Zane opened his mouth.

Then he stepped back half a step and knelt on one knee before Selene Kane.
His back was straight, but his head slightly bowed, showing respect.
In the hall, you could hear a pin drop.
He was so tall that even kneeling, he could look directly into her eyes.
That gaze was soft and bright, gentle enough to melt frost.
