Chapter 19 - chapter 19

The next day, I woke up feeling all bed. I opened my eyes, and there was Rudy! He had a notebook in his hand, smiling. He wrote on the page and looked at me. He wanted to learn how to make breakfast! I asked where Emy and Ethan were. He wrote down that they were both gone and would be back at 4:00 pm, so I got up and made my way down to the kitchen with him. While walking in the hallway, he tapped my back, and when I turned, I saw a question in his notebook. He asked how I got the scar on my back when I read that I know I couldn't tell him how I got it because I couldn't bring up my past with him, so I said

"no sé" (Meaning I dont know)

Although I knew how I got my scar, I didn't want to share my past with him; however, he would eventually find out. When we got to the kitchen, I told him to get the ingredients. While he was getting the eggs, I asked him to grab the hot dogs, too. When I looked back at him, he had a confused expression. But I told him to trust me on this, and he did. When I turned on the stove and added oil to the pan, I cracked four eggs and added them as the pan heated. As soon as the eggs hit the pan, I began to mix the yolk and the egg whites while they were cooking. Rudy came up to make with his notebook, then he wrote.

"What are we making?" After he said, I told him

"We're making scrambled eggs with a hot dog."

When I said that, he looked at me with a big smile on his face, as if he had heard or eaten this before. When I asked if he had eaten this before, silence filled the room. He hung his head, tears welling in his eyes, and my heart sank. Confused and scared, I pulled him closer, feeling his sorrow. And asked him, "What's wrong?" but couldn't stop crying for a few minutes. He calmed himself down and wiped away his tears. I asked him, "Food's done, but could I ask you something?" When I said that, he got his notebook and wrote "sure you can." Then I said

"Did you eat this with your parents? If so, do you remember where you were?" When I said this, he paused. I added, "You don't have to answer if you'd prefer not to. I was just curious." After I said that, I was about to get up, then he started writing, so I sat back down. Then, a while later, he finished, and I read what he had written in his note.

"The reason why I started crying was that what you made was the last meal I had with my parents that night. I was happy to be with them, and I never wanted to leave them, but I couldn't talk, so the day that they took me away from my parents, I tried to scream for them, but I couldn't, but that night, I remember my parents talking about the previous time CPS came to the house and how they took my older brother that i have never met and went i ask my mom on a piece of paper i if will ever meet him al she said was look For a boy by the name of Emmanuel Villalobos so thats my main goal" As I read this, one thought consumed my mind: "I don't think he knows my real name. He only knows my nickname, and that's it." While I was lost in these thoughts, he looked at me, wrote something in his notebook, and asked if I knew who he was. I simply replied, "No, I don't," but I knew what I said was a mistake. I mean, I know Rudy is just 10 years old, but I didn't want him to know my side of the past, but I knew I messed up.
