Summer arrived at work and headed straight for Gideon's office. She lifted her hand to knock, but stopped when voices drifted through the closed door.
"Landon Lloyd has transferred his company to Rosewood Empire," Matthew said. "It's the biggest news today."
Summer froze. She couldn't believe it. Landon had actually given up the company he had built with years of effort and sacrifice.
She knew he had been facing financial trouble. But hadn't he said everything was under control? What had happened to push him into such a drastic decision?
She had been so consumed by her own problems that she hadn't paid attention to what was happening around her, let alone noticed Landon's situation.
"Are you certain?" Gideon's voice followed. "Why would an empire that large be interested in a small company like his? Are you sure there is no mistake?"
Summer leaned closer, straining to catch every word.
