Chapter 12 - Grandpa's Study

I grew up without a mother, and my father was a scoundrel. Children my age looked down on me for being a motherless child and wouldn't play with me. Therefore, from childhood to adulthood, the only thing that accompanied me was books.

I have loved reading since I was a child, but unfortunately, because of my father, I could no longer go to school and therefore could no longer read. Seeing so many books again fills me with joy.

I then pulled out a book, "Amazing Stories" written by Ling Mengchu of the Ming Dynasty.

This is one of my favorite books. The "Three Words and Two Slaps" refers to Ling Mengchu's "Slapping the Casket" and "Second Slapping the Casket," as well as Feng Menglong's "Stories to Awaken the World," "Stories to Warn the World," and "Stories to Enlighten the World," all of which are famous literary classics.

I have a problem: when I start reading, I forget everything else. Just then, a cough interrupted me. I looked up and saw that my grandfather was standing by the window, looking at me.

This was perhaps the first time I had seen my grandfather's face. He was an old man with deep eyes, and his body seemed quite robust. However, he looked so lonely and forlorn.

Come to think of it, my dad told me that my grandma died a long time ago, and my grandpa never remarried, but just worked hard on his business.

Now that both sons are dead, even if my grandfather hates my father, they are still his own flesh and blood. Such a tragedy of a white-haired man burying a black-haired man is something that not everyone can bear.

"Do you like reading?" Grandpa asked me, but I couldn't read the expression on his face.

  "Mm." I nodded.

Grandpa then said to me, "Reading is good; it can enrich your life. You can read any of the books here, but remember to put them back in their original places after you're done." With that, Grandpa left.

This is the only thing that has made me truly happy since I came to this family: Grandpa actually allowed me to look at all the books in the study. It seems that Wu Xin and the others were lying; Grandpa doesn't really dislike me that much.

When I'm reading, I can forget everything. By the time I come to my senses, it's already dusk. So I close the door to the study and go back to the small woodshed.

However, as I was about to enter, I heard a faint sobbing sound. It was Sister Xue's voice; she was sitting on the bed, sobbing softly, which pained my heart.

However, when she heard a noise outside the door, she quickly wiped away her tears, looked at me with a smile, and said, "Aqing is back. I've already prepared the meal and am just waiting for you to come back and eat."

Seeing Xuejie like this, I became even more determined to treat her well and give her a good life.

Today, Sister Xue doesn't have to stay at Wu Yun's place anymore, and she can even cook for me. I feel an indescribable sense of peace.

Although the meal was simple, I was very satisfied. There was very little meat in the dishes, and Sister Xue couldn't bear to eat it all, so she gave it all to me, which touched me deeply.

After dinner, it was time to take a bath. The place wasn't very big, and the bathing area was separated from our sleeping area by only a thin curtain.

Hearing the splashing water inside, the scene from before immediately flashed into my mind, making my mouth go dry.

After experiencing what happened with Wu Xin and Wu Yun, I also tasted the forbidden fruit for the first time, and naturally knew the wonder of that kind of thing.

But what I find most captivating is the scene of Xuejie taking a shower that night; her fair and perfect figure is unforgettable.
