Chapter 211: This club is doomed
Machiko clenched her fists nervously against her chest, her knuckles whitening. Her once rosy lips turned pale, and the brightness in her eyes dimmed completely, as if she had just suffered a devastating life blow.
"S-sorry! I can't do it!" Machiko shook her head with a trembling, tearful voice.
"How do you know you can't if you haven't tried?" Kouya frowned.
'Besides, I haven't even said what I want you to help with yet. You're rejecting me way too fast!'
"Th-that kind of thing, how could I possibly agree to that?!"
After shouting this out with all her might, Machiko covered her mouth, eyes glistening with tears, and ran off as fast as she could.
Even though she had agreed to help, there was no way she could do something that terrifying!
"..."
Kouya's teeth ached.
'Aren't you a member of the student council?'
'All I asked was for you to say a few good words to the president on my behalf. Why are you acting like I asked you to do something world-ending?'
'If my reputation at school wasn't so bad, I wouldn't even need your help!'
'It's just talking! Why does it look like I did something unspeakable to you?'
Several students who hadn't gone to rest yet came to the hallway to watch the commotion curiously.
They saw Machiko covering her mouth, eyes wet with tears, then looked at Kouya standing not far away with his usual "fierce" expression — and instantly, the truth seemed clear to everyone.
"Oh no! The campus delinquent is targeting another classmate!"
Kouya twitched his lips and looked at the gossiping girl.
'Come here, I'll give you a ten-month no-period buff!'
"That's the class rep from Class 2, right? Poor thing."
"I know that guy. He used to charge protection fees outside the girls' restroom."
Kouya's face darkened. His sharp glare swept over the whispering onlookers, and they immediately shut up and scattered like birds.
Out of the corner of his eye, he caught sight of a familiar figure walking away — she seemed angry.
'Ah, I really want to explain.'
'She was already upset at lunch. Now that she's seen me make Machiko cry, she's probably even angrier.'
'But seriously, I didn't even bully her!'
'I just can't understand how their brains work! (╯‵□′)╯︵┻━┻!'
...
By the time he returned to class, it was nearly time for the next lesson. A few girls were comforting Machiko, while Vigne sat upright at her desk as Kouya passed by.
"Um, about earlier..."
"Kouya-kun, class is about to start. Please speak after the lesson," Vigne said seriously.
'So she really is mad.'
The afternoon classes dragged on in boredom.
Before long, it was already the second period.
Kouya lazily gazed out at the sunny sky, waiting for the bell to ring.
Then suddenly, a familiar poking sensation pressed against his back.
"Poke poke poke—"
Once, twice, three times.
'That rhythm and strength could only belong to the slacker angel Gabriel.'
The useless angel handed him a sticky note with four words:
"Don't leave after class!"
'Hey, what's with that delinquent tone?'
'Are you planning to drag me into an alley for protection money?'
Kouya: "What for?"
"Hmph, why ask so much? Of course I've got business with you!"
...
Moments later, the bell rang.
Once the teacher left, the classroom's dull atmosphere burst back to life. Some students went to part-time jobs, others to club activities — within moments, half the class had cleared out.
Vigne packed her bag but didn't seem to be leaving.
Kouya approached her.
Vigne kept her serious face: "Kouya-kun, do you need something? I have work soon."
'What's with that cold tone!'
'It's not even my fault! (╯‵□′)╯︵┻━┻!'
"At lunch, I wanted to ask Machiko to speak to the student council for me," Kouya explained, placing the club application form on Vigne's desk. "But before I could even finish, she ran off crying."
"...Is that so?"
'Of course it is! What else would you think happened?'
'I'm not so low that I'd force Machiko to do anything indecent!'
'If I wanted to take a girl to a hotel, I could just lure that red-haired idiot with a rainbow pineapple bun!'
'If one bun isn't enough, two will do the trick.'
"Machiko does tend to overthink..." Vigne's tone softened a little. She picked up the application form. "As for the student council request... let's go take a look."
Once everyone gathered, Vigne said:
"Before we head to the student council, we need to discuss something first — the club president. Any suggestions?"
When applying for a club, the president and vice president must be decided. Though, for a tiny group like theirs, it didn't matter much.
"How about Raphiel as president?" Vigne suggested.
"No," Raphiel shook her head. "My only duty is to protect Lady Satania. I don't have time for anything else."
"Don't say that," Vigne sighed, glancing around at Gabriel, Satania, and Rikka — and looking even more helpless.
"If there are no objections, then I'll take the role."
Once the president was settled, Satania immediately raised her hand.
"What about me! I'll be the vice president! The great Lady Satania cannot be under anyone — especially not that lazy angel Gabriel!"
Vigne didn't even flinch. "All in favor of Satania as vice president, raise your hand."
Rikka and Raphiel raised theirs.
Satania's smug expression twitched as she looked at Kouya, puffing her cheeks. "Servant! Are you betraying me?!"
'Betraying your sister!'
'I never said I'd support you in the first place!'
"Then, all in favor of Gabriel as vice president, raise your hand," Vigne said with a light cough.
Still only Rikka and Raphiel.
In the end, after the votes were tallied, Kouya somehow ended up as vice president.
'Are you kidding me?!'
'How the hell did I become vice president?!'
'This club is doomed!'
...
The Student Council — officially the Student Autonomous Committee — manages student affairs and activities. It holds significant authority: club approvals, room assignments, and budget allocations.
Kouya had expected trouble from the council, given how many problem girls were in their group. Aside from Vigne and Raphiel, the rest were pure chaos. Gabriel herself would call them a can of salted fish.
But strangely, they got approved with ease — even securing a clubroom.
When they walked out of the student council office, everyone looked a little dazed, but quickly brushed it off and ran off excitedly to see their new room.
The long-unused classroom was far from clean — dust everywhere, chairs and tables scattered about.
It took them over half an hour to get it in order.
"Alright, that's it for today," Vigne said, wiping sweat from her forehead with a satisfied smile. "I'll treat everyone to some cold drinks!"
