Chapter 1 - Confession Rejected, Farewell to Senior Sister Ganyu

On the parasol trees, cold cicadas cried bitterly. Autumn rain mixed with falling leaves drifted endlessly in the air.

A man with a single silver-blue ponytail, crimson eyes, and a handsome face gazed up toward the Qunyu Pavilion.

Beside him stood a girl with a pair of qilin horns, her ice-blue hair and peerless beauty radiating like moonlight—Ganyu.

"Junior Brother Jingchen, are you really going to confess to Ningguang?"

"Mm. Ningguang gives me this strange sense of familiarity, an indescribable warmth—especially her voice."

Ganyu nodded softly. Her only junior brother deserved to pursue his own happiness.

As his senior sister, she had to give him her blessings—yet, each time her junior brother confessed to another girl, a peculiar, complex emotion stirred deep within her heart.

In three thousand years, she had never experienced such feelings.

Ganyu gently smoothed the folds of Jingchen's robe and white coat, speaking softly:

"Junior Brother Jingchen, Tianquan Xing isn't like that independent Keqing. And since you and the Tianquan Star have always gotten along, I believe you'll succeed this time."

A warmth bloomed in Jingchen's heart. Every time his confession failed, Senior Sister Ganyu would comfort him and help him out of that shadow.

"Thank you, Senior Sister Ganyu."

Jingchen walked up the steps of Qunyu Pavilion, gathered his courage, and knocked on the grand doors.

The deep echo of the knock spread into the distance, and Baiwen, one of Ningguang's secretaries, came to open the door.

"Acting Tianshu Xing?! Why have you come today? Are you here to discuss the Liyue Qixing's business with Lady Ningguang?"

"Ah?! I... I just came to talk to Ningguang about some personal matters."

Baiwen smiled knowingly. This Acting Tianshu Xing, Lord Jingchen—most likely he was here to confess to Lady Ningguang.

He often gave her various xianjia mechanisms and privately asked about her preferences.

Indeed, this disciple of the immortals was far beyond any noble or wealthy merchant. A perfect match—talented man, beautiful woman.

"Please follow me."

Jingchen followed Baiwen through the pavilion's corridors. After more than ten minutes, they arrived at Ningguang's bedchamber.

Baiwen gently knocked on the door. From within came a dignified and elegant voice.

"Baiwen, what is it?"

"Lady Ningguang, Lord Jingchen wishes to speak with you privately."

There was a brief silence inside before Ningguang replied calmly:

"Let him come in alone."

Baiwen opened the door and bowed slightly.

"Lord Jingchen, good luck."

"Ah?! Mm... thank you."

Jingchen hurriedly took out a bouquet of Glaze Lilies still glistening with morning dew from his spatial pouch.

He steadied his steps and entered.

Immortal mist swirled around the room, the air filled with ancient fragrance.

Through the hazy veil, Ningguang half reclined gracefully, waving her hand lightly.

"Sit beside me, Jingchen."

Jingchen sat by her side and noticed that Ningguang seemed slightly drowsy today.

Even without makeup, she was breathtakingly beautiful.

When she saw his serious face and the bouquet of Glaze Lilies in his hand, she already guessed his intent.

"Jingchen, what brings you here today?"

"Ningguang, I... I lo—"

Ningguang gently pressed a finger against his lips and shook her head.

"Jingchen, I've always seen you as a younger brother."

Jingchen froze slightly and lowered his head in silence.

Younger brother? Indeed, Ningguang always gave him that feeling—like an older sister.

Especially her voice—it felt so familiar.

"You're not like those noble sons born on Yujing Terrace, nor the young, successful merchants... and I can sense your feelings for me."

"But I do not love those who are limited, nor do I wish to be bound by the limited. I only wish for Qunyu Pavilion to one day tower above all of Teyvat.

That is enough for me. As for matters of love... I do not wish to pursue them now."

Jingchen stood there, at a loss once again. Another confession rejected—this time by someone close to him, someone he'd long been familiar with.

"Forgive me, Lady Ningguang. I... I'm sorry to have disturbed you."

Just as he turned to leave, Ningguang caught hold of his robe.

"Let's pretend this never happened today. I still want to see you as my younger brother."

Jingchen swallowed down his sorrow and forced a smile.

"I... Lady Ningguang, Senior Sister Ganyu needs me for something urgent. Excuse me."

With a small tug, the hem of his white robe tore, half of it left in Ningguang's hand.

Without another word, Jingchen fled from Qunyu Pavilion.

Outside, Ganyu stood beside a pond, gazing at the lotus flowers floating upon it.

Lotus flowers—unstained by the mud they grow in—their fragrance slightly resembled that of Qingxin.

While Ganyu pondered whether to eat lotus or Qingxin tonight, Jingchen came running out of the Pavilion, his expression heavy and stiff.

Seeing him like this, Ganyu quickly stepped forward to comfort him.

"Junior Brother Jingchen, are you alright?"

Jingchen saw that Ganyu was still waiting for him. He couldn't let his senior sister see him embarrassed again.

He forced back his tears and smiled.

"Senior Sister Ganyu, I... I'm fine. Just now... sand got in my eyes. No—my eyes got into the sand."

Ganyu smiled helplessly. Her junior brother, when upset, always spoke nonsense.

She rose slightly on her toes and, as before, gently embraced him.

"Junior Brother Jingchen, it's okay. A nearly perfect boy like you will definitely find his other half someday."

Behind her, Jingchen's hands did not close around her. He dared not hold her back.

Senior Sister Ganyu had always treated him so well.

When he was bullied by Yae Miko, she had skipped work for the first time, traveling all the way from Liyue to Inazuma to stand up for him.

When Keqing rejected him, she had hugged him the same way, softly comforting him.

Sigh... She was too gentle, too kind.

If he confessed to her, she probably wouldn't reject him either.

But—a rabbit doesn't eat the grass by its own burrow. She was his Senior Sister Ganyu; he was her Junior Brother Jingchen.

Forget it. Better to keep things as they are.

After a long while, Ganyu finally released him, still as gentle as ever.

"Do you feel a little better now, Junior Brother Jingchen?"

Jingchen nodded and tried to smile.

"Thank you, Senior Sister Ganyu."

"What are your plans next?"

"I... I think I'll leave Liyue."

"What?! Leave Liyue? Are you going back to Inazuma?"

Jingchen shook his head. Yae Miko in Inazuma, Ningguang in Liyue—both gave him that same warmth and familiarity, yet both had rejected him.

It was time to see somewhere beyond Inazuma and Liyue.

"Senior Sister Ganyu, thank you for everything you've done for me. I want to travel for a while."

Ganyu froze slightly. She wanted to stop him—but as a senior sister, she had to respect his decision.

"Junior Brother Jingchen, I respect your choice."

Jingchen handed her a Qingxin Flower.

"Senior Sister Ganyu, this isn't a real Qingxin—it's a mechanical one I made with the mechanism Master gave me.

It blooms all year round and can make Cryo energy gentler.

Please help me tell Uncle Tian, Master, and my colleagues among the Qixing—farewell."

"Take care on your journey, Junior Brother Jingchen."

Under the setting sun, Ganyu watched the lone figure of Jingchen walking away.

Ripples stirred quietly in her heart.
