On the other side, in the Valley of Souls, after hearing the scream of that little girl, Michael had already entered the haunted house to help her. Inside the house, the darkness was so deep on all sides that even light seemed to die there. Michael tried to feel his powers; he thought he would conjure fire from his fist or bend the direction of the wind, but there was no movement in his body. At that moment, he realized that in the Valley of Souls all his powers had gone dormant, and here he was not a demon slayer, but merely an ordinary human.
Just then, from the upper floor, the same little girl's crying echoed again, but this time it was mixed with a suppressed laugh. Michael started moving toward the stairs when suddenly a terrifying witch with white hair floated through the air and appeared right in front of him. Her face was grotesquely decayed, and in her eyes there was nothing but the silence of death.
