Chapter 26 - Chapter 25

Nami's early childhood was marred by tragedy: pirates took her parents away from her. Her two sisters took her in, surrounded her with care and love, and they lived happily in a cozy family nest.

But their peaceful idyll was shattered when the Arlong Pirates invaded Cocoyasi Village, where Nami lived. The pirates took over the village, turning it into their nefarious Arlong Park, and began to rule over all the inhabitants of East Blue. The evil Arlong, the pirate leader, killed Nami's adoptive mother and then instituted a monthly tribute, turning the lives of the inhabitants into a living nightmare.

Nami's once bright life plunged into the abyss of despair.

Arlong, noticing Nami's talent for drawing sea charts, decided to exploit it for his own selfish ends. He made a deal with her: she could buy her freedom and the village by collecting 100 million beli.

Thus, consumed by a thirst for salvation, Nami became a thief, earning the nickname "Cat Thief." Her agility and cunning were unmatched in the East Blue, with the exception of the "Phantom Thief" Karina.

Her goal was to raise 100 million beli to save everyone she cared about. She believed it was possible, that the light of hope would never go out.

But Arlong was powerful, and he was backed by a corrupt Marine commander. Marines who tried to oppose Arlong were defeated, their ships sinking into the depths of the sea.

The mermaids in the East Blue were superior in strength to humans, and Arlong was invincible. Nami, in despair, resigned herself to her unfair fate, submitting to Arlong's dictates and her own sad reality. She understood that there was only one path left for her.

She knew she could be deceived, but this was her last hope. She couldn't give up while the spark of hope flickered, while there remained a chance of salvation.

"Come on, Nami! We have 23 million left, we can raise 100 million beli to buy everyone back from Arlong!" she told herself, slapping her cheek resolutely.

Despite her young age, Nami had a strong constitution, as if food were more nutritious in this world. Disguised as a merchant ship's employee, she boarded the ship, believing its owner to be wealthy.

With light steps, pushing a cart laden with food, she made her way to the best cabins. Under cover of darkness, she didn't know which room belonged to the captain, but it didn't matter. The people who lived in the luxurious cabins were certainly rich.

She knocked cautiously on one of the doors.

"Who's there?" a soft voice said.

"Dinner has been delivered from the galley, sir. Would you like some?" Nami asked politely.

"A snack? I'm feeling hungry. Thank you for your concern," the voice replied.

Footsteps were heard, the door opened, and a young man with tanned skin and long dark hair cascading behind his head stood before us. His handsome face seemed soft in the dim light of the cabin.

"Please come in," Rodney said, glancing at Nami's face and inviting her inside.

Something wasn't right about this woman, Rodney thought. He was sailing past the village of Cocoyasi on a ship and figured he could take on a mission while he was there. However, he didn't expect to encounter pirates; instead, he found a petty thief.

Nami pushed the food cart back and quickly glanced around the room. Her gaze fell on the bag on the bed that belonged to Rodney.

"Sir, what food would you like to eat?" she asked, smiling.

The food from the galley was quite tasty and came with red wine.

Rodney didn't know that Nami had already laced his wine and food with drugs. Once he consumed them, she would be able to steal his treasure.

"Thank you," Rodney said, sitting down at the table and enjoying his meal. While it didn't compare to Sanji's, it was still quite tasty. After all, not everyone could match the skill of the chef at the Baratie.

Rodney quickly devoured the food, washing it down with a bottle of red wine, like a thirsty man.

"Please close the door when you leave. I want to sleep," he said, yawning.

"Of course, sir," Nami replied with a smile. She pushed the food cart aside and closed the door behind her.

Standing outside the door, she pressed her ear to it, listening for sounds coming from the room. Soon, as she expected, a sound of peaceful sleep came from within, indicating that the person inside was fast asleep.

Smiling, Nami easily opened the door. In the darkness, guided by the moonlight streaming through the porthole, she approached Rodney's bed.

Her light and gentle hand reached out to the bag lying on the bed.

Easy to grab, right? But why does it feel like something's tugging at the pouch?

Nami's instincts told her something was wrong. She was about to let go when something resembling a dagger leaped out of the shadows across the room. It pierced the air with a powerful gust, narrowly missing Nami's beautiful cheek.

"Is that... a knife? So close!" she thought.

However, the little burglar Nami was not so easily fooled.

Nami was pleased with herself, thinking she'd escaped the trap. Before she could react, another jerk was heard, and several kunai flew out from the opposite shadow. This time, they were different: their ends were bound with steel wire.

The steel wire formed a net that tightened around Nami, binding her tightly and forcing her to fall to the ground in an unfavorable position.

"What... it's so tight! What is it?" Nami whispered, trying to free herself.

But the more she struggled, the tighter the steel wire became. It squeezed her chest, making it difficult to breathe. What was happening?

"It looks like you've fallen for my trap, Miss Snitch," Rodney said with a smile, sitting up in bed. He was completely alert and showed no signs of drowsiness.

"Did you... did you figure out my trick?" Nami asked.

"Of course. I'm used to dealing with tricks and even have an antidote for drugs. I'll tell you, these drugs are best mixed with strong alcohol. Such food and red wine are easily digested, and the drugs still have a weak taste," Rodney explained, grinning.

Nami: "..."

The meeting with the expert was truly unsuccessful.

With a pitiful expression on her face she pleaded:

"I'm sorry, sir. This is the first time I've done anything like this. I had no choice but to resort to this to make a living. Please let me go. I have a family to support, and if the captain finds out, I'll lose this job."

Rodney put the useless steel wire aside and stuffed it into his pocket.

"Miss Snitch, do you expect me to believe your nonsense?" He leaned forward and sniffed the air. "That smell... that smell of lies!"

This story is intriguing! I love how you build tension and keep the reader guessing what will happen next. Here are a few ideas that might make the story even more interesting:

* **Develop Rodney's character:** He seems tough and greedy for treasure. But what drives him? What is his story? Why is he so obsessed with wealth?

* **Add more details about Nami:** She seems cunning and skilled at deception. What are her motives? Why does she want to deceive Rodney?

* **Create a clearer threat:** What will happen to us if Rodney finds out the truth? What are the consequences of her lie?

* **Develop the plot:** What happens after Rodney agrees to go with us? Where will they go? Will they find the treasure?

**Here are some ideas for plot development:**

* **Nami may lead Rodney to a false treasure to buy time and escape.**

* **Rodney might become suspicious of Nami and start to suspect that she is cheating on him.**

* **A third character may appear who wants to take possession of the treasure and try to outsmart both of them.**

Don't forget the details! Describe the setting, the characters' feelings, and their actions. The more details, the more vivid and interesting the story will be.

I'm looking forward to the continuation!
