sister. Look at all these men who want your hand in marriage without anything in return but love" Jane teasingly said.
Amara's mother laughed until her stomach hurt.
"I'm certainly not looking for a hand in marriage without a job title yet, that's not how I imagined to start my adult life" Amara responded, annoyed at the men that kept asking her out.
Amara was one of the most beautiful and most wanted women in her area, if not the only one. But she was not about to entertain people who are not even in her level, as she always says.
When they arrived home the only thing on Amara's mind was to charge her phone and check for interview emails, as her phone died while they were still at work.
Things were not looking good for her and all she wanted to do was relocate because she was tired of her home town.
At dawn, Amara's mother was sat down with her sister in the kitchen.
She raised her sudden question "Jane what did Frank want from you in private. I always tried to get you to tell me, but you wouldn't".
Jane sat in shock and discomfort, she finally responded dodgingly "He wanted help with some of the work at the farm mother, it's nothing you have to worry about.
Amara's mother confirmed her long time suspicions when she noticed old bruises on her wrists.
Amara's mother went to bed angry and with her heart bleeding from heartaches.
A Week Later.
Amara woke up to an empty bed on her sister's side of the bed. She did not understand what she was witnessing as her sister was not an early bird.
She followed a gasping sound that came from the bathroom and she saw her sister crying her eyes out, right there on the bathroom floor.
Jane wiped her eyes and sniffed her nose quickly when she heard someone approaching. Amara entered the room, "why are you on the floor Jane, what happened?"
Jane stood up in a flash and splashed her face with cold water that was on the floor in a bucket.
She gasped out, "Nothing had happened Amara, stop worrying about me I'm totally fine." She left the room.
Amara tried stopping her but did not want to fight her in the process. Amara began to worry more because her sister is certainly not a under the weather person.
After taking a bath, she went back into the bedroom to take out clothes for the day. It was Saturday, they didn't go to work on weekends unless summoned.
Few minutes passed and they were both ready and joined their mother on the kitchen table to have breakfast.
That morning, they could sense the tension from her. Amara's mother kept quite the whole time until they finished eating.
She stood up to clear the table. Jane received a call from her boyfriend, which she did not answer, and she took off to the bedroom.
Amara was surprised that she didn't answer her phone since she always does and especially because it was her boyfriend calling to come fetch her.
Jane would usually visit her partner on weekends if she is not at the farm.
Hours passed, and the boyfriend came by their house. "Hey Amara, is your sister home I can't get ahold of her on the phone." asked Michael after he knocked.
"Hi Michael, uhm yea..she is home, but I think something is wrong with her, her mood is down since the morning maybe you can brighten her up." Amara responded when she answered the door.
Amara went to call for her in the bedroom, and she bumped into her mother who was in the bedroom since after breakfast. Amara's mother was dressed well to go to town, and she greeted Michael and went on her way.
"Hey sis Michael is here to see you, he's in the kitchen. And mother went to town so you can ease up a bit now.." Amara said in amusement, trying to put a smile on Jane's face.
"I don't want to see anyone right now I just want to be alone.." Jane responded sobbing.
Michael went into the bedroom to find the love of his life sobbing on the bed.
"Hey sweetheart, what's wrong? I called you several times and left text messages but no response, talk to me I'm here.." Michael asked while carrying Jane on his lap and asking Amara with the side eyes what's wrong with Jane.
Amara lifted her shoulders to respond to him.
Meanwhile Jane was still crying on Michael's shoulder, Amara stepped out to give them space.
Jane did not say a thing to Michael, she was crying and wanted only to sleep.
Jane ended up sleeping on Michael's lap and he had to put her on the bed for her sleep comfortably.
He went to Amara looking worried. "Please take care of her for me and find out what's wrong with her please Amara I beg you, but right now I have leave I have something to finish up at the office.
Jane's boyfriend is a lawyer and is in the process of building his own firm. He truly loves Jane and went all out on her in everything he did.
"Yes of course Michael she is my baby sister I will do anything to protect her. The thing is at the farm, the owner's son always calls for her privately. I don't know why but I don't like it" Amara pointed out.
"That does not sound good at all, what if he could be hurting her? Does your mother know about this? How long has it been happening?"
Michael asked.
Amara responded, "I think something is wrong too, whenever she comes back from him, her mood changes, yes mother knows but she also is not happy about It. I'm not sure how long it has been, but I can say quite a while."
Michael rushed out," I will keep checking up on her but for now I have to run I will come by later to see her, maybe she'd be awake and less sad."
Amara was left overthinking more about the matter, she even forgot about her own job hunting problems for a while. She initially thought Jane was sad maybe due to a misunderstanding between her and Michael but that did not seem to be the problem.
She later prepared a meal for the evening, and when she was done, she took some to Jane for her to eat something.
"Amara, I don't feel well" Jane spoke out when Amara was approaching.
"It could be that you were crying all day and you did not eat or drink anything, you could dehydrate, here eat something please" Amara pleaded with her.
Minutes later, Jane only touched her food once and began to cry out of pain.
"Amara help me I'm in pain!" she shouted out.
Amara came running from the kitchen to find Jane severely shaking and screaming on the floor.
She didn't know what to do, she stood there in shock.
Amara's mother walked through the door to see Jane on the floor and Amara shaking nervously.
"What had happened Amara, what's wrong with your sister!?" Amara's mother shook her.
Amara could not speak, and Jane was laying helplessly on the floor.
Amara's mother tried to speak to Jane, but she was screaming and shaking. "Amara call someone to help, call Michael now!" Her mother shouted in fear, she began sobbing as she didn't know what's wrong with her daughter.
The community stood outside to witness as Amara's mother cried for help, their neighbor called an ambulance.
