Chapter 67 - What if she never forgives me?

Summer had spent the entire day pacing down the corridor outside the ICU, her eyes moving to the closed doors from time to time, hoping someone would come out and tell her Hope was being moved out. But hour after hour slipped away, and there was no update about her daughter.

Twenty-four hours passed. Hope was still inside.

The last thread of Summer's patience finally snapped. She thought she needed to talk to Ashton. With hurried steps, she made her way toward his office, with anxiety and suppressed fear churning inside her heart.

A nurse stepped in front of her. "Dr. Ashton isn't in his office. He is in surgery."

Summer's frustration boiled over instantly.

"I came here this morning. He wasn't there," she snapped. "Now again he's not here. What's going on? My daughter has been in the ICU since yesterday, and he hasn't even come to see her the whole day. Is he avoiding my daughter?"

Her eyes burned, her chest rising and falling unevenly as fear cracked through her anger.
