Chapter 84 - After the Meeting

Wanda and Pietro snapped their heads up, their gazes fixed on Shen He.

"Why are you doing this?" Wanda's voice was hoarse.

They had been captured by their enemies and were prepared to be experimented on and tortured.

"Revenge is a normal emotion," Shen He said, rising from his seat and walking towards them. "But you need to target the right people. You're just taking the pain you've suffered and inflicting it on innocent people."

"Innocent people?" Wanda suddenly raised her voice. "Is Tony Stark innocent? He invented and built those weapons! Those weapons that kill! These weapon manufacturers are constantly promoting war and chaos! You should really go to Segovia and see how the people there view Tony Stark!"

"Interesting..."

Shen He wasn't angry; he simply looked at the young pair.

"Someone uses a kitchen knife to kill someone, and you blame the knife maker? Even if his original intention was just to cook?"

"This is different!" Wanda bit her lip hard.

"It is indeed different, but not by much," Shen He understood Wanda's thoughts. "Weapons manufacturers are the beneficiaries of war, while you are the victims. Logically, you have reason to hate them. However, Tony is one of the few weapons manufacturers who believes that making weapons is for the sake of defending peace. After realizing he couldn't control where the weapons he made were going, he even shut down the weapons manufacturing industry."

As early as after the events of Iron Man 1, Stark Industries stopped producing and selling weapons.

Now, Tony is dedicated to the field of clean energy, which is also a profitable area.

"…What?"

Wanda was stunned for a moment.

"After he discovered that the weapons he invented fell into the hands of terrorists, he chose to shut down the weapons manufacturing industry immediately. This happened half a year ago." Shen He shrugged. "It seems Hydra didn't tell you this."

"…"

Wanda and Pietro were at a loss for words.

Their hatred for Stark stemmed more from the fear of their childhood experience. The labels of arms manufacturer and war-monger were merely excuses; what they hated and feared was the dud bomb that almost killed them.

"The reason I'm telling you all this is because Nanz told me that you still have goodness in your hearts, it's just been covered by misplaced anger." Shen He paused, then continued, "And we are very clear about the consequences of misplaced anger. Before you decided to take revenge on Stark, did you ever consider that killing him, besides adding to your own guilt, would change anything?"

The answer was obvious: nothing would change.

Even though Stark Industries no longer sold weapons, there were still so many wars in the world.

"Think about it yourselves. Since you are still young and haven't made any real mistakes, you won't be prisoners once you understand." Shen He shook his head slightly and walked to Lincoln. "We've detected that your leader is preparing a retaliatory massacre plan targeting all of Humanity."

"..." Lincoln was completely stunned by these sudden words. After a long moment, he finally reacted, "That's impossible!"

"Chaldea's purpose is to protect Humanity. We observe the future, detect events that could lead to the extinction of the entire civilization, and find solutions." Shen He said calmly, "Your leader is one of them. She was cruelly treated by Hydra, and this resentment has spread to all of Humanity."

"The leader is a very good person!" Lincoln suddenly became agitated. "She gave us a home, you're slandering her!"

"Perhaps she is very good to you,

but what about humanity?" Shen He gave him a final glance and returned to his seat. "I'm not trying to verify anything with you. Your leader is a hidden danger we need to deal with next. This requires your cooperation. Agent Hill, can I leave this to you? Attilan will send people to participate in this matter. I've already spoken with Black Bolt."

"No problem," Agent Hill replied, standing up.

"Wait, wait!" Lincoln took a few steps forward. "'Deal with' what exactly? Are you going to kill our leader for something that hasn't happened yet? Just because of the future you speak of!?"

"Of course not." Shen He seemed to suddenly think of something. "Thank you for reminding me. Everyone, the future detected by Chaldea only represents a possibility and can only be used as information for reference. The actual situation requires us to investigate ourselves. This is a rule that must be remembered when working in Chaldea. I hope no one is foolish enough to treat the future as the truth, because what we are doing is changing the future—dismissed!"

Everyone stood up with their hands behind their backs, waiting for Shen He to pack up and leave before gradually dispersing.

In fact, the main purpose of this meeting was to increase these people's sense of identification and honor with Chaldea.

Shen He wanted them to understand that as fellow protectors of Earth, Chaldea possessed greater strength, a higher level of prestige, and a more respected status than S.H.I.E.L.D.

Just as he walked out of the conference room, under the dim, yellowish light, a young girl in a black tracksuit stood quietly outside the door.

"Jeanne?"

Shen He looked at the girl, who seemed to be waiting for him, with some surprise.

She's actually so eager to learn...

"Is the meeting over?"

"Yes, it's over."

Shen He waited for Jeanne to continue, but she suddenly stopped, silent. She just stared at him with her pale purple eyes, her expression as serious as if she were in battle.

"...Jeanne? What is..."

Even if he was slow, Shen He noticed something was off; he suddenly felt a little faint.

But before he could finish asking, Jeanne suddenly took a deep breath, encouraging herself while quickly grabbing Shen He's hand, saying:

"...Master, come with me..."

Shen He was a little dazed and a little nervous, just looking bewildered as Jeanne pulled him towards her room.

This short distance of just over ten minutes seemed to become incredibly long.

Finally, opening the door, what appeared before Shen He was—

A big dog.

In an instant, the surrounding environment changed violently.

The humid sea breeze drifted through the air, the sound of waves crashing against the rocks echoing in his ears. Moonlight spilled across the shimmering ocean, giving the seaside a unique charm in the night.

The entire world consisted only of the sea, the moonlight, the rocks, and Jeanne.
