Chapter 14 - Chapter 14: Selling the Apology Gift to Buy Coffins

Bai Xuan's account was completely different from what Xu Zeqing said that night.

But Xu Xingguang wouldn't believe either of their one-sided stories.

After quietly waiting for Bai Xuan to finish speaking, anger filled Xu Xingguang's eyes as she sneered, "He couldn't bear to see you die, but he was fine with treating me as a mobile blood bank. You two are quite the devoted couple."

Truly disgusting.

Xu Xingguang maintained her composure and asked Bai Xuan, "So why are you here today?"

Bai Xuan said, "Upon hearing that you woke up, Jiang Heng felt too ashamed to face you. But I couldn't rest easy inside. I heard you're being discharged today, so I wanted to come personally to apologize."

Xu Xingguang raised an eyebrow, "Apologize?"

She eyed Bai Xuan from head to toe a few times before saying, "Where's the apology gift?"

Bai Xuan seemed momentarily at a loss.

Did Xu Xingguang forgive them so easily?

Coming back to her senses, Bai Xuan hurriedly said, "The gifts are in the car. I'll have someone bring them over right away."

Bai Xuan made a phone call, and soon, two bodyguards in black suits brought several boxes into the main hall of the Xu Family's home.

They placed the boxes on the ground and opened them one by one in front of Xu Xingguang.

Bai Xuan's list of apology gifts included an antique gemstone necklace, exaggerated in style, a bracelet made from top-grade imperial green jade, property rights to a villa, and many shiny pieces of jewelry that young women adore.

An initial estimate put the value at no less than a hundred million.

Xu Xingguang looked at those items with eyes as cold as ice.

"My blood seems to be quite valuable." Then, turning her words around, Xu Xingguang said, "Leave the gifts, Miss Bai, and please leave."

Bai Xuan wouldn't give up without accomplishing her goal, so she asked Xu Xingguang, "Miss Xu, can you forgive us?"

Forgive?

Forgiveness is for saints; she's only responsible for sending them to meet King Yan.

Xu Xingguang made no effort to hide the disgust and revulsion in her eyes. She played the part of someone unwilling but resigned to reality, saying in a deep voice, "You didn't treat me as human and yet want my forgiveness? I won't forgive you, but rest assured, since I've received the hush money, I won't dwell on this matter any longer."

"In the future, kindly stay far away from me, Miss Bai and Mr. Jiang, lest you pollute my sight."

The worse Xu Xingguang's attitude became, the more relieved Bai Xuan felt.

If Xu Xingguang had forgiven them easily, that would have been unsettling.

Evidently, Jiang Heng was right; Xu Xingguang is a woman who understands the way of the world, knowing that eggs cannot collide with stones.

She posed no real threat.

Even if she woke up, she couldn't stir up much trouble.

Bai Xuan gave her a long look before leaving with the bodyguards.

Once Bai Xuan was gone, Xu Zeqing approached Xu Xingguang and asked in surprise, "Xingguang, you're just letting them go like that?"

"What else could I do?" Xu Xingguang replied, appearing reluctant to accept reality, "Can I seek revenge on them? The Jiang Family is powerful; my arms and legs are too slender to wrestle with an elephant leg."

Upon hearing this, Xu Zeqing immediately felt relieved.

Her willingness to forgive Jiang Heng meant that Jiang Heng would return the company to him, along with an additional piece of land.

Everything he lost was suddenly restored!

Out of the corner of her eye, Xu Xingguang noticed Xu Zeqing's gleeful expression and guessed that Jiang Heng had surely promised Xu Zeqing some benefits to smooth things over.

Xu Xingguang took a photo of the jewelry and forwarded it to Zhang Zhiyi, leaving a message: [Senior Sister, sell these things for cash, and with the money, commission two coffins for me according to Jiang Heng and Bai Xuan's measurements!]

Forgive?

Forgiveness is for saints; she's only responsible for sending them to meet King Yan.

Xu Xingguang pretended to have amnesia to deceive Bai Xuan because she knew she was currently alone and powerless against Jiang Heng.

When she becomes stronger, she will personally go to West Continent City, lock Jiang Heng and Bai Xuan into coffins, and make them a loving couple until death!

Xu Zeqing approached Xu Xingguang and said, "Xingguang, your grandfather is ill and unable to get up. Would you like to see him? He was so happy knowing you were coming home today that he couldn't sleep all night."

Xu Xingguang didn't have a deep impression of her grandfather. In her memory, he was a pedantic man who once served as the principal of Yujiang City's No. 1 High School, possessing some scholar's dignity and self-righteousness.

But such an educator was, in fact, someone who favored males over females.

"I'll go see him." Accompanied by Xu Zeqing, Xu Xingguang went to the elderly room on the east side.

Her grandfather, Xu Qingnian, just turned 70. Five years ago, Xu Qingnian injured his head in the bathroom. Initially, it was painless and went unnoticed, but afterward, he developed a gait problem, leading to a complete stroke and paralysis the following year.

From then on, he was bedridden.

The grandfather's room was on the easternmost side of the ground floor. Upon entering, a strong medicinal smell mixed with an indescribable elderly odor greeted Xu Xingguang.

This was the scent that only emanates from a long bedridden elder, resulting from untreated bedsores and decaying flesh.

Despite the lady of the house deliberately spraying perfume, it was difficult to cover up.

The room was dimly lit, and Xu Qingnian was already asleep, his breathing slightly heavy. Once a robust and mighty old man, he had become skin and bones after four years of illness, with age spots covering his once stern and pedantic face.

Xu Xingguang couldn't help but feel wistful.

Who would have thought that the once-dignified, commanding principal would endure such a bleak twilight?

"Grandfather." Xu Xingguang softly called out.

The old man's eyelids fluttered briefly before slowly opening.

His cloudy eyes stared at Xu Xingguang for a moment before he recognized her. "Xingguang, you've really woken up?" Xu Qingnian had heard Xu Zeqing say his granddaughter had awakened but dared not believe it. Yet, here she was!

Xu Xingguang nodded, "I'm back, grandfather."
