Chapter 1 - Night one

Aurora POV.

Centuries ago supernatural creatures were gods walking the earth, humans were slaves. They lived and did as they pleased, there was nothing that could stop the dynasty of power except the dynasty itself.

Clash of egos, battle of superiority sent the world into endless chaos. Until they arrived. Hunters. Humans with supernatural powers, enhanced abilities and skills linked to an unknown heritage.

The great war began,in order to maintain balance both sides created a council, held together by a code.

The shadows belonged to the supernaturals, any creature that stepped outside of the code would be destroyed.

The true blood hunters used to maintain that code…

"Aurora, Aurora, Aurora!" My brother's persistent words woke me up.

"What Steven, go away." I muttered, rolling to the side of my bed.

He grunted and the next thing I knew, my body landed with a thud on the floor.

Did he just push me down the bed?

"See." She sighed.

"You're awake, how hard was that?"

"I'm gonna kill you." I jumped up but he was already gone, his giggles echoing as he sprinted down the stairs. I followed suit, pacing behind her.

"Whoaaaa guys, easy pumpkin." my father teased.

"He did it again, dad."

"No." My father chuckled softly.

" Steven, you've gotta learn how to start respecting your sister." He smiled.

"Especially after her big day tonight." My mom chipped in from the kitchen.

Oh. Right today was supposedly the biggest day of my life, but I could feel my smile fade after my mother reminded me of it.

I was getting inaugurated into the frey witches warriors coven, the biggest honor a witch could ever wish for.

"Are you sure?" My dad asked, concern etched in his eyes.

I nodded.

"Of course she's okay, this is what she's wanted since she was a girl."

My mother took the words out of my mouth.

"Our baby is making us proud." My mother said softly, squeezing my cheeks.

I forced a smile on my face, trying to hide it away from my father.

"If you're getting cold feet now, you can just fuck it you know right?" Steven hummed from behind.

"Manners." Mother let out.

"You should be more like your elder sister." Steven frantically rolled his eyes,

"This again?" he murmured.

I chuckled watching them put on their usual drama.

"Are you sure you're gonna be okay honey?" My father asked.

"Ashley's right, you know, you can just forget about it."

"I'm okay dad."

Liar!, you're not okay. I smiled again to convince myself that I wasn't lying.

"I'm gonna be late." I breathed.

••••••••••••

My father drove me there, I relaxed my head on the glass window. He constantly looked up at the mirror, constantly checking on me. His eyes sent more messages than lips ever could.

When we finally reached,my hands paused on the handle.

"It's not too late kiddo…I won't be disappointed in you."

At that moment my lips almost moved, but something in my voice held it all back, I only nodded.

"I'll miss you guys." I swung the door open, my first sight was eyes.

Glares that made me question each of my steps, their murmurs were simply too hard to mute.

My legs pressed forward, head lowered in shame or whatever it was.

"Is this a joke?" One of the voices whispered.

I rushed to the nearest corner I could find, and breathed out a comforting sigh, like I ran up a mountain.

"Well, well,well."

Shit! I celebrated too early. I recognized that venomous tone,Isla

"I'm surprised you came, your parents could've just found you the perfect hunter partner…pull the strings as they usually do." She sneered.

My lips were sealed shut, eyes fixed on her face.

"What are you looking at?" She hissed, approaching closer.

"Settle down!" Our commander barked.

She sucked in her teeth, her eyes dripping with malice.

"See you later Aurora." A smile forming at the corner of her lips.

Hopefully never Isla, I hope never to see your annoying face again. Somehow I wished I said that out loud.

"In the war against evil, each Frey warrior is obliged to find a hunter that they would work together with and create a bond." She paused, scanned the room for a while.

"I assume you all know how crucial it is…you all know what happens to Frey witches without a hunter partner, the risk involved as well. Good luck to all of you."

In other words we need each other to avoid going rogue,it wasn't always like this.

True blooded hunters didn't need a spell bound partner to survive, eventually they became few and we needed to improvise.

I guess this was the best they could think of.

"Let the ceremony begin." Those were the last words I managed to pick out.

Ceremony. That's one way to put it, more like a death companion.

The scent of incense hit my nose before the door swung open and men in suits rushed in, with their well arranged hair and shoulders that never seemed to come down.

"Hunters."I sighed.

It had to be them, no wonder the entire hall began to smell like cockiness.

Soon enough everyone got their pairs, I stood in the corner observing, gently sipping on the wine.

Glaring throughout the ceremony, Isla kept glancing back at me, seemingly satisfied by what she saw.

The wine was intoxicating, with every sip I had I longed for more. It was the first time I'd tasted a wine like this.

"You're in a mood." A girl whispered behind me.

Her short red hair and green eyes made her pretty hard not to notice, but a very unique factor stood out more, she was wearing a suit.

"I'm Taylor." she said with a smile on her face.

"Aurora." I replied, with a tone that came out angrier than I intended.

"I didn't mean to reply like that."

"It happens sometimes, getting grumpy on your special day…you wanna rip everyone apart."I smiled.

"There, you laughed." She remarked.

"Why aren't you dancing hunter hunting like the rest?" I asked.

"I wanted to go smoke."

My eyes widened with shock, then she chuckled.

"Just kidding."

"You know if we don't get a partner, they're gonna pair us with a random dude right?"

"I'll take my chances." I replied in a bright tone.

"You must be bloody mad." She teased.

My laugh came out louder than I intended, that's weird. I swunged my head and tightly closed my eyes for some seconds.

"Are you good?"

"I think so." I replied.

My visions were going blurry, the room was beginning to spin.

"You've had too much to drink." Her voice sounded slowed.

"I think I need to use the restroom." My hands started trembling.

Somehow this didn't feel like normal,I barely took two successful steps before clinging to the wall.

The restroom was further than I thought, my palms grew sweaty. I could hear Taylor muted calls.

"Aurora." She bellowed.

I bumped into something…

A wall maybe and my drink spilled on it.But who would put a wall in the middle of the hall?

The music and noise fell silent, dead silence.

My hair was strung up,I had a feeling I might have bumped into trouble. I raised my hand slowly.

"Who are…" my voice hung in my throat.

He had silver hair and his blue eyes blazed with anger.

A pure blooded hunter?

How the fuck did I manage to piss off a pure blooded hunter?
