Chapter 50 - 49

This young man named Lynt… it only took him a few days.

In just a few days, he tinkered out iron contraptions that could pin down and rub these powerful Mutants, who usually walked sideways, on the ground.

This realization sent a chill down the spine of Magneto, the former Mutant leader.

In the observation room.

Lynt, holding a cup of coffee, and Raven, beside him, watched the miserable wailing of the former Brotherhood members on the monitor, nodding in satisfaction.

"See? This is what you call armament."

Lynt took a sip of coffee, pointing at the Toad Man on the screen, who was twitching from electric shocks.

"Superpowers are a good knife, but with only a knife, you're just a savage with a weapon.

What I want is a special forces unit armed to the teeth from head to toe, capable of kicking open the gates of hell, not a pack of wild dogs that only bite instinctively."

A glint of surprise flashed in Raven's sapphire-blue eyes; she looked at Lynt, this man's way of thinking was always different from all the Mutants she knew.

Just then, there was a knock on the office door.

The new young secretary poked half her head in, her face a little pale:

"Mr. Lin… Mr. Lin, there's a lady here to see you outside, and she's very angry. She says she's… Director Eric's daughter."

Lynt and Raven exchanged glances.

Wanda had just finished her "in-depth coaching" this morning and was tired and asleep.

So, it must be… The curve of Lynt's lips was irrepressible.

It was truly like someone sending a pillow when one was sleepy, and an electric, fully charged pillow at that.

"Let her in."

The next second, the office door was violently pushed open by an invisible force, slamming against the wall with a loud bang.

A girl wearing a black punk leather jacket, with a full head of emerald-green hair, and eyes as untamed as a lone wolf of the wilderness, strode in.

The moment she entered, her gaze, like two knives, fixed firmly on Magneto, her eyes mixed with anger, disappointment, and a hint of grievance that even she herself hadn't noticed.

polaris, Lorna Dane.

"You really are here!"

Lorna's voice was cold and sharp, as if tempered in ice.

She pointed a finger at Magneto, as if condemning a turncoat traitor.

"The great Magneto! The hope of Mutants!

Are you very honored to be a doorman for a human now?!"

Boom—!

Under emotional agitation, her terrifying magnetic field instantly erupted!

In the office, everything metallic went wild!

The fluorescent lights on the ceiling buzzed with electric current, flashing madly!

The steel frame of the desk groaned and creaked, visibly beginning to twist!

Paperclips and staples on the desk flew up with a whoosh, like a swarm of metallic locusts, dancing wildly in the air!

The air was instantly filled with a burnt smell of ozone!

Magneto's face darkened, and he raised his hand, about to forcibly suppress it.

Raven also instantly tensed her body, ready to act.

But just as the metal structure of the office groaned under the strain, on the verge of completely twisting into scrap—

A hand.

It was so abrupt, so undeniable, pressing down on Lorna's trembling shoulder.

Buzz!

The metallic groaning of the entire office was as if someone had pressed a mute button.

The lights that had been flashing wildly a second ago returned to stable.

The paperclips, staples, metal pens… suspended in mid-air, seemed to have had all their strength drained, clattering to the floor.

The World was dead silent.

Lorna froze completely.

She could feel that the violent power within her, enough to overturn a tank, had slammed into an unshakeable dam, being forcibly and unreasonably blocked back!

How could this be?!

She turned sharply, meeting a smiling face.

"Little girl, being so hot-tempered, your endocrine system can easily get out of whack."

Lynt looked down at the green-haired kitten in front of him, whose fur was bristling, the smile on his lips devoid of any warmth.

His eyes were like a Wall Street wolf spotting a high-quality stock about to plummet, which could make him a fortune.

His hand on her shoulder, though it seemed to exert no force, made her feel as if she were being crushed by a mountain.

Last night's "in-depth exchanges" with the three Valkyries were not in vain; his physical strength had been elevated by a notch, and enduring this level of magnetic field impact, apart from his internal organs feeling a bit numb from the vibration, outwardly… he felt no pressure at all.

"Don't be nervous, Miss Lorna."

Lynt withdrew his hand, even taking the opportunity to lightly stroke her eye-catching green hair; the sensation was actually quite pleasant.

He spoke in a tone like evaluating company assets:

"Your magnetic field power output fluctuates too much; the standard deviation is severely over the limit.

If you continue to let this happen, it can easily cause company property damage and friendly casualties. According to the employee handbook, this will all be deducted from your father's salary."

"You…"

Lorna trembled with anger; this feeling of being completely suppressed and analyzed as a technical malfunction was more unbearable than being directly beaten!

"You're asking for it!"

She growled, and the light in her silver-green pupils flashed again, attempting to reactivate her ability!

But Lynt just took a step forward, extended his arm, and directly pulled her into his embrace, forcibly suppressing her power, which was about to erupt again, with his body.

The action was rough but effective.

"See, this is the problem."

Lynt released her, spread his hands, a look on his face that said, 'See, I told you so.'

"Your ability is like a Ferrari with only an accelerator and no brakes, and it's leaking oil.

It looks intimidating normally, but once you drive it on the road, you'll either send yourself to the grave or send someone else there."

He turned his head to look at Magneto, who was beside him, his face ashen, so embarrassed he could dig a three-bedroom, one-living-room apartment with his toes.

"Director Eric, regarding your daughter's situation, as a guardian and company executive, you should have submitted a detailed risk assessment report.

But it seems you don't have any good solutions yourself."

Magneto's old face flushed red and then pale.

How could he not have thought of a solution?

Lorna was the perfect inheritor of his abilities, but she also inherited his early impulsiveness.

Her power and emotions were inextricably linked, making it impossible to control.

But he never expected that a problem that even he found troublesome would be suppressed by this human boy in such a… such a crude and direct way!

This was no longer just a slap in the face.

This was pressing his, Magneto's, face onto the ground and grinding it back and forth!

"This is… our family matter."

Magneto squeezed out a few words through gritted teeth.

"No."

Lynt retorted unceremoniously,

"From the moment she kicked open my door and posed a substantial threat to my three-thousand-dollar Italian handmade lamp, this became company business."

He couldn't be bothered with old Magneto anymore and refocused his gaze on Lorna.

He looked directly into those green eyes filled with stubbornness and unwillingness, her gaze like a wild cat cornered, yet still baring its claws.

"Listen, green-haired girl." Lynt's voice lowered, carrying a hint of playfulness,

"You have two choices."

"Roll out now. Go back to your broken little circle and continue being your ticking time bomb.

Then pray every day that next time you lose control, you don't send yourself and half a street flying into the sky."

He paused, his gaze sweeping over her taut body curves, as if appraising her.

"Or, stay."

"Accept our 'Magnetic Field Stabilization and Potential Development' project, custom-made for you by Apex Technology.
