Chapter 132: Kizaru Forced to Work

Iwagakure Outpost #110.

The gale howled, whipping up a sky full of yellow sand that battered the hard rocky battlements, creating a ceaseless, crackling cacophony.

Built against the mountainside, this outpost was a critical junction connecting the heartland of the Land of Earth to the border. More importantly, it served as a transit warehouse for the Explosion Corps, stockpiling tons of explosive tags and specialized clay.

At this moment, dozens of Rock ninja stood ready on the perimeter walls.

"Hey, is that new kid really going to be okay?"

A Chunin lowered his voice, looking skeptically at the boy sitting on the parapet not far away, swinging his legs.

"Shh! Keep it down!" His companion was startled and hurriedly covered his mouth. "That's the Tsuchikage-sama's personal disciple! The genius known as the 'Wall of Kitsuchi'!"

The boy being discussed was Kizaru, reincarnated as "Doi."

At this moment, he was staring boredly at the desolate wasteland. His tea-colored sunglasses had slid down the bridge of his nose, revealing a pair of dead fish eyes that lacked any motivation whatsoever.

"Oooo~ So scary~ To have to stand guard in this kind of ghostly weather."

Doi yawned, sluggishly fishing a dry, hard food pill from his chest pocket. He gave it a look of disgust before stuffing it back.

"This stuff is like eating a rock. No matter how many times I eat it, I just can't get used to it~"

Just then, a burly Jonin walked over briskly. He was the captain of this outpost's garrison, a man named Ishikawa.

"Doi!" Ishikawa frowned, his tone severe. "According to intelligence, the Cloud assault unit might be nearby. The Tsuchikage-sama sent you here to reinforce our defenses, not to enjoy the breeze!"

Doi tilted his head and pouted. "Captain Ishikawa, let me rest a little bit~ Young people these days are under so much pressure~"

"Cut the crap!" Ishikawa pointed to a section of the earthen wall ahead that had fallen into disrepair. "There are cracks in the fortifications over there. Fix them immediately! If the enemy breaks through there and detonates the explosive tags in the warehouse, we're all done for!"

Doi sighed, slowly stood up, and patted the dust off his butt.

"You really know how to work a person to the bone... Are all bosses this scary nowadays?"

Muttering to himself, he swayed his way over to the damaged section of the wall.

"Doi! Stop dawdling! Perform the hand seals!" Captain Ishikawa urged, furious at the lack of urgency.

"I know, I know. Such an impatient personality~"

Doi complained, finally pulling his hands out of his pockets.

Just as everyone expected him to sluggishly begin forming the seals for a basic Earth-Style Wall, his hands turned into a blur.

"Serpent-Boar-Rooster-Monkey..."

A sharp-eyed Jonin tried to identify the seals, only to find his dynamic vision couldn't keep up at all. Those weren't individual seals; they were a blur of afterimages!

In less than a second, the dazzlingly complex sequence of hand seals came to an abrupt halt.

As if finishing a troublesome chore, Doi casually slapped one palm onto the ground.

"Earth Release: Earth Flow Rampart!"

Rumble!

The earth suddenly trembled violently.

Under the shocked gazes of all the Rock ninja, the section of the earthen wall, originally only three meters high, began to grow frantically as if it were alive!

The rock beneath the ground was forcibly extracted, reconstructed, and hardened.

In the blink of an eye, a massive rock rampart—five meters thick and over ten meters high—rose from the ground. Its surface was as smooth as a mirror, gleaming with a metallic luster.

Not only that, but the top of the rampart automatically extended to form several shooting bunkers and observation ports.

The entire field went deathly silent.

Ishikawa's mouth hung wide open, the kunai in his hand falling to the ground with a clang.

What was that speed?

He hadn't even seen a single seal clearly just now! That had to be at least ten seals, right? And he finished them in under a second? And he looked so relaxed doing it?

"Is... is this the Earth Flow Rampart?" a Rock ninja stammered. "You've got to be kidding me! A ninjutsu of this scale, with hand signs too fast to see?"

"Too strong! That chakra control and hand seal speed... he's a monster!"

The surrounding Rock ninja instantly erupted into commotion. Their gazes toward Doi shifted from suspicion to fanatical worship.

Doi shoved his hands back into his pockets and slowly walked back to the parapet to sit down. He pushed up his sunglasses, his tone remaining lazy.

"Maa~ That's about it, I guess. If you want it any higher, I'll have to charge overtime pay, you know."

Internally, he silently grumbled: Using Earth Release at this level is a bit harder on the hands than my laser beams back in the day.

Ishikawa swallowed hard and picked up the kunai from the ground, his attitude instantly becoming much more respectful.

"Ahem... Well done, Doi. With this wall, even if those Cloud barbarians smash their heads against it, they won't—"

Before he could finish his sentence.

A dull, heavy boom suddenly came from the distance.

THUD!

The earth gave a violent jolt.

Ishikawa's expression changed. "What is that? An earthquake?"

THUD!!

A second boom rang out, closer and heavier than the first.

Inside the outpost, tea cups buzzed and rattled, and documents on the tables were shaken to the floor.

The lazy expression on Doi's face receded slightly. Behind his sunglasses, his gaze shifted toward the dust cloud rising in the distance.

"Oh my, oh my... It seems something terrible is coming this way~"

THUD!

THUD!

The muffled, rhythmic booms felt like a heavy hammer striking the chest of every Rock ninja.

The air inside the outpost seemed to solidify.

On a desk, a cup of coarse tea that had long gone cold rippled with concentric circles. Then, the cup suddenly jumped, smashing onto the floor and shattering into pieces.

"An earthquake?"

A Rock ninja panicked, grabbing the wall for support. The vibration underfoot grew more intense, as if an ancient giant beast was turning over beneath the earth.

"No! That's not an earthquake!"

Captain Ishikawa rushed to the observation port, shoving aside the Chunin on watch. He gripped the window ledge with both hands, his eyes bloodshot from extreme horror.

At the end of his vision, the sky full of yellow sand was being torn apart by a brute force.

There was no glow of chakra.

There was no roar of ninjutsu.

There was only a black dot.

That black dot was sprinting across the earth at a speed that defied common sense. With every step, the ground exploded into a crater several meters wide, the recoil propelling that not-so-tall body toward them like a cannonball.

"What... what the hell is that thing?"

Ishikawa's voice was trembling.

The distance closed rapidly.

It was... a person!

A child who looked only eight or nine years old, with dark skin and a face full of wild laughter. A string of exaggeratedly large prayer beads hung around his neck, clattering loudly in the fierce wind.

"ENEMY ATTACK!!!"

The shrill scream had just squeezed out of Ishikawa's throat when the black figure arrived.

He was already a hundred meters away from the outpost.

Facing the ten-meter-high copper wall and iron bastion that Kizaru had just reinforced, the child showed no sign of slowing down.

On the contrary, he was accelerating.

"Bwahahaha! Rock turtle shell! Break open for this old man!"
