The next day, the boy didn't come.
Lucian had already told her he was only allowed two visits a week.
She understood, but the ward felt colder without him.
When she went to get breakfast, everyone was staring at her.
And it wasn't the usual stare.
It was as if they were looking at a crazy person(Even though they are all crazy in their own ways for being there).
Some were even mumbling to each other.
She just went to join the line, ignoring everyone's stares.
"Can't believe she is such a person."
"The beauty is just to hide her true nature."
"Haven't you seen the scars on her body? She did all that to herself."
"Crazy bitch."
She heard some words that made her stop and look at the group for a while, then continued walking.
She didn't care about others' opinions, nor did she want to know how they knew about it.
It was clear who could have done it.
When she reached the end of the line, taking her tray, she stood before the woman who was serving her.
She was middle-aged, with light wrinkles beside her eyes. She usually had a warm atmosphere around her, especially with people like Sera who were quiet, but today she was looking at Sera like she was filth.
"I thought you were a good person due to your behaviour, but how could you–"
Her voice trembled.
Sera stared at her, confused.
"–how could you do that to your own child?"
Sera froze, her eyes shook.
"What kind of mother are you? You are just a monster…Tch, get this and go away." She slapped the scoop of food onto the tray.
"Go!"
Sera, still shocked, walked to take a seat.
'Their opinion doesn't matter. They don't know anything.'
She went to her table slowly, trying to calm her mind from bursting out.
Some people laughed stiffly or commented in low voices.
Especially a woman who was giggling to herself. She was the mean-looking woman, the one who told everyone about Sera's past.
Sera ate her food quietly.
The mean-looking woman, named Beth, walked towards Sera.
"Oh, Seraphina! How are you? Remember me? We met yesterday"
Sera turned her head towards her,
"You did it, right?"
Hearing her flat tone, Beth's eyes twitched.
"I did, so what? Are you gonna complain to your husb–ah! No, Ex-husband, right? Can't believe he had to live with you."
Hearing her words, Sera chuckled coldly, then continued eating.
Beth got irritated.
'This bitch is too calm. Again.'
She tried looking at her hair tie, but Sera had kept it in her room.
She wanted Seraphina to give a reaction in front of everyone.
'Ah, right!'
"I heard that you abused your son?"
Sera looked at her coldly.
"Oh! He even went missing and then died due to an accident. Maybe it wasn't an accident, maybe he tried to take his own life, after all the t—Ah!"
Sera had slammed her to the ground, hands wrapped around her neck, her blue eyes burning.
"Don't you dare," she whispered, voice trembling with rage.
"Don't you ever say anything about my son."
Beth was having trouble breathing. She tried to loosen the grip but couldn't.
So she punched Sera's stomach to get out of her grasp.
When Sera fell, she started beating her.
"Who do you think you are! Huh! Just because you are a bit beautiful, you think you can do anything!? You are just a murderer who killed her son!"
She slapped Sera's face repeatedly. Just looking at her face made her feel jealous.
Sera couldn't defend herself properly.
Due to her malnutrition, she was weak compared to the woman before her.
And hearing the woman's words made her stop defending. She just let herself be hit.
'I didn't, I didn't do anything. It was all his fault.'
Tears dripped from her eyes, not because of the physical pain but due to the pain caused by her words.
