Eric's gratitude was obvious as he stood from his chair.
"Thanks a lot," he said, reaching over to clasp his brother's shoulder briefly.
"Merry Christmas, Edward."
"Merry Christmas to you too," Edward replied warmly. "Now go. Don't keep her waiting. And text me later so I know you made it home safe."
Eric headed toward the restaurant's exit, his steps quick and purposeful.
But as he made his way through the dining room, he spotted Victoria near the entrance, having finished her phone call.
She was putting her phone back in her purse, her expression slightly flustered but attempting to maintain her composed appearance.
"Where are you going?" she asked when she saw him approaching.
Eric paused, not wanting to be rude but eager to find Hailey.
"I'm going to get going," he said politely. "On a special day like this, I'd like the two of you to spend time together."
Victoria's expression changed, becoming more urgent.
