The tears came before I could stop them, my face buried against Caleb's chest as his familiar scent wrapped around me like a safety net. I hadn't realized just how desperately I needed him until this exact moment.
For an entire week, I called this house every single day. Each time one of his brothers answered with the same words - he still hadn't opened his eyes - I wanted to find Bailey and put a bullet through his skull.
That bastard was behind bars now, stripped of his colonel's badge and everything else he'd worked for. Kidnapping charges would keep him locked up for years. As for Bonita, her list of crimes ran even longer than his.
Drug use was just the tip of the iceberg with her. Between that and all her other offenses, she'd be rotting in a cell for the rest of her miserable life.
She was finished. Gone. I'd succeeded in destroying every piece of her existence. She didn't have a single dollar left to her name.
