Chapter 9 - Training till my race

It's been 2 days since I had officially signed the contract with my new trainer Ego. He was an interesting fellow, an example of this would be as soon as we finished signing the contract, we quickly went into training for him to "access where I am currently." which was just me running as fast and as long as i could, my strength, positioning, and other things.

He gave me a strict diet and training regiment that I was to follow until I won my debut race, which is still being decided by him, as he has said that I have the ability to run both dirt and turf races. Though, I am noticeably better with turf.

Today was another day of training that Trainer had created. I was at the track from before practicing what I could have done differently, Ego had told me to mentally map the entire race out from beginning to end and try to see what things I could have done differently. I was then to write it down on a piece of paper and show him it, he would then tell me what would work and what wouldn't.

I didn't fully understand the purpose of this training when they had told me about it but what I did know is that he was a rather smart individual, his training plan was extremely detailed. The fact that I liked about my trainer is that he didn't limit my training as much as Miss Kita. There were rest days but they were spread enough for me to not get too annoyed by it.

I finished another lap of the imaginary race but I didn't stop running as I went to where the starting gates used to be before getting into position, I replayed the moment in my head, the scenery was empty and the only thing I saw was the race course and people I was racing against. The information of what their strengths and weaknesses were getting easier for me to see after the repeated imaginary races.

The sound of the starting gates sounded out in my head, my foot stomped onto the ground. I could feel the dirt underneath the soles of my shoes get compressed down as I launched myself forward. I closed my eyes after looking around the race course, I had to get better at mapping the race so I was purposely making sure to not rely on my eye sight so my mapping gets more accurate. This was also to prepare myself for the moment that my eye ever gets hit by some dirt during a race, it was the most common way for us Uma's to get hurt during a race and was something that could cause defeat.

I have been running for the past 4 hours, and arrived here soon after leaving the classroom. In the distance, I could faintly hear the sound of insects making their noises, the sound was extremely faint but I forced myself into listening to the sounds of theirs from a good bit away, the sound of the wind was getting in the way of my hearing but I was able to slightly twitch my ears into a good position to listen.

"Hayate!" I heard the sound of my name being called by a familiar voice, the familiarity causing me to slightly get surprised. I quickly did a controlled slowing of my footsteps before opening my eyes to the voice.

Standing at the fence was Ego, he was wearing the same clothing as before. A simple black shirt and pants. He had a clipboard in his hands, his fingers twirling a pencil.

"It's 8 and the sun is already down, we are done for the day." His voice was calm but the way he looked at me told me enough.

"Fine." I wasn't happy about being forced to stop training but I listened to him either way. He was my ticket to getting into races.

I was gritting my teeth, the sound of it was something that my trainer heard as he looked at me, telling me to stop. It was difficult for me to not when I wanted to continue training but I just walked away.

------

Day after day, I would continue my training for a month. Trainer was still thinking about what race I was going to join but my patience was starting to run thin. I have joined Central to challenge the races, not to spend my time just continuing this f#@king training.

I was running at a dirt track and since it was the weekend, I was training for the past 6 hours, only taking a few rest in between. The training was the same as before but I was dragging multiple bags of sand as I ran though the track, guts training was what he said.

I was starting to get used to dragging the bags of sand when I heard my name being called by trainer. I looked over to see him with the same clothing and clipboard as before. I ignored the thoughts that popped into my head as I walked over to him, keeping the rope around my waist.

"What." I asked, I was upset with my trainer but I still tried to be respectful.

"You have a race a month from now."

"Really?"

"Yes."

"Alright."

After that, I went back to continuing my training. I was still upset that it wouldn't be sooner but I didn't question it.

------

Another week has passed, I was not at the field but instead in my room doing 'homework' that was given to me by Ego. I don't understand the reasoning for this but the thing he taught me was something interesting. I was doing homework for slipstreaming, how to turn corners better, different type of strides and other things.

I was finishing this work in the dorm, which meant that I had to deal with someones constant ramblings.

"And that is why I hate trainer-san." Araki said, he had been rambling for the past hour about how he was being manhandled by his trainer when all I am hearing is him whining for training.

I wanted to punch, badly, but held myself back. I was almost done with this sheet of paper and once I finish it, I can go train.

"Hey, have you even been listening?"

'I hate this guy.' I thought while continuing to write.

--------

I was now training my power and stamina, Ego had given me extremely heavy horse shoes to run around with. I don't understand how they were this heavy despite being rather small but I didn't question it.

At the dirt track, I was running with these shoes on. I was below my usual cruising speed, about 25 mph, the weight of these shoes were something else. It was difficult to even lift my legs, not to mention quickly. During these laps, Ego had told me to use my usual weird movements to see how I am able to do with these shoes on, it was hard.

In the distance I could see trainer writing on his clipboard. I wanted to see what was on the clipboard but whenever I asked him what it was for he just shrugged me off.

I had the rest of the day off after tripping from exhaustion.

------

It was the last week before I had my race, the trainer told me to not train during this week, something which I agreed with. I like training but even I know that doing training a week before the race could be dangerous for me.

During this down time, he had told me to learn and slightly practice, not train, the things I had learned from him. I was also in my classes taking large amounts of notes from the teacher.

I was learning stamina conservation, strides, better techniques for running during situations and how to use my power better. It was difficult to learn all of this but I still did, it didn't surprise my trainer even if it did with Araki.

Speaking of Araki, he had his debut race last week. I wasn't there but he had won by a nose length, coming from behind and taking the win out of the grasp of another Uma. Trainer had said that I should watch out for him as Araki had similar distances as me, someone to look out for.

-------

"Today we are here at the Chukyo racecourse for the-" I could faintly hear the sounds of the announcer even from the rooms that were given to us. I was with my trainer, doing some last minute planning for the race.

'It is almost time.'

------

Sorry for the long time for an update, I was being distracted by multiple things, like Limbus Company.

I was also researching races for this which took some time and at the end I just gave up and decided that I wouldn't name races unless they are important or something. I hope that the training made sense as well.

Again sorry for taking such a long time for an update even when I said that I would release this earlier. I hope you enjoyed.
