Chapter 3 - Lunar Summoning

"I'm here my liege." said a sarcastic Lenore bowing slightly to her commanding officer. Turning towards the childish voice, Lucius is met by a familiar sight. A girl of around nineteen summers with pink hair and scarlet eyes. Her complexion was pale and Lucius regarded the girl as quite a sight for the eyes. She was wearing a uniform for a Heaven's Hand soldier with a blood red book strapped to her right shoulder. The girl was only three years younger than the prince but still acted like a child but this was a common occurrence so he just rolled his eyes at her behaviour.

"Come on, get on." said Lucius, patting his horse's back.

"I have my own horse, you know." exclaimed Lenore, puffing out her cheeks and crossing her arms.

"Oh, come on. You can just sit back and relax while I do everything. This is just a learning experience for you anyway." said Lucius while mounting his horse.

"Fine, your magic is quite cool so I'll come. Not because you told me to." declared Lenore while mounting the pitch black horse called Prize. Lucius was shocked at her willingness to come without more argument.

After a short horse ride to the encroaching enemy platoon of around five hundred by Lucius estimation. The enemies flew the banner of the Legion of the Radiant Sun, a crimson red banner with an emblem of burning sun in its center. This confused him as the Radiant Sun took the brunt of the fighting in the center of the darklands so why they would be down here baffled him. One of the many thoughts racing though head was that they could perhaps be deserters but that theory seemed far fetched.

"Why is the Radiant Sun here?" asked Lenore, puzzled by their appearance.

"Not a clue, suppose we will have to ask." said Lucius, a great smile growing on his face at this perfect opportunity to shake all the rust off his bones. Spurring his horse to move towards the platoon of enemies and stopping in front of them and dismounting his horse while Lenore stayed on top apparently not wanting any part of the battle. Well saying battle is rather far fetched.

"What is the Legion of the Radiant Sun doing down here?" asked Lucius to the soldiers in the front of the platoon. A rather burly and brutish man pushed his way though the crowd of soldiers now pointing their spears in Lucius' direction.

"Two against five hundred highly trained men of the Radiant Sun. Who do you think you are demanding answers from me?" shouted the burly man, laughing through his little show of bravery.

"I suppose that was your answer to my first question, yes?" said Lucius while undoing the strap holding his book in place.

"Like I would tell you anything more. Oh, are you a mage? It won't help you in my overpowering force. Ha!" shouted the burly man once again, showing himself up for his men.

"I'll ask just one more question, my good sir." said Lucius, sarcasm practically dripping from his mouth. The burly man's temple started to twitch at his indifferent attitude.

"Do you have any mages in your service? Asked Lucius while flipping through the pages of his spellbook.

"No, I have no need for those pests." declared the man crossing his arms triumphantly like he'd won some big battle. Lucius just rolled his eyes at the boarish man and selected a spell.

"Very well. May the Lunar night freeze and devour all those who are in my sight." shouted Lucius. Thick mist surrounded the battlefield and a large moon reared its head out of the darkness casting its light on all those it deemed its adversary. The soldiers fell one by one gasping for breath as their lungs froze over and turned to ice. After only a few seconds, the only survivor was the boarish man looking around in horror as the people he called his friends dropped dead, one by one. Lenore was smiling full of glee and clapping her hands at Lucius' might.

"My liege, I suppose you aren't one of Heaven's Three for nothing." exclaimed Lenore.

"Heaven's Three?!" shouted the burly man, now on his hands and knees. Lucius' opinion of him was proved true, he was hoping the man would charge him with reckless abandon but his wish was not to be true unfortunately. This created an opportunity for intel gathering which was one of his least favourite activities because of the amount of stubborn imperials who apparently wish for death.

"Why are you up here when the Radiant Sun is always in the center?" asked Lucius, preparing a spell silently.

"We were to scout and report back how heavy or light the defenses were up here." said the man while sobbing over his dead comrades. All talk apparently was what Lucius was thinking.

"Scouts. How boring." said Lucius while a slim icy blade materialized in his hand. In one swift motion Lucius beheaded the enemy commander. The commander's eyes went wide as his head flew a few feet before landing a few meters away.

"Bhrrr, so cold my liege." exclaimed Lenore with a big smile on her face with one of her canines pointing out though her smile, giving her the look of a wolf pup.

"Oh, shut it. You are far more ruthless than me with that bloody book of yours." snapped Lucius, Lenore only laughed at his retort patting her trusty book. After this they rode back to their camp while chatting about trivial things.
