Chapter 5 - Chapter 5: A Life-Saving Favor

"Thank you, doctor, for saving my life!"

The family member of the patient was a man in his thirties, and after speaking, he wanted to kneel down and kowtow to Rosalind Langdon.

The sound of his knee hitting the floor startled everyone.

She hurriedly helped him up, gently pulling him up with her hands, while comforting him verbally.

"Don't do this, I'm a doctor, it's my duty."

At the same time, a fragment of her personally performing surgery suddenly appeared in her mind.

These memories played back like scenes.

The sterilization process, the angle of the blade when opening the abdomen, the rhythm of the suturing...

All clearly displayed.

Despite these procedures being things she had never encountered, she was able to skillfully perform them during surgery.

Could she really perform these operations?

Many steps she had never even seen before, let alone personally executed.

Yet in the imagery, she not only performed them but did so with precision and effectiveness.

Rosalind Langdon rushed into the office eagerly, quickly opened her laptop, and swiftly wrote down the treatment steps from her mind.

The more she wrote, the more excited she became, increasingly amazed by the scientific nature of these techniques.

Every single one was not just efficient, but practically advanced designs!

While fervently recording, her thoughts gradually became clearer.

Until in the end, when she had sorted out key points one by one, she couldn't help but laugh out loud.

"This time, we've definitely won!"

The image halted abruptly here.

The system explained: "This is an additional privilege that can only be used under special permission, and this exception can only happen once, please be informed."

Selene Kane nodded.

"I understand, as long as the final result is correct."

"Since it's something we have to experience sooner or later, it should be given greater meaning. It's not about giving birth for the sake of pregnancy, but to make this world a better place."

The system proceeded to supplement the explanation.

"This breakthrough technology in the domain of fertility research, once studied and promoted by Rosalind Langdon, rapidly disseminated globally, thoroughly solving the major issue of amniotic fluid embolism that could initially cause maternal sudden death."

Before finishing, the system's tone slightly altered.

"However, if the current host cannot successfully deliver, all related technological achievements and contributions thus far will be rendered void."

Selene Kane nodded slightly and responded gently.

"I understand the risk and weight of this."

Her brow suddenly relaxed, and she asked: "By the way, how long does it take to give birth over here?"

She was secretly worried, what if it was also a ten-month period.

For her, time was really too short, and what could be done was too limited.

The system answered: "It doesn't require ten months; it only takes five months for the beast child to be born."

It paused for a moment, then added.

"Moreover, we are equipped with the highest level of medical production pods, thoroughly eliminating the pain that natural childbirth might bring. Additionally, the body of the mother can be restored to optimal health within seven days postpartum, fully capable of conceiving again."

Upon hearing this, Selene Kane's fingers trembled slightly, and her heart suddenly felt a bit weak.

No matter how you hear it, this sentence carried a strange feeling, making it somewhat uncomfortable.

However, when she recalled seeing those two women who had just given birth...

Back then, their complexion was pale, their bodies looking weak and frail.

Comparing their current rosy complexion and vigorous spirit, her mind was slightly reassured.

"At least for now, my efforts and contributions are not without meaning."

At this moment, a gentle voice came from outside the door.

"Female Master, what's going on?"

It turned out to be Caleb Shaw lightly knocking on the door, having waited outside for quite a while.

As her Beast Husband, he felt the responsibility to be concerned about the Female Master's current state.

The door was suddenly pulled open from the inside.

Revealing the radiant smile on Selene Kane's face.

"Nothing!"

However, Caleb Shaw's eyes slightly flickered.

"Then just now... whom were you talking to?"

Standing at the door, he didn't venture in rashly.

Instead, he continued with a wary gaze to scrutinize the Female Master.

Selene Kane's heart skipped a beat, oh no.

She hadn't fully adapted to speaking within her mind yet.

Just earlier, she unwittingly let some of her inner thoughts slip out.

"Hahaha," to cover up her indiscretion, she laughed and made a joke, "I was just chatting with the baby."

Caleb Shaw: "?"

This person changes like the weather.

"Female Master, the fleet just sent word, requesting your urgent presence at the meeting... I must take my leave, is that okay?"

Selene Kane turned her head slightly, her gaze fleetingly passed over Caleb Shaw's exposed hand.

That deep scar.

This mark was left the first time the original owner lost her temper uncontrollably.

That time, the original owner was inexplicably furious, brandishing a dagger.

And Caleb Shaw, despite everything, rushed forward to protect Henry Sheridan, standing defenseless beside him. Lifting his arm to minimize the risk of the other being hurt.

"Go on."

Caleb Shaw's previously tense body suddenly relaxed.

He lifted his head slightly, a trace of surprise across his eyes.

He never expected today's Female Master to be so understanding and agree readily.

After hesitating for a few seconds, he cautiously spoke: "I will return immediately when this task is completed."

He saw the furrowed brow of the person opposite him, throat naturally forming a lump.

"No later than ten o'clock tonight, I promise I'll be back."

Before, he often returned late due to task delays, causing Selene Kane to flare up.

She even used her Female Master rights at one point, to transfer him to a rear position.

Yet this time, Selene Kane's reaction was somewhat unexpected.

She tilted her head, showing a hint of surprise on her face.

"Ten o'clock?"

Caleb Shaw's heart suddenly tightened; does she think it's too late?

Indeed, her temperament has always been high-spirited and extremely impatient, preferring things done at once.

These time arrangements for today were simply impossible under normal circumstances.

Caleb Shaw clenched his fists again, then gradually relaxed.

Selene Kane leisurely donned her clothes, a sleek white tailored long dress that complemented her slender and graceful waistline.

Her back featured an elegant line, a slight protrusion of the butterfly bone.

She exuded a faint melancholy aura.

"It takes four hours to jump across the stars from here."

"Are you planning to return immediately after going?"

"Female Master, I assure you I will return on time."

Actually, his deputy was very capable.

Unfortunately, he was a staunch bachelor without a partner to receive full authoritative endorsement.

Because of this, those subordinates always held a subtle disdain for him, never fully trusting him wholeheartedly.

This mission, to put it bluntly, was simply a formality: to show up and awe those subordinates.

Not much needs to be done; mere presence alone accomplishes the goal.

After speaking, Caleb Shaw quietly stood by.

And Selene Kane rubbed her slightly sore neck, followed by a yawn.

Then she suddenly asked: "Where is Henry Sheridan now?"

This sudden question came without warning.

The abrupt shift made Caleb Shaw's whole body tense up.

The relaxed expression just moments ago also froze along with it.

Not arguing further, not even contemplative, he simply fell to his knees with a thud.

"It's my fault."

He lowered his head, his tone full of remorse.

"I can stay if it displeases you, even if you choose to act, it doesn't matter."

"I harbor no complaints."

Saying this, he closed his eyes.

If he had known earlier, he shouldn't have held out any hope for her.

Just then, he naively thought she might be a little different; it was simply laughable.

She's not a good person at all.

Thankfully, he hadn't truly wavered yet.
