Chapter 3: Konan, Impaled

1,312 Words

In an instant, a pure white short sword materialized. Konan held it vertically.

Though made entirely of paper, it was no less sharp or hard than a real metal blade.

Clang!

The next moment, the sharp black receiver struck the flat of the paper blade.

Alex, wrapped in the innermost layer of the sword, felt a powerful shock. But the blade was strong; it wasn't pierced by the receiver.

Using the rebound force, Konan accelerated backward.

"Hmph. Don't think you can run." Obito snorted, his attack not pausing for a second as he pursued her.

Konan remained silent, her eyes still fixed on Obito with killing intent.

The moment she landed back on the water, she adjusted her stance. Her right foot stomped hard on the surface, sending out a large ripple.

Then, like an arrow released from a bow, she shot toward Obito, who was bearing down on her from above.

CLANG! A heavy, metallic collision echoed.

The pure white paper sword and the pure black metal rod clashed violently, sending sparks flying.

The shockwave from their impact instantly cleared the dense rain from the air around them.

In mid-air.

White and black were clearly defined.

Obito stared at Konan, who was only inches away. The red light in his right eye flickered.

The three tomoe in his pupil spun lazily.

Unfortunately for him, Konan gave him no opportunity to cast a genjutsu. She refused to meet his gaze.

"Well... this just makes it a little more troublesome."

Obito suddenly pushed, flinging Konan away, and then quickly formed hand seals.

"Fire Style: Great Fireball Jutsu!"

A massive fireball plummeted from the sky toward Konan.

Konan landed on the sea and quickly dodged to the side, evading the attack.

BOOM! The massive fireball crashed into the water.

Like a goddess scattering flowers, clumps of superheated flames burst outward.

"Water Style: Water Wall!"

Konan stopped, quickly crouched, and slammed her hands on the water's surface. A wall of water rose, blocking the incoming flames.

Before she could stand, an even more terrifying heat wave attacked from above.

The sky seemed to be stained red as the light of the fire blazed.

A vast sea of fire poured down.

All the rain was vaporized by the extreme temperature. Tssss... It turned into a cloud of white steam.

"Fire Style: Great Fire Annihilation!" Obito's cold voice pierced the inferno, reaching Konan's ears.

She looked up, her vision completely filled by the rolling, burning sea of fire.

Her orange pupils seemed to reflect the dancing flames.

Her soaked Akatsuki robe began to steam, and her purple hair began to curl from the heat.

Inside the sword, Alex watched in shock.

"Holy hell. This is way more terrifying than watching it on TV."

This apocalyptic scene deeply shook him, having only just arrived in the Naruto world.

At the same time, his heart pounded with excitement, but not envy.

If he survived this, sooner or later, he too would grasp this power, or perhaps something even stronger.

"So, Konan, how are you going to handle this?"

The Great Fire Annihilation was terrifying, but Alex didn't believe Konan, a Kage-level shinobi, would be unable to counter it.

Poof! Konan's entire body suddenly exploded, turning into thousands of paper sheets that rushed upward into the sea of fire.

The collision of white and red.

It was like a white ocean, equal in volume to the inferno, surging forward.

The paper sword containing Alex was inside that paper sea, following the countless other sheets into the flames.

"As expected of Sister Konan's special paper ninjutsu. It fears neither water nor fire. Amazing..."

Even surrounded by red-hot flames, he didn't feel the slightest bit of heat.

Including him, not a single piece of paper was ignited by the fire.

On the sea's surface.

More and more white papers, trailing whisps of flame, burst out of the inferno.

They flew to one spot and, at a speed visible to the naked eye, reformed into Konan's body.

"Hmph. Your paper jutsu has its merits. But..."

Obito immediately shot toward Konan, roaring, "It doesn't change the fact that you will die today!"

Konan was fearless. She gripped the paper sword again and charged him.

For a time, the clang of metal echoed across the sea.

The two fighters moved like black blurs, constantly leaping and colliding across the water.

Alex felt his perspective shifting rapidly.

One second he was flying into the sky, the next he was skimming the sea.

The world spun. It was dizzying.

He felt like he was on a high-speed roller coaster, the scenery blurring past. This sense of weightlessness and sudden turning was more thrilling than a drop tower.

Fortunately, Alex's body was paper. Aside from the novel stimulation, he felt no discomfort.

The battle between Kage-level experts was swift and deadly.

Konan and Obito weren't just trading physical blows. They were using their best ninjutsu, aiming for vital points.

Sheets of paper and blasts of fire collided, canceled each other out, and rained down on the water.

Alex, meanwhile, dutifully played the part of a weapon, daring not to make a single move that might distract Konan.

"Is that all your paper jutsu can do?"

In mid-air, Obito used his black receiver to bat away a giant paper shuriken. He landed on the sea but did not press the attack.

The water around him was littered with the paper he had struck down.

Obito's gaze was emotionless as he stared at Konan, who had also landed ten meters away.

After the fierce battle, he showed no signs of injury.

Even his breathing was steady.

He had seen all her paper jutsu creations. They were surprising, but they posed no threat to him.

Konan, on the other hand, had several new cuts on her robe, and her breathing was ragged.

The toll on her was obvious.

Even a Kage-level shinobi's chakra reserves were no match for Obito, who possessed Hashirama's cells and their regenerative capabilities.

Swish! Swish! Swish!

Suddenly, the white papers scattered on the sea burst into action.

Like spinning metal discs, they shot from all directions toward Obito, emitting a sharp, cutting sound.

They sealed off all his escape routes.

It was sudden, fast, and unexpected, giving him no time to react.

Pfft! Pfft! Pfft!

Before Obito could respond, all the paper sheets had precisely sliced into his body.

In an instant, flesh and blood flew, and limbs were severed.

Seeing this, Konan took a deep breath, her eyes locked on the bloody mess, her expression still tense.

Although he had fallen into her trap, she didn't believe this man, who called himself "Madara," would die so easily.

Alex didn't believe it either. "Hey, hey, hey. Obito, where's your intangibility? How could you die just like that?"

Poof! The next second, the splattered flesh and blood exploded into a puff of white smoke and dissipated.

"He's not dead, of course!" Although Alex was certain Obito wouldn't die so easily, he still felt a twinge of regret.

Why couldn't Obito just die peacefully?

Konan felt the same regret, but the fight had to continue. While remaining defensive, she had to find Obito's real body.

She scanned the area. Just as she turned her head slightly, intending to look behind her...

A sharp, black receiver suddenly shot out from beneath the water at her feet.

Like a viper hiding in the shadows, it finally bared its venomous fangs, striking straight for Konan's throat!

The other end was held by a pale right hand.

The arm was covered by a black sleeve.

It was Uchiha Obito.

He had, at some point, hidden underwater, waiting for Konan to be distracted. He launched his sudden, deadly strike.

In a flash, the black receiver, with a sickening squelch, plunged straight through Konan's throat and out the other side.
