Chapter 20 - "The Deadly Invitation"

That evening after Mino some sleep and was assisted by his mom to come downstairs for food.

She went straight to the kitchen to prepare the food. Mino stood there on the table thinking about something and his brother was sleeping deeply.

Mr Belton was busy making a phone call.

After a trial of no response, he smashed the table with aggression.

"These bastards would crush my hopes to get a good client" Mr Belton said with rage.

"Be chill for a few hours, you will get better ones cause your way of marketing is brilliant." His wife responded in a soft way.

"Should I bring Milo to the table?" She continued with the same tone, a bit nervous.

"NO NEED TO DO THAT!" Mr Belton responded, looking her dead in the eye.

"Alright." Mrs Belton said with a sigh.

"Let that spoiled brat rot" Mr Belton said still aggressive

"....."

There was complete silence among the three of them. Suddenly Mino noticed the invitation which his mom had thrown away on the sofa earlier.

"What's this?" Mino said with visible confusion in his voice.

"Keep that down." His mom said with a cry as well.

"Give it to me. Let me have a look." His dad said with a side look.

Mino did as his father told him.

His mother stood there with visible fear on her sad face.

"An invitation to the wedding of Mr Fletcher, S/o of Mrs Valeno and Mrs Helena, D/o of Mr Wrightwol.

Evening: 11 pm-01 am

(Notice: No kids allowed. Free food and a game of luck which can make you a billionaire or get you a perfect partner. The gents only come in black and the ladies only in white gowns with their faces covered)

"Why didn't anyone told me about this earlier?" Mr Belton said looking at both the figures in front of him.

"I had no clue dad." Mino responded not looking in the eye of his papi.

"Honey, I would suggest you ignore this invite. The one who dropped this was a creepy man." His wife said with a whisper in a melancholy tone.

"It says free food and a game of luck to be a billionaire." Her husband said with an angry smile.

"But- remember whatever is given at an easy expense or trial is often a scam or a jeopardy." Mrs Belton responded with sadness.

"I will decide that myself. If it's a scam I will choke that dude myself for wasting my precious time." Mr Belton said putting the envelope on the table.

"So you wouldn't listen to anything I told you?" Mrs Belton said looking at her husband with grief.

Mr Belton gave her a side eye and left the dining area. He went straight to the bedroom to look for a dress at the wedding and started calling his close friends about the good news of becoming a billionaire soon.

What he did not know was that it was not good news and a thing that it was perhaps his last call with those friends.

Her wife ate dinner along with Mino. She also brought some food for Milo who was unable to move from the bed.

After some time, Mino also went to sleep as firstly the weather was really harsh outside secondly he was injured and there was no Milo to hangout with.

After a while, Mr Belton got ready and came downstairs at around 11: 55 pm.

She approached him, trying to stop.

"Please rethink this decision. Don't go." Mrs Belton pleaded with her husband.

"I would rather recommend you to join me instead of stopping me. Don't lose opportunities." Mr Belton said fixing his tie.

"Opportunities come after doing hardships. Whatever is served without hardship is a betting game." Mrs Belton said with a soft tone.

"You woman. I never understood why you often disagree with my thoughts." Mr Belton said looking at his boots.

"Being on the same page as you is quite a headache. Your decisions never make sense. A recent one was doing cigars to leave alcohol." Mrs Belton said raising her voice a bit.

"Don't interfere in my personal matters and go to sleep if you don't want to join me." Mr Belton said moving away.

"Okay.." His wife said going upstairs to sleep with Mino.

When Mr Belton left the building he had no clue where to find the place or the wedding hall as there was no hall mentioned.

He was looking around for someone to ask him the whereabouts but the weather was pretty harsh to find even a single entity.

The sad part was he had no clue that he was the only one, indeed the only alive family in the entire neighborhood. The rest were just illusions of people who had died there previously.

Suddenly after reaching towards the end of his street, he saw a man heading his way in the same suit he was wearing.

He was indeed a dead man who had died in the same party 2 months ago.

"Hi. Can u help me find the location to this since you seem to be a local?" Mr Belton said with a smile.

"Sure. What's the place?" The man said with an evil side grin.

"I am new to this town. There is no venue mentioned just the names of the people who gave me the invitation." Mr Belton said putting one of his hands on his hair.

"Hmm. Yeah. I am heading towards the same party." The other man said, the smile being normal this time.

"What a lucky day then." Mr Belton said with a handshake.

"Yeah man. A very VERY lucky day indeed for the BOTH of us." The suspicious man said his smile was turning a bit evil again.

Mr Belton gave lesser attention to his facial expressions as the weather was harsh and secondly he was getting late for the party.

After a walk of roughly 15 minutes, Mr Belton and the other guy who introduced himself as Johnny reached a big house.

Outside the main door, they were approached by Fletcher.

Mr Belton really enjoyed greeting Fletcher and Johnny. They seemed to be normal people to him.

Little did he know, what was coming ahead for him in the form of a giant curse.

"So when is the party going to start? I thought I was late." Mr Belton said with a laugh.

"Don't worry you came earlier than the ones before." Fletcher smiled as well.

"I have to meet someone. I will join you guys later at the main party." Johnny said, shaking hands with both of them.

"Alright mate." Mr Belton said, rubbing his eyes.

After blinking his eyes, he saw that Johnny had disappeared like he got evaporated.

He stood motionless but didn't react much.

After a short while, Mr Belton entered the house with Fletcher.

The doors behind him closed silently.

He saw that there were many people at the party but the vibe seemed pretty dead.

All the half was full of gents and a little variety of women but there was no noise.

The whole hall was full of silence that even a birds feather would make a sound if dropped there.

Mr Belton seemed pretty confused about the environment.

He never attended something as dead as this party ever in his lifetime.

"Enjoy the food. I will see you in a while." Fletcher said disappearing with a smile.

Before Belton could respond with an answer he saw that Fletcher had evaporated from his side.

Mr Belton tried to socialize with the people around but nobody seemed to interact much except a "*dead Hi*

He saw that the clothing worn was pretty old class and stitched. Although it had the same colour that Belton was wearing, those gave old school vibes.

Their faces were whiter than usual seeming that all of them rose from a cold region or a refrigerator.

After a while Belton saw Fletcher helping someone at the food counter.

It was indeed the same dude, Johnny who disappeared suddenly at the gate.

"Ahm..hey guys. Do you know when the food is going to be served?" Belton asked with a smile.

None of them responded.

Johnny was closely looking at a card Belton paid less attention to cause he was too hungry.

In the next 5 seconds, Fletcher quickly rotated his neck as if hit by a snake bit.

"Just wait, 4 more minutes." Fletcher responded with a creepy voice indicating a small smile.

"Alright." Belton said, looking at the clock immediately.

It was almost 12:45 am.

On the other hand, Mrs Belton was worried as it was hitting close to 1 am and her husband wasn't responding to any of the calls. Little did she know his phone lost access the time he entered the haunted mansion.

At 12:50 am, the food was served

Belton saw that the food was pretty old class and rotten.

He decided not to eat it but pretending enjoy it just to keep the company along.

This was the first time when he got the inferior he used to give others. The place where he was surrounded by many people supposedly but still too much lonely.

"What's wrong? U don't seem to enjoy the food. Want me to serve something else." Fletcher said, putting his first two fingers on Belton.

"No no. I am good." Mr Belton said pretending to take a bite.

"Haha. Enjoy urself and get home stuffed." Fletcher said getting up from the table.

He disappeared again in a short while. Belton's eyes were too sleepy to detect that movement.

Slowly and gradually all the hall was getting empty.

One by one the dead guests starting leaving. Belton noticed that he didn't saw any ladies at the function.

Also the main part was the missing Bride and Groom.

He was afraid to even question Fletcher because now he felt a bit scared at the function and wanted to leave as earlier as possible.

He was still hungry cause he didn't eat anything just for a few alcohol sips and a little dosa.

At 1 am only Johnny and him were seated.

He wanted to use it as an opportunity.

"Hey." Belton said moving towards Johnny and giving him a handshake.

"What do u want?" Johnny asked in a rude way not even looking at the other dude.

"Hmm..I just needed company." Belton said taking his hand backwards.

"Are u a kid or what? Stuff urself and leave." Johnny said raising his tone a bit.

"Hey look at your tone when you speak to me." Belton said, getting a bit angry.

"Or what huh?" Johnny said getting up from his table in a slow motion.

Mr Belton saw that all the lights were sparking as if there was an electricity short circuit and closing one by one.

Darkness was awaiting him.

He looked at Johnny. The same man who seemed rude to him a while ago grew complete whitish with his face turned towards his back.

He started crying loudly.

Mr Belton felt terrified at this sudden exchange of emotions but he wanted a partner to get along him towards his home as he was too drunk.

He looked at his phone which ran off at charge/power.

"Look man. It's okay if you are having a bad time. Life is tough and sometim-" Belton said in a slow voice before he was interrupted.

"LIFE? HUH. WHAT IS EVEN LIFE ABOUT?" Johnny said still weeping and shouting loudly.

"There is a purpose to life. There maybe be ups and downs but you need to give a chance to others." Belton said putting a hand on Johnny's shoulder.

Johnny slowly started turning around seeming like a super hero making his entrance.

When he turned out, Belton fell to the floor with a huge cry, his face became pale.

Johnny face has turned into the face of Milo.

The face was not the usual one. It was filled with wounds, thorns and dried blood.

Suddenly there was a bone breaking noise in the whole area.

Belton looked to his lefts and rights but saw nothing else. Now all the hall was dark except for that one spotlight which was covering both Johnny and Belton.

His whole body has become twisted with bones laying out as if hit or tortured brutally.

"Dad. Didn't I deserve another chance? What was even my fault?" Johnny said with the voice sounding the same as Milo.

"Milo? Wtf? How did you come here?" Belton said halfway confused and anxious.

"Tell me dad. What was my fault? You never loved me but took me for granted." Johnny imitated with Milo's voice.

"Listen to me Milo. Please stop these. I promise I wouldn't do it again." Belton said with scared expressions.

"How could I trust you? You never sided with me and beat me like your punching bag when you had other issues to deal with." Johnny responded with Milo's vocals.

"Please son. Let me go." Belton said trying to get up with spaghetti legs.

"Why did you hide the fact that I wasn't your biological child?" Johnny said in a creepy tone sounding the same as Milo.

"Aah!...I was..too...afraid." Mr Belton said trying to stand straight.

"Why did you torture me countless times for something I never did?" Johnny replied with Milo's tone.

"Please let bygones be bygones. We will sort it out." Mr Belton said with a scared face.

"Promise me dad." Johnny aka Imposter Milo said with a sweet voice.

"I promise." Mr Belton putting a hand on his shoulder.

He tried to hug him to gain his trust but Johnny with his original face turned back.

"Let's go dad. Gate is this way." Johnny slowly walked, the voice sounding different.

Mr Belton was confused to the core.

He questioned multiple times about the events that occured to him all along.

"How was Milo well aware of the routes?" Was it all a plan, a mischief? How could a kid plan such all this alone with complete strangers around him?"

He followed Johnny towards a particular direction.

To his surprise there was a short pause then a tick sound.

Everything went dark for 10 seconds.

When the light for restored after a second tick, he saw that Johnny turned completely into Milo.
