Chapter 36 - Trouble [3]

The mohawk man stood back a wicked ceremonial dagger resting flat against his thighs as he raised a hand.

"Kill that bitch already!"

He commanded, gesturing to the horde.

A man with dull brown eyes and wild, unkempt hair was the first to break formation, rushing forward with a maddened grin.

"Haaaa!"

He screamed, his boots kicking up dust.

Lennie didn't flinch.

She stood perfectly still in her low, defensive stance.

Her glowing crimson eye tracking his every movement.

The moment the pirate closed the distance, he threw a heavy, desperate jab straight at her jaw.

But an amateur attack of that caliber wasn't anywhere near her level.

With a fluid, effortless grace, she sidestepped the incoming fist, letting it graze the empty air.

Dropping her center of gravity even lower, she tightened her clenched fist.

Channeling a terrifying amount of torque through her hips.

-Thud!

She drove her fist straight upward into the man's collarbone with a sickening crunch.

The sheer, kinetic force of the impact shattered the bone instantly.

-Splat!

Causing a spray of dark blood to spurt from his mouth.

As his entire body was launched violently backward through the air.

Seeing their comrade get pulverized in a one blow, the remaining men hesitated for a second before rushing in simultaneously.

Desperate to overwhelm her through sheer numbers.

"She can't take out all of you at once! Keep going! Go!"

The mohawk man barked from the sidelines.

Deep down, he knew she probably could wipe the floor with them.

But the mohawk man didn't care about the lives of his allies at all.

To him, the mercenaries under his command were nothing more than expendable livestock disposable tools to be consumed for a goal.

Just like he was to the pirate boss.

A slender mercenary rushed her from the flank.

Thrusting a jagged alchemical blade toward her ribs.

Lennie retorted instantly with a blindingly fast spin kick.

The top of her heel connecting flush with the man's jaw.

-Bam!

Sending him flying into a stack of wooden barrels.

Using the rapid momentum of the spin, she stepped heavily onto a bald pirate's shoulder before he could even raise his axe.

She used his body as a springboard, propelling herself high into the smoky sky, completely out of their reach.

Hovering at the peak of her arc under the crimson sunset.

Lennie pulled her arm back, clenching her fist so tightly the fabric of her sleeve strained against her muscle.

Then, gravity caught her, and she came hurtling back down toward the center of the plaza with the velocity of a meteor.

The pirates below frantically turned their heads upward to look at the descending shadow.

But by then, it was already far too late.

-Boom!

She struck the cobblestone surface with a cataclysmic, explosive force.

The ground violently buckled and cracked open in a spiderweb radius beneath her knuckles.

A massive, concussive shockwave of dust and shattered stone erupted outward.

Sending the surrounding circle of armed men hurtling away through the air like autumn leaves in a hurricane.

Standing just at the edge of the blast radius.

The mohawk man stood his ground.

Crossing his arms firmly in front of his face to shield himself from the flying debris and biting wind.

*She's a monster!*

He thought, his teeth grinding in a sudden wave of cold sweat as the dust began to settle around Lennie's standing silhouette.

-Tak!

-Tak!

-Tak!

She stepped out of the smoke with slow and steady steps of her heels.

As the thick dust and purple alchemical smoke finally began to clear,.

Her pinkish-crimson eye glowed a like burning ember in the twilight.

Her hands still clenched in bone-crushing manner.

Dripping with the grit of the shattered street.

All the men who had charged her just moments before were now scattered carelessly across the rubble.

Dead or alive, no one could tell—their bodies lay completely still amidst the broken cobblestones.

"This is what you asked for, right?"

She asked, her voice dangerously calm.

The mohawk man swallowed nervously.

His boots dragging backward against the stone as he took a frantic step away from her.

This wasn't the outcome he had anticipated at all.

He had genuinely thought she would at least struggle against a small army.

Buying enough time for the boss to arrive.

"Damn it...!"

He snarled, trying to mask his sudden terror with bravado.

"Do you think I'm scared of you, bitch?"

It was a desperate, hollow shout his last resort to keep her at bay for even just a second.

But she just kept coming closer, her footsteps heavy and deliberate.

"I told you to let me go and no one would get hurt."

-Tak!

She murmured, her glowing eyes locking onto his throat.

"But you didn't listen, did you?"

-Tak!

She stepped closer and closer, completely cornering him against the rubble.

Just as she pulled her arm back to land a final, devastating blow…

Clap-! Clap-! Clap-!

The slow, heavy sound of applause suddenly lingered in the air.

"Well done. I've gotta say, you really outdid yourself."

A deep, booming voice called out from the edge of the square.

"I didn't know there were such remarkably strong women hiding out in this port town. So, you're the one everyone's making a damn fuss about, huh? Well, looking at this mess, I sure as hell don't blame them."

Lennie froze, but she didn't turn her head to look at the figure approaching from her blind spot.

"Boss!"

The mohawk man shouted, his face instantly lighting up with immense relief.

Emerging from the shadows of a collapsing alleyway.

The boss carried an aura of absolute authority and brutal violence.

He looked to Hebert in his late twenties.

He had an athletic build, with glowing blue menacing eyes with a sharp and defined face that would have women screaming in submission.

He a white shirt with an unbuttoned collar complete with a blood-red coat and a red tricone.

He stopped just a few paces away from the edge of the crater, crossing arms over his chest.

"So, you're their mother, huh? The big bitch in charge!"

Lennie said, still grasping the Mohawkman's collar.

"Look, the mouth on this one..."

The man muttered, his eyes narrowing slightly as he kept his gaze fixed straight ahead.

"I certainly didn't expect such garbage to come out of a captain's mouth."

The brief distraction was exactly what the mohawk man needed.

Seizing the another second he violently lunged backward.

Scrambling over the ruined town square.

The pirate boss didn't even look at his fleeing subordinate.

His silky grey hair silhouette shifted as he stepped closer.

"So, aren't you going to turn around and let me see that pretty face of yours?"

He spoke, his deep voice dripping with casual amusement.

"What's it to you?"

Lennie said bluntly, her body remaining tightly coiled.

Ready to strike at nay moment.
