Chapter 192 - The truth is buried in his memory

"What?" Adrian's astonishment only grew. The image he had formed of Summer no longer aligned with what he was hearing. "Why did they separate?" he asked, unable to mask his curiosity.

If she and Gideon had divorced years ago, why had she returned now? And why pretend to be his fiancée?

The questions tangled in his mind.

The detective studied him carefully before speaking. "What I'm about to say won't be pleasant," he warned. "Are you ready to hear it?"

"I need to know," Adrian replied firmly. No matter how harsh it might be, he was willing to face it. But this uncertainty was killing him. He needed to know the truth.

"Very well." The detective gave a small nod. "I'll tell you everything."

He slid a photograph across the table. In it, Summer was holding a baby in her arms, her face glowing with pure joy. "Six years ago, she was planning her daughter's first birthday celebration."

Adrian picked up the photo. For a moment, he simply stared.
