Chapter 29: Targeted by Danzō
Watching him all dressed and ready, it was obvious he'd been up for a while—
just hiding in his room, waiting for Aoyama Ryuun to call him out.
"Already hungry, brother-in-law? I'll go grab breakfast!"
Seeing Nawaki like that, Tsunade's gaze turned dangerously sharp.
"Nawaki… are you deliberately avoiding me?"
Of course Tsunade wasn't stupid—she could tell he'd been stalling.
He wasn't waiting for anyone; he was just avoiding her cooking.
"Sis! Please, spare me!"
Nawaki's face was twisted in despair.
At this point, he was developing a psychological trauma—
just looking at that charred mess made him shudder from deep inside.
"Tch! It's just a little off in flavor, what's the big deal?"
Nawaki asked tentatively, "Sis… have you ever eaten your own cooking?"
"Of course not! I know it tastes bad—why would I eat it?"
Tsunade answered so naturally, so matter-of-factly,
that she didn't even realize how absurd that sounded.
"..."
Nawaki was genuinely speechless.
He was stunned.
"Hmph! I'll let you off today. But tomorrow, we continue the taste tests!"
"Huh?"
"..."
Monsters. They're both monsters, Nawaki thought bitterly.
He decided that after breakfast, he was moving out.
Living with Tsunade and Aoyama Ryuun was unbearable—
not only was it awkward, but he literally couldn't survive the dark cuisine.
—
In a small breakfast shop, Aoyama Ryuun was calmly enjoying his meal.
Beside him sat Tsunade.
"What's wrong?" he asked, noticing her furrowed brows.
Could there really be any danger inside Konoha?
"Shimura Danzō," Tsunade muttered. "I've got a bad feeling that old man's going to make a move."
Given her position, Tsunade knew plenty of the village's hidden affairs.
And she understood exactly what kind of person Danzō was.
"You figured that out?" Ryuun asked lightly.
Tsunade nodded seriously, her logic so sound it almost seemed convincing.
Nawaki, sitting across from them, rolled his eyes.
"Big sis, stop overthinking. With brother-in-law's strength, that Danzō guy wouldn't dare!"
But Tsunade's "naive little brother" clearly didn't know what kind of man Danzō really was.
"Brother-in-law!"
Helpless, Nawaki turned pleading eyes to Ryuun.
Every time Tsunade scolded him, Ryuun was his last hope.
But today, Ryuun just said coolly,
"This time… I'm siding with Tsunade."
"Hmph!"
Tsunade smirked smugly, giving Nawaki a triumphant glance.
See? My man's got my back.
Nawaki could only sigh, his expression growing more and more bitter.
"It's not that I wouldn't help you," Ryuun added, shrugging,
"but if Danzō really makes a move… well, that's a different story."
Tsunade started to nod—then froze.
"What do you mean? What kind of 'move' are you talking about?"
Ryuun didn't answer.
Instead, his eyes shifted toward the window.
With his advanced Observation Haki, he'd already sensed someone approaching.
Swish!
In an instant, a masked shinobi appeared beside him,
wearing the uniform of the Anbu.
There was only one group that fit that description—
Root, under Danzō's direct command.
"Aoyama Ryuun. Danzō-sama orders you to come with me."
The Root agent's tone was cold,
as if addressing a nobody.
Ryuun didn't even look at him.
"..."
The Root agent frowned at being ignored.
He repeated, voice hardening,
"Once again, Aoyama Ryuun—come with me."
One hand moved subtly toward the hilt of his blade.
His tone was unmistakably threatening.
"Alright, alright," Ryuun said lazily. "Let me finish breakfast first."
"Danzō-sama's orders were to come immediately."
The man's reply was sharp, impatient.
His hand twitched again—ready to draw.
Ryuun's eyes finally lifted, calm and cold.
"Do you even know who you're talking to?"
His voice dropped, low and commanding.
Then—
"Kneel."
