Chapter 9 - Chapter 9: What Is a Boyfriend?

Chu Xijin shook his head in terror: "I don't want it."

"Oh." Mu Ran sounded disappointed.

Frightened, Chu Xijin quickly changed the topic: "Auntie, does Sister Yingying also live alone like you?"

"No, she has a boyfriend, and she's living with him." Mu Ran pointed to the fridge: "Help me get a bottle of Wangzai."

"Okay." Chu Xijin walked to the fridge, still pondering what a boyfriend was. After giving the Wangzai milk to his aunt, he opened the learning device to search.

"What is a boyfriend?"

Chu Xijin clicked on the answer with a pen, and the voice echoed: "A boyfriend is a male friend a woman dates, typically referring to a fixed romantic partner..."

"Wait a minute, what are you listening to?" Mu Ran sat up to check his search entry.

"Auntie, do you have a boyfriend? It says here that girls can have many boyfriends?" Chu Xijin asked curiously.

"No."

"Not even one?"

"Exactly! What's your problem?" Mu Ran lowered her eyelashes, looking at him unfriendly.

Chu Xijin could see the flames burning in her eyes, and he shrank his neck, moved a bit, and distanced himself from her.

If she doesn't have one, she doesn't have one.

Why is Auntie angry?

Isn't being free and comfortable also nice?

Mu Ran lay back on the sofa, drinking the canned Wangzai milk in a difficult posture.

Speechless.

She had just become an adult when she had a dream and, inspired by it, made a bold movie.

Everyone thinks her love history is rich.

In various marketing accounts, her male consorts and patrons combined are enough for her to manage an Eastern Palace.

Haha.

Mu Ran rolled her eyes and drank down the Wangzai milk, "Xiao Jin."

"Here!"

"What kind of young uncle do you want?"

Chu Xijin thought for a moment and said, "Someone who treats Auntie well, has money and power, but most importantly, someone Auntie likes."

"Your standards are quite high."

"Not really." Chu Xijin said earnestly looking at her, "Auntie, you are talented, come from a good family, very beautiful, and kind-hearted. If such a person appears and you choose him, it's his good fortune."

Mu Ran was impressed by his high emotional intelligence, no wonder he's been alone in the Eastern Palace like a young prince; his ability to speak is superb, "I accept everything, but how am I kind-hearted?"

"You didn't make me leave." Chu Xijin's lips pursed slightly, "Mother said to me, after having you bring me here, you should find a good family for me, let me live well in that family, instead of staying by your side."

Mu Ran raised an eyebrow, "How do you know I'm not keeping you temporarily?"

"Is it so?"

"Mhmm."

"Then... then..." Chu Xijin's throat went dry, suddenly feeling very lost.

Auntie is mother's biological sister, also his only relative in this world. If he has to leave, he needs to integrate into a new family.

That person would find it hard to be as easygoing and good to him as Aunt Mu Ran.

Chu Xijin knows very well.

Aunt treats him very well.

Different from anyone else, her kindness is cold and volatile outwardly, never showing a good face.

But she cares about everything about him; the way she expresses it may not be perfect, but it is the most comfortable for him.

In Daqi, mother also treated him well, but he could only meet her once a month, and every time there were many people watching, concubines from the harem came, and the rules during each meeting were very strict. If he made a mistake, he would be punished to kneel for hours, which was extremely oppressive.

Apart from mother's kindness, there was only Uncle, who was so very busy, only concerned about his riding and archery skills and whether he had read military books.

He wouldn't care about his life.

But getting along with Aunt, she unintentionally cares for him in every aspect.

He can casually eat, do things he likes, and feel that he's not a burden.

Perhaps...

His perception was wrong.

He is just a burden.
