DESMOND
She fought to catch her breath, rubbing the spot again as a lone tear slipped down her cheek. For a long moment… The only sound filling the room was her ragged coughing. Neither of us spoke.
My mind, however, had already moved on. If Desmond wasn't keeping Sophia inside the palace… Then where the hell was he hiding her?
After a minute, her coughing finally eased. She was standing straight now, though one hand still rubbed the back of her head.
"What if..." she rasped, sniffing between words. "What if I find a way..." She paused, searching my face for any reaction. "I can try to find her."
I threw her a deadly glare. "If that were all I needed, I have dozens of people who could do the same." I took a slow step toward her. "What I need is answers, Gwen."
She sniffed again before taking a cautious step closer. "I can..." This time, her voice held a little more confidence. "If that's what you want... I'll find where the King is hiding her."
