Chapter 5 - CHAPTER FIVE

Leah was very confident in that regard. She stood up and went to pick up the ropes on the ground. Barbie would not make it out alive today, Leah swore to herself. Suddenly, she heard the turn of the doorknob. She instantly turned, to find Barbie trying to make a run.

Leah grumbled, 'Oh no, you don't!!'. She rushed to the door. By the time Barbie had unlocked the door and pulled the keys out, Leah had reached out to drag her back by the hair. However, Barbie immediately retaliated by back-kicking Leah, then turned when Leah had eased her grip on her hair. She pushed Leah back away from herself. Leah stumbled back and fell. By this time, she had dropped the lighter. Oh no! The small ball of flame immediately spread to the petrol-soaked paper boxes. Instantly, the fire roared. Scared out of her wits, Leah shot up and made for the door. Waking up from her trance, Barbie quickly opened the door, went out and locked the door with the keys she had in hand.

'Barbie open the door!!', Leah yelled and banged the door from the inside, 'Barbie let me out!!'

Barbie was finally able to catch her breath. She was weak and exhausted. She had previously mustered all her strength to make it out alive.

Inside, the fire had one fourth of the room. Leah became terrified; in no time, the fire would get to her and she would…

'Open this door, Barbie!!! Let me out!!!', Leah banged the door with all her might.

Barbie snapped out of her trance and realized that she had locked Leah in the blazing room. She laughed to herself; wasn't this supposed to be her death? She heard Leah bang the door again.

'Barbie let me out!', Leah yelled angrily and panicky, 'Open this door!'

Barbie looked at the door and scoffed, 'Open the door? So, you can pull me in rather and kill me?'

At that point, the hot blazing fire had wrapped two fourth of the room and was fast catching up to her. The thick smoke filled her lungs and she began to cough.

'Barbie, please let me out.', she became polite, 'I'm really sorry okay. I beg of you…spare me just this time. Please!'

Not getting a response, Leah became agitated. She cried sorrowfully and unceasingly muttered 'Open the door'.

On the other side of the door, Barbie who had taken a step to run away, halted in her tracks. Leaving Leah in there would mean that Leah would die… Her heart began to soften. But wait, wasn't this the same situation Leah wanted her to be in? If it was her (Barbie) in the blazing room, would Leah feel pity for her and not let her die in there? Barbie was deeply conflicted. She heard the pitiful cries coming from the blazing room. She lowered her head in deep thought.

Leah couldn't bear to face the flames of the fire. She closed her eyes and began to pray earnestly, 'God, do not turn your face away from me. I apologize for all my misdeeds. Please, give me one last chance.'

Soon, she heard the doorknob turn. God had heard her prayers! Finally, the door unlocked. Leah almost immediately opened the door and rushed out. Outside, she panted heavily. She had narrowly escaped death. She raised her head and looked at Barbie thankfully. Looking into Leah's teary eyes, Barbie couldn't help but feel guilty for initially locking her in there.

'Thank you so much, Barbie.', Leah cried out.

Barbie stood there quietly, simply staring at Leah. Leah straightened up and walked up to Barbie. She hugged Barbie tightly. Barbie could feel the terror in Leah's heart.

'I owe you a lot, Barbie. You saved me 5 years ago and you've saved me today as well.', Leah muttered and cried. Barbie couldn't help but hug Leah back. However, the next moment, Leah's eyes flashed with malevolence.

'Bitch!', Leah quietly scoffed.
