~Xander.
I am Xander Whales.
I am the only legitimate grandchild of my grandfather and the heir to his fortune.
My grandfather is a business mogul and businessman, someone highly respected in the business world.
My father died in an accident, when I was little. As for my mother, I never knew her. I was told she abandoned me the moment I was born but growing up… I feel I wasn't told the entire truth.
Unfortunately, there was a condition to claiming what belonged to me, Marriage.
My grandfather arranged a lady for me, Sophie. She was the daughter of a family friend and fellow businessman.
In fact, her father was the second largest shareholder in my grandfather's company, Whales industries.
Sophie was a model, a very beautiful and popular one but… I didn't like her. I never did and I never will.
However, no one cared about my feelings as the matter had been sealed, and soon we were married.
If only marriage had been the only option, I wouldn't be so bothered. My grandfather being a businessman who had long been in the game sure had some funny tricks of his which he used to get whatever he wanted.
"You must get Sophie pregnant and give me at least a great-grandchild to secure your inheritance or else, it would go to that illegitimate step sister of yours," he had barked.
If there was something I knew my grandfather for, that was the fact that he never joked with his words.
Before my father died, he had a fling with his secretary at the office and got her pregnant.
My grandfather was furious when he found out and insisted on the woman terminating the pregnancy but my father didn't allow it happen. He took care of her secretly till she delivered the baby, after which he paid her off, taking the child from her.
I was five, but I was really smart for my age.
I would never forget the look of shock and disappointment on my grandfather's face as he stared at my father who stood at the entrance of the house with a tiny baby, wrapped tightly in his hand
Annoyed that his son had disobeyed his orders. He hated the child and didn't want her to be under his roof. But after much pleading, he accepted.
He however made it clear that she wouldn't get anything from his inheritance, a condition to which my father readily agreed to.
The accident which took my father made my grandfather a shadow of himself since he was his only child, having lost my aunt, my father's younger sister at a tender age with my late grandmother in an accident many years back.
On his deathbed, my father made my grandfather promise to take care of his illegitimate daughter and help her become a better person in life, even though she wouldn't get any inheritance.
Now, that little harmless girl had become a torn in my flesh, fighting to claim what was mine.
Back to the marriage thing, I only wanted one woman, Jenna.
Jenna was my college sweetheart who I had promised to marry before we separated after college.
She was the definition of perfection.
She had the bluest of eyes which seemed as though the stars resided in them and her body… it was sculpted into perfection.
Whenever she let her blonde hair touched her shoulder, It seems as though time freeze and I am lost between realities.
My heart only longed for her, and no one else.
Frustrated by my grandfather's constant nagging to give him a great grandchild with the woman I had no feelings for, I went out one night and had too much to drink.
I met someone, a social worker who just listened to my nagging for hours. Each time I asked a question, she always gave the right answers, just what I wanted to hear.
And then… we kissed.
Immediately our bodies touched and our lips tasted the sweetness of the other, there was no stopping us. We made love and slept in each other's arms.
The next morning before she woke up, I was gone, leaving a wad of cash and a "I'm sorry" note.
Two years later, I woke up one morning to my grandfather fuming due to my adamance to produce children with my wife.
My grandfather once more threatened to strip me of every inheritance I had, reminding me that it would take him nothing to transfer it all to my step sister.
At the exact same time, I received a text on my phone from a strange number saying, "I'm back my love, can't wait to see you. It's been a long time since college."
Immediately I read it, my eyes widened as It could only have been from one person… the only woman I ever loved, Jenna. She was back!
A maid walked into our midst and announced that a woman was at the door, asking for me.
My heart raced with excitement as I ran towards the door, ignoring my grandfather and wife's remarks. Nothing was as important as Jenna right now, not even them or my grandfather's threats.
A disappointed look however settled on my face when I saw a slender and slightly beautiful woman with short blonde hair and light brown eyes holding a boy not more than two years old instead of Jenna.
Immediately our eyes met, something stirred in my head as I felt I had seen her face before. I looked from her to the child who surprisingly had long dark hair like mine and hazel green eyes just like I did, confusing me the most.
"Who are you?" I asked the woman.
By now, my grandfather and wife had come behind me, watching the scene unfold.
"I… I'm Iris," the slender woman said. "We met two years ago, one night when you were drunk. I was a little tipsy too and we…" she trailed.
Speechless, she gently moved the boy towards me and said, "This is your son, the result of what transpired that night between us."
Immediately, Sophie screamed and my grandfather held his chest as though he had another heart attack, a constant thing he had when troubled, since my father's death.
The maids quickly rushed to my grandfather while I stared in disbelief.
Now, my story begins.
