Chapter 5 - Chapter 5: Aftermath

The final whistle's shriek didn't merely conclude the match; it ripped apart the very essence of Blue Lock's existence.

For a long moment, complete stillness enveloped the pitch, interrupted solely by the laboured breaths of eleven weary boys in white and eleven defeated boys in blue.

At that moment, the dam gave way.

On Team V's side, the response reflected a disjointed version of their performance.

Shidou released a fierce roar, striking his chest as though he had clinched the winning moment himself, his previous defiance fading away in the raw excitement of triumph.

"SEE THAT! THAT'S WHAT OCCURS WHEN YOU UNLEASH A TRUE STRIKER!" he exclaimed, even though he had no part in the goal. Zantetsu fell to his knees, breathless, as Aryu swept his hair back with a theatrical, exhausted gesture. "What a challenging ordeal it has been... yet, I suppose there is a certain beauty in triumph."

At the core of everything, Reo Mikage remained motionless. The objective, a concept defying the laws of physics, represented the final confirmation of Yuto's detached philosophy, and it seemed to seal the fate of his leadership.

He observed Nagi, his beloved Nagi, the precious gem he had unearthed.

Nagi gazed at Yuto, a subtle spark of curiosity flickering in his typically unremarkable eyes. Reo had once thought that this particular look was meant solely for him. A chilling knot of a feeling deeper than jealousy twisted in his stomach. He chose not to celebrate. He turned and walked towards the tunnel, his mind racing with thoughts, plotting and calculating ways to reclaim what belonged to him.

What about Yuto? The Emperor slowly opened his eyes, revealing a world that awaited his gaze. A sense of fulfilment from an impeccable calculation lingered, a clear and precise mathematical certainty residing in the depths of his thoughts. Yet, it was eclipsed by a profound, resonating weariness.

His head pulsed with discomfort. The relentless, intense processing had created a palpable discomfort lingering behind his eyes. His muscles, extended by his flexibility to their utmost, resembled overstretched rubber bands. He had emerged victorious, yet an emptiness lingered within him. The weight of the crown was substantial.

His gaze moved over the pitch, absorbing the essence of defeat.

Isagi Yoichi found himself on his hands and knees, his head bowed, as his fists struck the artificial turf in a quiet yet intense rhythm of frustration.

Bachira knelt beside him, placing a hand gently on his back. His usual grin was nowhere to be found, substituted instead by a deep, solemn understanding.

Kunigami gazed into the distance, his strong physique sagging in a state of disbelief.

Chigiri was already striding away, his pace rendered futile, his expression a portrait of frustration.

Data points Yuto's mind provided effortlessly. Variables neutralised.

Yet, he caught sight of her once more. The sister of Chigiri.

She had ceased her cheering. She stood there, observing her brother as he walked away, her hands gently covering her mouth, her eyes shimmering with unfallen tears. The image struck him like a sudden surge of energy, awakening every part of his being.

It defied reason. Unreasonable. It was a factor that was meant to be inconsequential to the result, yet it had an impact.

It generated an odd, crackling disruption during his post-match analysis. Why did her disappointment seem like a variable he had to address?

A distinct, resonant voice sliced through his reverie, drawing him back to the one individual whose information eluded his attempts at classification.

"What we witnessed was an extraordinary demonstration of biomechanical efficiency."

Anri Teieri stood at the boundary of the pitch, her tablet clutched closely to her chest, exuding a polished and composed presence. Her eyes, keen and perceptive, remained locked on him, capturing every detail. She had come closer without him realising it—a lapse in his awareness.

Yuto shifted his body to meet her gaze completely. "It was the natural result of the gathered information," he responded, his voice weary and devoid of energy.

"A logical outcome that disrupted four of our sensor parameters for shot spin and velocity," she replied, a subtle, nearly undetectable smile playing at the corners of her lips.

It was not a smile. The expression of a scientist confronted with a captivating anomaly was truly remarkable. "Was it the 'Molten Drive'?"

"A comprehensive diagnostic of your muscle fibre recruitment patterns will be necessary. The force exerted on your ankle joint at the moment of impact must have been remarkable."

She communicated in a way that resonated with him. The language that speaks through data, through metrics. A sense of relief washed over me. The ground was firm and stable beneath me.

"He recognised that the flexibility training was a crucial factor, discovering an unexpected sense of ease in the objective evaluation."

"The torque produced would have ripped apart the ligaments of someone less equipped for such a force."

For a moment, they remained still, enveloped in silence as the chaos of the departing teams swirled around them—a tranquil oasis of contemplation amidst a tumultuous sea of emotion.

Anri's gaze softened slightly as he looked beyond the player to the boy, who appeared completely exhausted.

"The most efficient path to victory," she remarked, her tone gently evolving, "is indeed a heavy one to traverse alone, wouldn't you agree, Hiraijin-kun?"

The question served as a precise instrument, cutting through the layers of thought. It slipped past all his defences and went directly to the emptiness in his chest. She witnessed it. She perceived the burden. He lacked any data or calculations to craft a response. He could only gaze at her, the weight of her words suspended in the air around them.

Just as he was about to respond, a loud, synthesised fanfare burst forth from the stadium's speakers, causing several players to startle.

"ATTENTION ALL PARTICIPANTS. FIRST selection: MATCH 1 RESULTS ARE NOW FINAL. THE LOCK OFF BEGINS NOW."

A colossal screen came alive, illuminating the rankings with vibrant clarity. Team V stood at the pinnacle. Team Z found themselves at the lowest point. The names of the bottom two players on Team Z illuminated in a vivid red, accompanied by a sharp, electronic buzzer that echoed through the air.

"ELIMINATED: WATARU KUON. ELIMINATED: YUDAI IMAMURA."

The truth of Blue Lock hit hard, like a sledgehammer striking with undeniable impact. The two boys remained still for a moment, their faces gradually contorting with emotion.

They were unceremoniously led away from the pitch, their aspirations and futures seemingly confined and out of reach. The celebration on Team V's side came to an abrupt halt.

The price of triumph had become painfully evident.

Isagi lifted his gaze from the turf, his expression drained as a chilling realisation washed over him. This was not merely a game. This was a cleansing process.

Yuto observed the eliminations, his weariness fading away, supplanted by a chilling, precise awareness. The equation turned out to be more straightforward than he had anticipated. It was never solely about achieving victory.

It was centred around the essence of survival. In order to endure, he had to become more powerful and quicker. He had to consume every weapon, perfect every skill, and eradicate every variable that posed a threat to his standing.

Once more, his gaze settled on Isagi. The boy rose to his feet, his despair transforming into a chilling determination. Across the expanse of the pitch, their eyes locked in a moment of connection.

This time, silence reigned supreme. A quiet, shared comprehension lingered in the air: what lay before us was merely the start of something greater.

The lock had been removed. The genuine struggle for existence had now genuinely commenced.

In the profound stillness that followed the departure, Hiraijin Yuto sensed the confines of his existence tightening around him, the road ahead dwindling to a stark and unforgiving reality: evolve or face oblivion.
