Chapter 42 - Adrian

The three walked further into the forest. 

The air grew thicker and colder, large trees towering over them like ancient guardians. 

Leaves rustled faintly overhead, and the cold winter breeze scattered flecks of snow across the forest ground.

Elora walked a little ahead, her fingers lightly brushing a few lower brushes aside.

Azazeal followed behind watching her keenly, the little boy perched against his broad chest, small head resting between the nape of his neck and his shoulder.

Elora glanced behind her and when her eyes met his, Azazeal quickly averted his gaze, patting the boy's back lightly instead. 

"He's very comfortable with you holding him now, unlike earlier," Elora whispered with a small smile.

Azazeal didn't answer, he swallowed trying to ignore the warmth tugging at his chest 

A light sound drifted through the forest.

Elora froze, her eyes snapping to the front. "Did you hear that sound?"

Azazeal's gaze sharpened, eyes narrowed ahead.
