Chapter 15 - The Sanitary Practioner's Son

As the carriage moved, Adem couldn't help but ask worriedly, "Are you confident they can heal her?"

Casper smiles, "It's just pneumonia, what's the big deal. In my opinion, it's pretty easy to cure," he reassured him.

Adem didn't pursue the topic further, and the carriage fell silent.

But what Casper didn't know was that he was inherently biased. Coming from the modern world, such things like pneumonia were quite easy to cure with antibiotics.

In mild cases, it would barely take a few days whereas moderate cases would take one or two weeks.

Hence, Casper didn't think much of it.

But in this world — where they were still in the industrial era, pneumonia was a fatal disease.

Everything depended on the doctor Casper knew.

After some minutes of traveling, Casper finally reached Riverbay Avenue.

The disparity between well off districts like Cherwood and East Boroughs were truly astounding. The more one traveled into Cherwood, one would think they were transported in a different era.

Casper, carrying Sera and Adem, got off the carriage. After paying a handsome sum of eight pence to the coachman, Casper wandered through the streets.

Subsequently, he found himself lost. Yep, he did not know where the doll-addict lived. The novel glossed over that detail sadly.

But after asking a passerby about a Dr. White that specialised in blood letting treatments, Casper quickly found out his location — house number 48.

Roaming the streets for a while, they quickly landed upon 48 Riverbay Avenue.

Casper quickly knocked on the door of House number 48 and a young man — no, a young vampire answered the door.

"Who are you looking for?" A youthful red eyed man asked.

"We're here to see Dr. White. Is he in?" Casper inquired urgently.

"No, I'm his son, Emlyn White." The Sanguine and the future Mr. Moon of the Tarot Club answered.

Um — welp, this is awkward. Casper thought, shifting his body as the silence between them grew deeper.

Emyln hesitated for a moment before adding, "I've learned under my dad, although I'm not at the same level as he is. But as long as it isn't anything serious, I'm sure I can cure her."

Casper quickly carried Sera to a bed in the clinic.

While examining her, Emyln started chatting casually. "You don't seem to be from around here."

Casper rubbed the back of his neck and chuckled awkwardly, "People keep saying that. I don't really know why."

"Your red eyes," Emyln said with a pause, "they're quite odd."

Casper chuckled, "Well, in that case you are odd too, Mr. White."

"Pah! My eyes are my pride! I'm a noble San —"

Emlyn froze mid-sentence, his crimson eyes widening slightly. The sharpness in his tone vanished, replaced by a stiff cough. "—San…itary practitioner's son. Yes." He nodded rapidly.

Casper blinked, Real smooth bro.

"Sanitary practitioner's son?" he repeated, the corner of his mouth twitching.

"Yes," Emlyn replied quickly, waving his hands dismissively. "Our family has always been concerned with… cleanliness. Hygiene, and, uh… refinement. Very noble pursuits! You wouldn't understand."

"Right," Casper said, squinting his eyes amusingly.

Emyln quickly diagnosed the girl, "It seems like a bad case of pneumonia… no worries I read about a potion that would cure this a few days ago."

"That's great," Adem shouted excitedly.

"The potion costs 13 pounds," Emyln quickly explained, "One of the ingredients is very expensive."

Casper turned towards Adem and glared at him — the boy meekly turned his head away and started whistling, ignoring his glare completely.

This is definitely coming out of his paycheck, I ain't gonna raise some freeloaders. He should know money doesn't grow on trees.

Sighing, Casper handed the young Sanguine 13 pounds.

Today was not his day.

He had already blown his entire paycheck in a single day, kids were truly expensive to raise.

Emyln quickly began his "bloodletting" treatment, making a shallow cut on her arm.

As he collected the blood in a small vial, he said, "Her body is filled with fluid and blood, for the potion to take effect. I need to drain them first."

As he spoke, Casper was puzzled, shouldn't bodies be filled with blood? What nonsense was he spewing?

After collecting some amount of blood, Emlyn went inside a laboratory to mix the potion and had Sera drink it in a gulp.

Her condition seemed to improve almost immediately as her previously flushed cheeks and pale skin began regaining a healthy color.

"There, she'll get better in a few hours. I recommend giving her some nutritious food and plenty of rest and she'll be her old self." Emlyn advised.

"Really?" Adem asked, his voice trembling between disbelief and hope.

Emlyn nodded as he and Casper engaged in a peculiar conversation about some…. special dolls.

After earnestly thanking him, Casper decided to leave.

But just before he closed, he suddenly had a thought.

His eyes glinted mischievously and his lips curled up into a small smile, "I'll see you later, Mr. Moon."
