Chapter 5 - Chapter 4: Superpowers

I panted heavily as I saw the corpses of monsters slowly melting just like the ones before.

Looking down at my hand, there was a weapon that appeared from nowhere.

For a moment I stayed silent, trying to process everything, then my lips slowly started to curl up.

Putting my left hand over my face, I let out a giggle.

Hehehe.

Hahahahahaha hahaha hahaha.

I couldn't help myself as I laughed uncomfortably, bending my back like a 3rd-rate anime villain.

But could you really blame me? After all, who wouldn't be happy when they realized they suddenly got superpowers?

Hahahahahaha.

This was so amazing.

No one wanted to stay ordinary, especially as someone who was a big fan of superheroes and had watched so many movies, read so many comics.

This felt like all my daydreams coming true.

Looking down at my right hand, I saw the katana.

Strange, I feel like I have seen it before.

Tilting my head, I started recoiling and soon I remembered.

This design was pretty similar to the katana of the MC of one of my favorite animes.

It was so underrated and only got one season.

Fortunately, I had already finished the light novels, so I don't have to have the regret of not knowing how it ends.

Anyways, as I recalled from Asher's memories, I willed it and the katana turned illusory, vanishing in my hand back into my body. Damn, that was pretty useful.

Well, now what do I do?

Just as I thought that, a white light covered me and before I knew it, I was standing somewhere else.

In front of me there were other people, lots of them. Looking left and right, I was lost for words.

Not knowing what to do.

Just then my vision seemed to blur, someone appeared in front of me.

I blinked, looking up at their face.

Huh, they look familiar. Searching Asher's memories…

My eyes widened — this was Arthur, the older brother of Asher.

His expression didn't look good.

Damn, it looks like the guy is about to kill someone.

I could feel him scanning all over my body as his expression got worse and worse.

Man, I feel scared.

Suddenly his lips opened as he said:

"Who did it?"

Huh…

Who did what???

I was confused, bewildered, and all sorts of things as his eyes were about to drill holes through me.

My head tilted, and I ended up making a "huh?" sound.

I never knew someone could get more mad like that as he put his right hand on my shoulder.

I flinched, wanting to take a step back.

But the guy held me firmly in place as I felt light coming from his hand… wait, that wasn't light.

Suddenly the hand he was holding my shoulder with ignited in crimson flames.

Subconsciously I closed my eyes as I braced for the burning pain — but it never came.

I opened my eyes only to see my upper uniform burning away, yet I didn't feel any pain. I could only feel a slight warmth at best.

But it seemed like the people in front of us were pretty surprised as murmurs spread too.

Those were the crimson flames, right?

I heard they can burn through anything.

My father once told me those flames can even burn other fire itself.

No way!! Are you for real? How's that even possible?!

I could hear many people whisper or exclaim out loud.

But it seemed my supposed brother Arthur didn't care about any of it, as his eyes were on my body. More accurately, on the wounds that were still healing after getting those green energy balls from the monsters I killed.

I could feel them making me want to scratch them.

But I held my impulse back.

His eyes narrowed and his voice was cold as he asked again:

"Who did it?"

This time I felt like if I didn't give him an answer, he would really burn me like a barbecue.

I gulped in nervousness as I looked at the people in front of us, trying to recall from Asher's memories who that guy was.

Arthur moved to the side, giving me a full view.

As I scanned through the people who were wearing the same uniform as my one that was burned, my eyes landed on a pair of eyes that were looking at me.

The guy had white hair and an expression of shock as he looked at me.

There were indescribable emotions in his eyes: shock, surprise… and relief?

Arthur noticed that and looked between us.

Not only Arthur, but the vice principal David also noticed it.

Suddenly a clap of thunder was heard as David appeared in front of the white-haired boy. In his hand a staff appeared, encrusted with golden gems. Slamming it on the ground, he shouted:

"Electromagnetic Shield!"

A transparent barrier filled with electric currents connected to his staff appeared.

Just as it did, a crimson longsword slashed at it.

The resulting shockwave pushed everyone back 2 or 3 steps. Even David was pushed back as his eyes revealed shock.

"Grade 5…" he muttered silently in his heart as his eyes revealed astonishment.

Not only was Arthur Grade 5, but his attack had enough power to push him — a Grade 6 academic — back, even when he was only focused on defending.

Arthur seemed to not care about him at all, as his eyes were solely focused on the frightened white-haired boy whose face had turned pale.

"Arthur… stand down. This is the academy grounds. Take control of yourself."

Arthur didn't flinch as he stated icily:

"Get out of my way, professor."

"Arthur, please listen to me, this is madness."

Arthur's gaze moved, looking directly at David. His voice grew lower and lower as his fury seemed to grow higher and higher.

"GET OUT OF MY WAY."

His blade that was clashing with the invisible barrier ignited in crimson flames as it started cutting — no, more like burning — through it.
