"But—" Danis tried to argue. The moment he met that icy, warning glare, the words died in his throat. With obvious reluctance, he lowered his gun, turned, and strode out of the room.
Silence fell.
Chloe remained rooted where she stood, staring at the man on the sofa. 'So this is Mr. Ross.'
She had thought about who this mysterious, powerful man was. But never, not even in her wildest guesses, had she thought he was the same injured man she had found bleeding on a street that night.
Her heart raced.
"You. Come here." He beckoned with a lazy curl of his fingers.
Chloe hesitated. Fear clawed at her chest. Every instinct screamed at her to turn around and run, but she didn't dare defy him. Swallowing hard, she forced herself forward, step by cautious step.
Her eyes flicked to the man lying unconscious on the table.
Blood stained his face. He didn't move.
