Chapter 96 - Chapter 95: Abomination

Abomination — the final antagonist of The Incredible Hulk. His real name was Emil Blonsky, once a decorated special forces operative under General Ross. Tasked with capturing the Hulk, Blonsky willingly subjected himself to the Super Soldier Serum. But even that enhancement wasn't enough — against the raw, godlike power of the Hulk, he was crushed utterly.

Then, Blonsky discovered Bruce Banner's gamma radiation device — the very machine that had created the Hulk. In a reckless act of envy and desperation, he exposed himself to an equal dosage of gamma radiation. The result was irreversible. His human form was obliterated, replaced by a gray-skinned monster of immense size and strength.

From that moment, the Hulk had gained his deadliest rival — Abomination.

At the end of The Incredible Hulk, Abomination was defeated by a rage-empowered Hulk. Only the pleading of Ross's daughter saved him from being crushed to death. Since then, Ross had kept him imprisoned deep within the Raft, fearing that such power could never again be allowed to roam free.

But now, Ross had no choice but to release him — not out of trust, but to prevent Hydra from seizing a weapon even the U.S. military couldn't contain.

Abomination's strength was on par with the Hulk's — a living weapon on the level of a tactical nuclear strike. Even with every fighter in the Raft combined, defeating him was nearly impossible. The Hulk in his base form could match Thor in raw might; Abomination had overpowered that Hulk once. That alone spoke volumes.

Ross had always known that Abomination was a greater danger than Banner. It was Ross himself who had once stood beside the Avengers to bring this creature down and lock him away in the oceanic prison. Even under the Thunderbolt Initiative, Ross never dared to make Abomination part of his expendable team.

"Emil," Ross said firmly, facing the towering figure with calm defiance, "you don't deserve this power. And that's why you'll never be free."

Even now — cornered, exhausted, his bunker shattered — Ross showed no trace of submission. Standing beneath the monstrous shadow, he somehow still seemed unyielding.

Abomination loomed over him, a living engine of destruction. He could have ended Ross's life with a flick of his hand. But he didn't. Despite his monstrous form, Blonsky's human mind was still intact — and filled with bitter purpose.

"Where's the Hulk?" he roared, the sheer force of his voice sending shockwaves through the air.

Marcus stepped forward, his expression unreadable. "Sokovia," he said evenly. "If you move quickly, you might still catch him."

At that, Abomination's reptilian eyes narrowed. The words were bait — and Marcus knew it. If Abomination could reach Sokovia and clash with the Hulk, both monsters might destroy each other. And for Marcus, that was the perfect outcome.

"Sokovia?" Crossbones repeated sharply, realization dawning on his face. He grabbed Marcus by the collar. "Why the hell is the Hulk in Sokovia? What are you planning—?"

His words died with a choking gasp.

Crossbones's eyes widened in disbelief as a blade pierced through his chest from behind — driven not by an enemy, but by his own comrade, the Winter Soldier.

The soldier's right hand pressed firmly against Crossbones's back, and the knife thrust forward — passing through both the metal palm and the man's heart in a single motion.

"W–Winter Soldier… you…" Crossbones croaked, collapsing to his knees, unable to comprehend the betrayal. His vision dimmed as Marcus watched impassively.

Because of the way the strike was made — blade through the palm into the body — Crossbones's blood had mixed with that of the infected Winter Soldier. The virus spread through his bloodstream almost instantly.

The infection was complete.

Elsewhere in the courtyard, the last of Hydra's surviving soldiers fell one after another. Thunder's bioelectric sensing left no room for evasion; under her and Killian's combined assault, the human troops were annihilated in moments.

When the gunfire finally ceased, only a handful remained standing amid the wreckage of the Raft: Abomination, Ross, and Marcus's small, victorious squad.

Abomination tilted his head toward the silent assassin who had struck down his own ally. "You," he rumbled, his deep voice echoing like thunder, "who are you?"

The Winter Soldier didn't answer. Marcus did.

"Just someone Hydra killed," he said calmly. "Nothing more."

The deliberate vagueness carried its own power — an air of mystery that disarmed suspicion. It was a trick Marcus had used before, one that even Nick Fury had once failed to see through.

Abomination grunted but didn't press further. He turned and, with one massive hand, plucked Ross from the ground like a doll. The general didn't resist; he merely met the monster's gaze, eyes hard as steel.

Abomination sneered. "Sokovia," he muttered. "I know that place."

"But you don't know where the Hulk is exactly," Marcus said, his tone almost persuasive — like a salesman offering a deal with the devil. "I could help you find him."

Abomination shook his head, his jagged mouth twisting into a grin. "Unnecessary. I'll tear the world apart until he comes to me. And if I don't find him…" His glowing eyes turned to Marcus. "I'll come back for you."

With that, the creature crouched low and leapt — a shockwave erupting beneath him as he shot into the stormy sky.

He flew two kilometers in a single bound before crashing into the ocean with an enormous splash, vanishing beneath the waves. A heartbeat later, he burst out again, launching himself forward in massive, tidal leaps.

Each impact sent waves surging dozens of meters high.

Ross, still clutched in Abomination's hand, drifted in and out of consciousness — the agony of every landing waking him anew only to be drowned again in pain. Compared to this, any man-made torture would have been merciful.

"Ross being taken complicates things," Marcus murmured, watching the distant silhouette vanish into the rain. He understood why Abomination had taken him — Ross possessed years of experience hunting the Hulk, and Blonsky was shrewd enough to use that knowledge.

For all his monstrous rage, Abomination was still a soldier — methodical, tactical, and lethal.

"If not for his obsession with the Hulk," Marcus thought, "he'd be far more dangerous than I'd like to admit."

Still, this outcome suited him perfectly.

With Abomination heading for Sokovia, the coming conflict would be catastrophic. Chaos would reign.

And amid that chaos, Marcus would move unseen.

A creature with the strength of the Hulk unleashed upon a battlefield already teetering on the brink — what better opportunity could he ask for?

A new storm was rising.

And this one would drown the world.
