The hospital gown was a joke.

It was thin, damp with sweat, and fluttered against Kieran's legs like a white flag of surrender. But Kieran wasn't surrendering. Every step through the dense German undergrowth felt like a railroad spike being driven into his cracked ribs. His vision blurred, the concussion making the trees dance in the periphery of his sight, but he kept moving.

Aurielle was out here.

Somewhere in this endless forest.

And if Valentin's men found her first…

Kieran clenched his jaw.

That wasn't going to happen.

Some of his men were already searching the forest, spreading out through different sectors. But Kieran knew Aurielle.

If she saw strangers with guns approaching her, she wouldn't trust them.

She would run.

She would hide.

Aurielle trusted only one person when danger closed in.

Him.

That was why he had come himself.

A branch snapped under his boot.

Kieran froze.

His eyes scanned the forest carefully.
