"This Sharingan of mine... I'm giving it to you. Come to think of it, I never properly congratulated you for becoming a jonin, Kakashi. So consider this eye a gift to celebrate your promotion to jonin."

When Obito, half his body crushed beneath a massive boulder, said these words with a smile, Kakashi and Rin, standing nearby, powerless, simultaneously trembled.

Kakashi's pain-filled eyes instantly became dull, while Rin's tears, after briefly pausing, flowed down her cheeks once more.

Because they both knew what it meant for Obito to personally say such things, yet they could only watch helplessly as the dying Obito gave his final words. This pain was like someone taking a knife to their hearts, cutting a thousand times!

"No matter what the villagers say, you're the most outstanding jonin. This is... my final sentiment, so accept it. Also, Kakashi, I'm entrusting Rin to you."

When Obito, smiling at the corner of his mouth, entrusted this intact left eye to Kakashi and asked him to take care of Rin, feeling the intense tremors in the ground, his consciousness completely fell into darkness.

"With this eye, you'll definitely be able to take Rin and escape. Don't disappoint me, Kakashi."

"News from the clones, Lord Madara brought back another critically injured brat. Want to go see?"

The ever-unpredictable Little White suddenly emerged from underground, staring with dead-fish eyes at Shinomiya Aoha.

Upon hearing this, Aoha's eyes immediately brightened as he jumped off the bed: "Let's go! Where is he?"

"Lord Madara is treating him in the medical room."

The medical room.

Shinomiya Aoha pursed his lips. For some reason, the place he disliked most in the entire base was that eerie, terrifying room.

Plus, going there now would only cause trouble and might even arouse that immortal old bastard's suspicion. So he decided to be patient. After all, he'd endured six months; why care about this short while?

As for whether the rescued brat was poor Obito, he'd know soon enough.

So he left his room and, on his short legs, zigzagged through several turns to reach another location.

This was one of many spare spaces Madara had created when establishing this base. Since it wasn't currently in use, Aoha had claimed it as a burial chamber.

In the centre of the dim, empty room stood two tombstones side by side on the ground, ones he'd erected for his parents in this life after settling in.

Though the original Shinomiya Aoha had been killed, since 'he' had come back to life, inherited this name, body, and everything else, this debt still needed repaying.

He was currently too weak, unable to avenge this body's parents or do anything else. So he might as well do what little he could, fulfilling his filial duties.

Besides this, there was another more pragmatic reason he preferred not to mention.

He was doing this for that immortal old bastard to see!

Who was easier to manipulate, someone loyal and righteous, or an ungrateful, heartless wolf?

Since he currently couldn't demonstrate any useful value, he'd create some himself.

This kind of thing perfectly fits his current 'character setting', so why not?

It eased his conscience while achieving his goal, killing multiple birds with one stone.

The only question was whether that immortal Madara would buy it.

After respectfully paying respects to his deceased parents, Shinomiya Aoha stood up again. He believed nothing he did could escape White Zetsu and Madara's eyes, so he'd let time prove whether his efforts were worthwhile.

Taking a deep breath, he turned and walked out.

"Am I... dead?"

On the stone bed, Obito, wrapped like a mummy, suddenly opened his eyes. But the surrounding dim environment made it temporarily hard to adapt.

"Where... is this?"

"This is the gap between the underworld and the living world, a member of the Uchiha clan."

The moment Madara spoke, Shinomiya Aoha, eavesdropping outside, knew this old bastard was definitely a veteran chuunibyou!

To be able to say such embarrassingly chuuni occult nonsense without any shame, no wonder he could fool so many people.

Plus, that poker face covered in wrinkles made it impossible to tell whether he spoke the truth or lies. His aura immediately skyrocketed. No wonder he wasn't afraid of Naruto's ultimate Talk no Jutsu in later stages; this was clearly a grandmaster-level figure!

"Your eyes..." After a brief adaptation, Obito finally made out some details. Then he saw the familiar tomoe in the old man's eye before the bed!

"Are you also from the Uchiha clan?"

"Hehe, who knows?"

See? See?!

Here it comes again!

When it comes to the art of acting cool, I, Madara, am the strongest in the ninja world!

Anyway, Shinomiya Aoha was convinced!

The chuuni riddle-speak inside continued. What destiny, karma, peaceful world, people saved because of you. Aoha yawned, listening to it. Words like fate, cause and effect, peaceful world, people saved because of you, it made him drowsy.

He could easily imagine Obito's completely confused face from outside.

However, one could predict that Madara had successfully established his persona as a Uchiha hermit expert. After all, if he couldn't even fool a hot-blooded kid like Obito, what kind of villain boss would he be?

But being single-minded had its advantages. Though Madara still employed his tactic of leveraging the life-saving grace to demand repayment, Obito kept clamouring about returning to Konoha to find Kakashi and Rin.

However, Madara's brilliance lay in not being impatient, or perhaps he still had methods he hadn't used to make Obito submit.

So from inside came Obito's loud shouting: "I don't know what you've been rambling about, but anyway, I won't stay here. I'm leaving!"

"You can leave anytime you want, as long as you can move."

After saying this, Madara fell silent and turned to leave.

Just then, Obito seemed to remember something and suddenly demanded, "Who exactly are you? I've seen all the Uchiha clan members, so, are you a Konoha missing-nin!?"

Konoha?

Missing-nin?

Madara, with his back to Obito, seemed to smile. Without turning his head, he spoke a line that shook Obito to his core!

"I am the undead of Uchiha, Uchiha Madara."

Obito's eyes widened instantly, as if someone had grabbed his throat. He couldn't voice those questioning words in his belly. The sound of that scythe dragging against the ground echoed in his ears, gradually fading into the distance.
