Chapter 15 - The Dragoni

"Your mortal enemy?" Enoch repeated.

Khovar's head tilted slightly, as if trying to nod, but it only made the blood spill from his brain faster.

"Yes. Hvadis haunted me in the physical realm, and continued on into the spiritual realm. I ascended with great power, but my domain is weak. I could not fight against him. But then you arrived, a living god."

A living god. Enoch had never seen it that way. Rather he was the Godeater.

On further thought, he realised that the analogy might be fitting.

"If your greatest enemy is now dead, why are you unbothered about meeting your death? What about your saint, do you not have plans for her?"

"Making Jane a saint was nothing but my penance. The evil god of nightmares corrupted me, forcing me to walk an immoral path. I thought that making another walk a righteous path would ease my conscience, but it did not work. Instead, I will welcome my death with open arms as punishment."

The god lifted both arms, which seemed a struggle.

Enoch was starting to understand.

Khovar was never really an evil man, or god. Rather, he was a victim of Hvadis' cruelty.

It was a tale that the history books were unaware of. A tale that would have changed the course of the Lavender Kingdom, if it were to ever spread.

Enoch let out a sigh.

It is too late now.

He moved closer to the throne, steps echoing through the hall. Eventually he stood over the weakened form of the god, almost feeling hesitant in his actions.

"Do not waste time, Godeater. Before I change my mind and put up a fight."

Enoch's face remained solemn. "If you wish."

He activated Divine Devour, causing his jaws and mouth to split apart, opening to an insane proportion.

At first, the red essence that flowed from the man's core was sucked into Enoch's being. Following that, Khovar's physical form began to fade into a mist of the same colour.

Like a vacuum, the entire essence of Khovar was drawn into Enoch's being. What followed was excruciating pain, which made him fall to his knees and clasp at his hair as he had done before.

[Khovar, God of Blood, has been eaten!]

Enoch's status notified him that the consumption was successful. His entire being suddenly felt empowered, making him forget about the pain that surged through his body.

Taking deep breaths, he calmed himself down.

His bronze core progression had, in an instant, reached 100%, bringing him to a stage where he awaited his breakthrough to Silver.

He noted that the consumption efficiency of the god of blood was at a higher percentage than his consumption of the god of nightmares. His guess was that the more information he gathered on the intentions of the god beforehand played a large part in this.

Just as Enoch was about to start going over the skills he had earned from the god, the space around him started to change.

First, the castle faded from existence, followed by the entire island and the ocean surrounding it.

Khovar's domain had crumbled with his death, leaving Enoch standing in the golden spiritual realm...

In his immoral physical form.

His heart started beating rapidly.

Just in that mere instant, Enoch felt the eyes of a thousand gods land upon him. If he were a lesser man, he would be frozen, unable to think.

Instead, Enoch activated Bodily Exchange, once again swapping places with the Angelbird.

As he did, he spotted Jane's light fluttering towards him. Though it was no longer golden, but rather red.

"What have you done, Enoch?" she cried, urging for him to follow her. "The spirit realm... I can feel anger everywhere."

But Enoch couldn't answer. He was in the form of the bird, yet he still felt greater beings watching him.

Enoch flapped his wings and followed Jane's red light through the realm. However, after a while, she began to slow down.

"Khovar is no longer here to guide me... This is going to take longer than it usually does." Her voice quivered.

Enoch began to panic. He had eaten the god that guided Jane through the spirit realm, and with every passing second, he felt divine presences getting closer and closer.

Still, he followed Jane, until she eventually opened a portal.

The pair wasted no time flying through.

Once they emerged on the other side, Enoch used the Angelbird to look around. It was clear that he was not in the same location as before. There was no sign of his physical body that should have been sitting by the camp at night.

Instead, he found himself in a modest village tavern. The tavern was packed with roughly ten people, enjoying a meal around a fireplace.

Jane's spirit cursed. She had drawn them to the wrong place. Her direction had misguided them.

What was even worse, she recognised the people in the tavern.

Wasting no time, she turned back to the portal, shouting for Enoch to follow her inside.

She flew through the portal, but before Enoch could even react, a hand reached out and grabbed a hold of one of the Angelbird's wings tightly.

Enoch looked up and saw that a man with dark blue, hard skin was the one who grabbed him. He was dressed in black thin leather armour, wore a shortsword on his side, and a longbow on his back.

The others in the room were dressed similarly, and all turned their attention to the new arrival.

The man that held Enoch's bird form hissed with a forked lizard-like tongue. "An Angelbird? Spying on us for the Rose Kingdom fools, are you? Well tell your king that it's too late."

Enoch remained calm. Slowly he began to understand the situation he had found himself in.

So instead of struggling himself free, he simply activated Bodily Exchange again.

The white Angelbird evaporated into a mist, which made the man recoil backwards.

The mist continued to spread throughout the room until it eventually dissipated, giving the ten men sight of what was left in its wake.

There stood Enoch, white hair resting on his shoulders, dressed in a dirty black and red royal suit. His two eyes had taken on a slightly red tint, granting him a sinister appearance, aided by the two small horns that peaked from his skull.

His hand rested on his shortsword as he glared at the men before him.

"Dragoni," he smiled as his powerful words carried like a kings. "I wasn't expecting to get to kill you so soon."
